(Best Horror Film Scenes) The Hitcher: Torn Apart

- One of the most hair raising, cringing scenes in horror film. When you see Rutger Hauer's face, you know he means business. This is one of those scenes when you knew something bad was gonna happen.
I do not the rights to this movie
First you see all the cops there and you have a sense of relief that maybe they finally caught this guy or they're soon going to catch him, and everything's gonna be OK. Then you see Nash tied up between the trucks, and that sense of relief turns to horror! I really really liked Nash though, so I felt very sad when the hitcher killed her. I mean besides the fact that she was really cute and had a decent personality, she was just trying to help and do the right thing, but unfortunately paid with her life.
I felt really bad when she died. Her death definitely made this movie more chaotic and unpredictable though. Not your typical movie and that's why I love it!
yeah. me too! @@bennybenjben9594
I saw this as a kid and i was scared as shit. But then I forgot about it
@@khadar3467the Hitcher (original from 1986) the whole things on YT
Same for me. I always remembered this drawn and quartered scene but I swear it was a mel gibson movie.lol
I remember watching this movie when I was a teenager back in the late 80s. Watched it many times back then. A wild movie for sure. One of the best I ever saw .. The Hitcher gave him hints throughout the whole time , only if the boy had listened, the hitcher would've been dead early on, but the boy finally got the courage to finally take him out
I HAVE ALMOST 40 YEARS THIS IS MY FAV MOVIE OF ALL TIME. BEST THING BOUT 80'S ACTION HORRORS
THEY DONT HAVE TOO MUCH DIALOG. ONLY FEW WORDS BUT TENSION IS LEVEL MILLION. ACTION AND FEAR AND REAL THINKING BOUT SCENES IF U EVER ENCOUNTER OR SURVIVE IN YOUR LIFE SUCH A THING...PLOT IS TO ME 1 OF BEST EVER.
Did nobody thought. "Hey let's untie her whilst he's distracted?"
Thought the same thing!!
Cops are dumb in horror movies. That's a rule.
Or get one of the cops if they ad tools under the diesel tank let all the fuel out
He probably had full rearview sight
Or if Jim had knowledge of a truck, he could've yanked the parking brake real quickly
Incredible cinematography. Especially when he's walking between the two trucks. Loved this movie since my dad introduced it to me when I was 16.
The cinematographer John Seale also did Rain Man, Cold Mountain, and Mad Max Fury Road
I was thinking that exact same thing!!!!!!
I watched this movie when I was a kid, over 30 years ago. Never forgot this scene.
Same 😭 I’ve always thought of this scene and forever been scared of trucks. I’ve been trying to find the name for months. And I finnaly just found it
@@marisacarter8758and you can watch the full thing on here
Me too. This was the only scene I remembered didn't even know the name of the movie
@@aliakdogan9426rutger was electrifying in this movie
@@brando7266He's always made a great villain but he can pull off hero equally well.
I feel the whole time John was trying to break Jim and try to bring him down to his psychopathic level. I can see why Christopher Nolan drew inspiration for Heath Ledger's Joker from John Ryder.
That makes sense. When i saw this movie it reminded me of Dark Knight. I definitely see the parallel between Joker and John Ryder. Both are ok with dying especially if it's the specific person they want to be killed by. Christopher Nolan picked a great movie to draw inspiration from.
Rutger Hauer ( John Ryder)was in Batman Begins
It never happened. It wasn't filmed, nor was it even scripted. It's one of those scenes that is so uniquely horrific, that people remember it as being worse than it was depicted on film. The mind fills in the rest.
That's what makes it so brilliant! :D
The way they do the track shot here is very good compared to how I see it in recent films. There's a sense of more weight in the camera movement, like it appreciates the scene more than what you'd get from faster, more advanced cameras.
Was trying to remember what this film was for ages. Thanks for uploading
We're lucky they didn't show the gore in this one. Lots of other horror films tend to get pretty cheesy even though they follow through on effects, but the way the screen play runs here it would have been truly nightmare-ish.
“Cheesy” is a stupid overused word.
I think if this was a horror/ slasher movie they would probably have shown her literally being ripped apart. But it was really more of a thriller/ action movie, and therefore there was no need to be very graphic and bloody. The idea was simply for the viewer to clearly understand what was happening and it was still pretty horrible. I think the police station scene (when Jim escapes) was the only truly bloody scene in the whole movie.
@@derekblaustein6013 It established that John was a violent psychopath and quite intelligent and strong.
@@demonofelru3214 True. I agree
@@derekblaustein6013 Nope there's the part after he kills the family in that car and you see the blood running out of the door.
She was bound with rope. Rope! The police could have cut it while the two of them were talking and distracted!
Wrong. Chain
@@jonnyapplesead737 Could've cut the chain as well.
Exactly! It's actually hilarious when you think about the improbability of the situation.
Why not shoot at the chain instead
@@heatherfeather9951 The second you go in past his mirror he would have ripped her apart.
