The band: Bobby Rosengarden, of course; Jimmy Morrealle, trumpet; Bill Watrous, trombone; George Duvivier, bass; Bernie Leighton, piano; Tommy Kay, banjo
You know the one thing I don't get- Woody seems so relaxed; I mean he genuinely seemed to enjoy being in front of an audience, and he's such a great guest. I wonder why he just gave up this part of his life. The standup, the interviews, basically the tv appearances. I know the stock answer...he "outgrew" it, wanted to be taken more seriously as a filmaker, etc. It's just a shame he couldn't mix the two. The last time I saw him on tv doing jokes was at the Oscars about 6 years ago; He killed!
Hi I love watching this video of Woody Allen on the Dick Cavette show. It would be great to have a cover of Bobby Rosengarden's drumming in the video! Thanks John
Bernie Leighton Piano, George Duvivier bass, Bill Watrous trombone, Al Caiola Banjo. Not sure of the trumpet player. All great musicians...around Woody.
Well, we were all set to make a new and revamped version of Fry and Laurie. I, though, was going to replace Laurie, and the programme was jokingly going to be named Fry and Fry (My surname is also Fry). We filmed the first episode for the pilot, and then the bastard had me replaced for Hugh Laurie.
That joke went out to the folks who were in "Band" - double-entendre intended. You see, you actually use clarinet cork grease "Kork-eez" on the corked-end clarinet pieces to make them insert easily into one another. Are you getting the hint yet? You can't be that 'Green'!?
Yeah, it's a shame, but it's just the Woodman being the Woodman...lol. We'll have to settle for the movies and occasional writings. Have you seen Vicky Christine Barcelona yet? I was going to see it later today...
Hahah. What you going to do about it keyboard warrior? Haha. Noticed you say 'Get a Life' alot, haha, me thinks the lady doth protest too much! You obviously don't have one if you know not of Stephen Fry's greatness.
Listening to Woody Allen play jazz brightens up my day. I love how he plays the clarinet with such passion and a sense of humor.
Notice that he is playing an old-style Albert-system clarinet to play old style music. The same kind that klezmers and Greek musicians use.
Woody Allen never ceases to surprise me (and amuse me) with his magnificent, creative and surprising productions of all types =)
Thanks for the post. Great enjoyment.
One of my favorite woody clips

Problem was his, er, indiscretions - which would ALWAYS come up - to THIS day in 2018!
Damn, he was so funny by then. Also I note a lot of jokes that he later used in his movies.
That's George Duvivier on bass. He was a true master.

I actually bought a used Clarinet for $50 bought a box of reeds just so I could learn to play the tune he plays at the beginning. Greatest thing ever!
I wish the boom guys would get the goddamn mics out of picture every time they come back from commercial. I love seeing this.
Well, now I'm in an amazing mood.

Great Stuff!
Very nice. He really plays the clarinet well.
Yeah! It sounds like he's having a lot of fun!

Bill Watrous on trombone!
Maybe, somewhere, in the BBC archives. I haven't seen it since the editing suite.
Good shit.
Woody = Genio
I have seen his movie Manhattan.
I met him once at the Music Center Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. We rode up together in an elevator, he was like a scared mouse.
the Art of liking no one else but Woody
and bobby crumb

Did you notice Woody puts all 'kinds of jizz' on it?
bellissimo...
he was affirming _his_ Freudian totality
Yeah, it's a shame, but it's just the Woodman being the Woodman...lol. We'll have to settle for the movies and occasional writings. Have you seen Vicky Christine Barcelona yet? I was going to see it later today...
What is the name of the piece they are playing in the end?
Orkhan Bayramov -- Till We Meet Again [Smile a while
....]
he should be playing the harmonica
@munkybrain Jascha Heifetz played the violin.
No one will know the difference
I wonder what type of clarinet that is. It's clearly not Boehem or Oehler clarinet.
It's definitely an old Albert which is what the oehler is based on.
Sono 4 fratelli: pedro, woody, steve e akira

Where did he Affirm his Freudian Totality?
I thinks its "Wining boy blues"
Probably by Jelly Roll Morton
With the band, it's "'Til We Meet Again" by Richard Whiting.
I see what you mean now. Sorry.

He's a bit too excited.
he gets around the clarinet ok

what piece is he playing?
Great video, dumb title.
I'm thinking of Benny Goodman.
Am I the only one who thinks he looks a little like squidward?
There are many angry people posting on here. What's that matter with you people?! Relax!

Your question is so embarrassing, you should delete it.

While he is a good actor and a great filmmaker, Woody Allen is not a great clarinet player. He plays fairly well, but with poor tone.
