  • 150w Solar Panel Installation in our Elddis Avante 454 but with a twist. SInce we didn't have any external 12v power to the nearside of our caravan we make use of the Solar connections for additional use of 12v appliances.

Hi there. Great little insight of the sola Panel. It's great when you have it how you want it I remember when I did my sola Panel insulation (video on channel )😀 it's a game changer. Thanks for sharing 👍 Cheers Paul and Sarah caravan life

Thanks for your comment. Did a bit of research as to what was best for us and how we could make it work. All theories mind you as we don't know in the real world how it will work out. Time will tell. Think its a bit different using the 10amp socket to both provide power from the solar and when on hookup have another usable socket outside.

Instead of a cigarette lighter socket, we've installed a 12S socket under the van by the battery box. This is waterproof enough for it's location and is multi function in/out power direct (fused) from the battery. It's proved very useful over the years and can even keep the car battery topped up on site if needed.

Thanks for the video. We are looking into getting a similar set up when our new Caravan arrives. Very helpful.

It's worked really well for us. In March we had a 4 day off grid trip and it kept the 100amp AGM battery topped up. End of April we are off on a 5 day off grid trip. With improving weather we are hoping we can still carry on using all the 12v things as normal including 4 to 5 hours of evening TV. We don't have an inverter so no main voltage at all. 👍👍

A good multi-serving option at a really sensible cost that clearly works for your requirements… 👍🏻
Our solar panel was fitted on the roof from new, but I have wired the ‘van to supplement input with a portable panel as & when needed… 😉

Thanks for the comment. It's a minefield of a subject so getting something that suits isn't easy. Hopefully we have but time will tell ⏳

Venomator - I want to do the same and would like to know how and what you did? I have an MPPT 30 A controller which says it wants series panels, one 165W on the roof and I plan on buying a 150 W portable. Thanks.

@@MarkSDCA Hi Mark - I used MC4 ‘Y’ connectors to link the two panels - this could be done in series or parallel.
However, the Watts is not the be all and end all of linking more than one panel, either in series or parallel. You need to know the Volts & Amp ratings and these should be pretty much identical.
There is plenty of information on line but, if you are not sure, it is always best to consult with a qualified professional before linking any panels together.
I am not qualified to suggest how you should tackle your installation, so cannot advise anything other than for my own use… 😉