I remember this scene from when I was little and it scared the crap out of me. I remember the sexes being switches though and the death being far more graphic. I've been wondering what the film was for years.
Never mind, I was thinking of the 2007 version. Just found it.
Same i been looking for it and I was mad that the cops did it stop it
DaRhi_Yis YES THATS WHY IM HERE NOW- it was a guy tho but it suddenly popped into my head while doing hw lmao
That's the one I've been looking for
@@darhi_yis9175 I’m glad you said that because I also remembered it being a guy. It’s the only scene I remember after seeing it as a kid
i also saw this as a kid... and just like others who commented, it scared the shit out of me. I mean, I was scared of Freddy Kruger but this scene... And I remember it never felt like an on screen death when she was ripped in half. was expecting the hero to somehow save the day and then, what the f**k???
Game of Thrones, anyone???? Lol.
Besides the obvious everyone mentioned about untying her while she’s distracted, since his foot was on the clutch, that means he could have knocked the shifter into neutral and then popped him.
not sure whats the worst death, getting ripped in half or getting crushed like strahm in the saw movie
This unlocked a core memory
One of the most brutal scenes from horror/thriller movies of the 80's in my opinion. Rutger Hauer was such a badass actor.
I wondered if there was any chance for Nash to survive this? One police officer could have sneaked under Nash out of sight in cover of her body and cut her feet lose. But of course that would have ruined the character of Ryder.
I really wanted to see the actual gory part. But they blocked it
@@metallicaguy123 Thats CZcams
@@metallicaguy123 it was never filmed
Shooting him and very quickly pulling up the handbrake to prevent whatever he was doing with his feet. Still might have been too late
@@metallicaguy123 There isn't one. In the god-awful remake they show it in full detail and it isn't even half as effective.
Shoot at the back of the yellow square valve on the dash. If you exhaust the air the tractor won't move. Maybe!
Yeah maybe isn't good enough
You can just have them remove the chains while he distracted
Word is that this scene inspired Tommy Wiseau to do film.
Ben, I wasn't expecting to lol during this scene, then I read your comment.
This scene always fills me with guilt like if I was Jim that went through this ordeal. It leaves you with a feeling of what if I did things differently or it's my fault I couldn't save her in time. It gives you an idea of helplessness there's probably nothing Jim could've really have done, but you still feel like there was a slim chance she could've been saved. Survivors guilt is really a shitty feeling to go through.
A literally unimprovable film. Gut wrenching the whole way. Rutger Hauer offered a master class lesson in playing an abject psycho.
Cult Classic! Period. Right along the likes of “Band of the Hand” etc…….none of which the “pundits” approved. Let the people decide, period. All too often the “pundits” have special interests in promoting big budget producers…….these pundits are incentivized to get over these smaller low budget studios that are bringing out gems like this film. Let the people decide. We don’t need no preconceived predisposed biases about movies by pundit critics that are bought
Considering how she was hold up there, she would had survived.
Role Reversal
The Hitcher 1986: Female killed off screen cut *use your imagination*
The Hitcher 2007: Male killed onscreen in horribly brutal fashion
The 2007 remake was pure stinky shit. This is the original, the one, the best. Mr Hauer is so frightening as John Ryder, a terrifying, mad insane yet sexy psycho. A horrible combo. Sean Bean failed.
Siskel and Ebert loved this scene.
I don't know what Siskel and Ebert were going on about they said you saw the death of the girl been torn apart on screen.
Since everybody is so insistent on trying to ruin this scene for people, can we just assume that Ryder had the sense to tell when they approached the ropes from the rearview mirrors? Also I myself have wondered if the police can shoot the ropes off but there is strong chances that they would need more than just a single shot which would alarm Ryder.
i think Nash was bound with chains because i could hear a faint rattle that sounds like if one were to shake a chain and makes a rattling noise
@@DiddyKongsLeftFoot I definitely want to believe she is bound with chains
@@Joey7Z7Horror i’m only just correcting you, its chain, rope would probably break
@@DiddyKongsLeftFoot no no I’m saying that I agree and I’d want to believe they’re chains. Saying “I’d want to believe” doesn’t mean I don’t. Just that I want that to be the case as well
@@Joey7Z7Horrorok than
In Both versions of this movie, just cut the ropes? or shoot them?
why does Motels shock me though.. Lol.. Hitchcock's Psycho had Bates Motel and this film has John Ryder's Motel(!!) Seriously after watching this film, you will never think in your mind of boarding a hitcher..
They didn't show her being ripped apart. But when Siskel and Ebert reviewed the film, they said it was shown. Was that scene removed then?
@Daniel Dan O Olofsson wish i could find that scene
Jesus..I never knew they actually fuckin showed it...even once...dayummmm
DesertRose122 They didn’t. The writer, director, DP and Rutger Hauer himself attested that it wasn’t even shot.
@@AirwolfArchive Same with the "Scarface" and "Psycho" shower scenes as well. People will swear up and down they saw it happen even when its only implied. Good cinema just exploits the minds capacity to fill in the blanks.
