Darth Vader storms the Beaches of Scarif [ANALYSIS]

  • In a deleted scene from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Darth Vader goes down to the beaches of scarif and leads the Empire in a full ground assault against the rebels...
Rogue One is a movie about war and the threat of the Empire is always looming over. Its a bit of a darker and more serious Star Wars movie, and that’s something I really like about it. One of the most violent and dark scenes of the movie, is the final Vader in the hallway sequence. It’s an absolutely amazing scene and really shows how terrifying Darth Vader is. This is Darth Vader like we never saw him before. Cold, ruthless. A true dark lord of the Sith. But as you may or may not know, during the production of Rogue One, the film went through a few plot changes and reshoots. You might remember that many of the shots you saw in the trailers just did not appear in the film. Before these changes, Gary Whitta planned other ideas for how to include Darth Vader in the final Battle. In his original idea, Darth Vader actually went down and fought on the beaches of Scarif.

Vader’s inclusion at the end was perfect. While I’d have loved to have seen more of him in action, sometimes less is more. The hallway scene was the perfect amount of Vader to keep this picture focused on the rebels and still establish Vader’s horrific dominance.

I first saw "Star Wars" (no 'episode IV, no A New Hope, that happened in 1983) on May 28th, 1977 (yep, OK BOOMER Old Fan). "Rogue One" was the movie I waited nearly 40 years to see and I am SO damn glad I never knew it was coming and how long that wait was going to be. In all those passing years, I never once cried at a Star Wars film. This one did it. I cried when a droid said "Goodbye" and locked a vault door, and it WAS the first time I was actually terrified to see Vader go on a rampage. It's about so many things, so many battles we have fought, it was Normandy, and Guadalcanal and it was pitched to the perfect target audience, the people who were there when it all began -- to see the story of 'how it all began.'

Jyn and Cassian limp together, leaving the black, industrial building. Their feet shuffle across the sand, their boots scuffed. There’s blood dripping down on Cassian’s shoulder. As the walk, jyn looks at Cassian. She begins to lean her head on him. Suddenly, Cassian is flung away by a mysterious force. He hits a blast door, and falls to the floor, crumpled and not moving. Jyn cries out his name, but is flung away herself. She looks up, and sees what she believes to be a droid, clad in black. What appear to be tusks emit from his helmet. His cape is stained red.... with blood, Jyn realizes. Then, Vader asks her, in an almost human voice: “Where are the plans?” Jyn looks over to Cassian, still not moving. She then looks up to Vader, and says “They’re long gone. Halfway across the galaxy.” Vader looks to a shuttle landing next to them. He looks to her. Jyn suddenly feels her throat being strangled. She tries to gasp for air, but she cannot. She looked around to see what was choking her, but there was nothing around. Nothing... except Vader. She looks at his hand, clenched. She stares at his face, hidden behind this emotionless mask. She almost blacks out when a blaster bolt hits Vader in the shoulder. Vader turns around and sees Cassian with a blaster pointed at him. Vader pulls the blaster out of Cassian’s hands. Without a single word, he pulls Cassian to him, grabs him by the neck, and snaps it, with a single hand. Jyn has a look of horror dawning on her face. Cassian’s lifeless body falls to the ground. Vader stared down at it, then Jyn. Jyn crawls to Cassian, tears in her eyes. Vader is about to do the same to her, when a Death trooper exits the shuttle and calls to Vader “Sir, there’s a heavily damaged Rebel cruiser still in the system. Grand Moff Tarkin believes the plans are onboard.” Vader doesn’t even look at him. “Tell Tarkin that I will not fail.” He leaves Jyn and the corpse of Cassian Andor on the sand, an enters his shuttle

Lol, or the part with a deleted scene. This wasn't a deleted scene, for that to be true the scene would have needed to be filmed and then not included. This was just a rewrite.

I would of loved to see vader deflecting fire from the rebels and using the force choking the rebels walking through the water but I think what we got was amazing. I think if we got vader action like what I said, it could of taking out the sense of terror a little bit

Your comment about that final scene making a good movie great really resonated. That was the most exciting moment in a theater I've had in at least 10 years. The ground assault scene would have been epic. But it was a great decision to just make the ending all about Vader.

I can’t think of a scene in a film that got me more excited than that hallway scene with Vader at the end of Rogue One. When I heard his breathing, then saw the lightsaber ignite….I damn near jumped out of my seat. Seeing Vader in action like that…we’d never seen that before, and it’s exactly what I wanted to see out of him. All of a sudden I was 12 years old again, screaming in my seat with excitement. One of my favorite moments in the entire Saga. ❤️

This one scene is better than some of the more recent SW films hands down. We need to see a standalone film at once and for all solidifies him as the most feared being in the SW universe while exploring his tortured soul. I think it would add to the richness of what was to come with Luke and his final moments of redemption in ROTJ