Lex Everest You got it. Just that. It’s not like “RoboCop”, where a patrol officer gets his hand and arm blown off, ending with the back of his head going the same way. A great scene and justified in that story (due to the character’s lack of screentime/development), yet somehow more memorable and ‘celebrated’ than those that *aren’t* seen.
Came here after seeing a old Siskel & Ebert review. They Weren’t fans
they didnt shoot the knot in her legs, and shoot the killer in the truck.
Just shoot him and put your foot on the break.
Also why didn’t the cops cut her free while the kid was in the car? -_-
And how would Halsey do that when he's in the other seat? Even if he shoots him, he won't have time to put his foot on the break, she would have been ripped apart anyway. Also, the cops couldn't risk doing that because the killer might see the untieing through his rearview mirror on his side of the truck.
There was no "break," but if something is broken, then please repair it.
I don't see many of those cabover semi trucks out on the roads anymore like I used to back in those days.
+Springtrap fnaf in the 2007 remake of this movie in the semi truck pull & rip scene the man got torn in half instead of the lady.
Bloody new age feminazis...
Couldn’t they pin the truck back with a few cops cars?…..
Maybe get Arnold to come in and chop the ropes?
The police were so stupid. While he was in there with Ryder they could have untied Nash
Ikr, same with the 2007 one with Sean Bean while grace was in the truck with ryder the cops could have unchained jim arms and legs he would've survive in the film.
He could see them in the rearview mirrors and if they shot him then the truck could go forward with his foot on the pedal.
The winner by split decision.
RIP sexy Rutger Hauer. Best actor the world had. Very underrated in Hollywood.
slam the parking brake it should stall the engine ?
yup.... if only he was a trucker....
Well pull it out.. lol that would set the brakes.. hopefully stopping the truck somewhat.... but probably not with him revving it like that... hope they shot his ass after
You mean pop the parking brake. But that still would've probably caused extensive damage because the truck would've started bouncing around violently.
Such beautiful fear.
WTF? Jennifer got cut in half in this movie while her father, Vic Morrow, got decapitated for real in a freakish helicopter accident back in 1982. Was this some kind of ghoulish acknowledgement? 😳
She was estranged from her father at the time of his death, then made a fortune in a settlement with Warner Brothers after his death. She probably didn't think twice about filming this scene.
Hollywood and its weird thrills.
She actually got ripped in half
I cant tell, would a sniper be able to shoot the ropes to set her free?
I remember watching this as a kid unlike other people I wasn’t scared I just thought it was very weird I’m not a serial killer
I don't know what Siskel and Ebert were going on about they said you saw the death of the girl been torn apart on screen.
did she make it?
nope
They could've distracted the driver, chocked the passengers side back wheel. So the truck tracker stays in place. Which I've seen countless times truckdrivers not being able to move their truck. Because they forgot to un-chock a wheel.
Then, they'd have time to shoot the driver, and save the woman.
But that wouldn't make a good horror movie scene.
I still get scared when I hear a semi truck revving its engine. One of the most memorable scenes ever.
What did she say as she saw Jim?
If someone just had a samurai sword them ropes would be over and done with
Hahaha, those cops would have all lost their jobs in real life. Everyone knows cops are trained to always have handcuffs, their badge, a samurai sword at all times, and now they carry firearms as a long-distance sword attack. 💁🏼♂️
C. Thomas is the most over dramatic actor ever.
Yeah but he was great as Ponyboy.
@@stacydetwiler1475 not really
Talk about a stretch for Jennifer Jason Leigh.
She only accepted the role because she was broke...
4:48
Cut rope with knife ??
she was bound with chain
This is such a "movie" scene, irl the psycho would of been shot the moment he showed the gun to the kid, and probably cops would shoot him earlier anyways. Just stupid and unrealistic af in every way. But thats how movies were back then, complete fantasy.
@humankinda exactly lol these movies are complete nonsense
@@justanotherguyful just like todays movies then but todays really are shitty.
No wonder Ebert gave this zero stars
Ebert was a twat.
@@desertrose1226 Yeah he was but he was still way better than today's critics.
It would be a great scene IF they had shown anything. Hitcher is way to tame to really be fun.
Jobe Jacobs don’t be a 🐈
Jobe Jacobs true, but I find it kind of like a trill to see it in movies, because it’s not real but feels real
@@adriantrejo6696 In this movie its not meant to be fun or for a thrill though. It's supposed to give fear and quite a few times, showing the gore takes away the fear.
By not showing it it forced the audience to imagine what happened. And your imagination can be way worse than showing it.
I don't understand why he had to tie a rope around her mouth, I mean it's not like he was expecting to conceal her screams of pain.
@the Chevy guy ouch!! 😱
Finally found this movie ,tjamks to reddit posts.
Been loling for it for a while . Saw it as a kid and this scene scared me ...the only scene i remeber in the movie
Fing do something!
Now that I watch this as an adult I see how sexy and underrated Rutger was:)))
