They needed every conceivable priority and advantage to try and hold the Locust off long enough to breed the next generation to take their place when they were predicted to inevitably be eradicated in the course of the war. Average human wouldn't have a hope in hell of fighting an average Locust one to one, it's more accurate to call their skin hide and it's covering pure muscle. Though, of course, how much of that was just an excuse after the fact to justify giant fucking bricks of guys running about is up to you lol, but at least they came up with a reason that fits nicely into the setting's remarkably fleshed-out brutality.
The original gears trilogy is a god tier game! You're missing a lot of story and lore just watching cut scenes. You miss out on a lot more just playing the game (there are comics and books with so much more).
Paul Setterquist very much, 4 and 5 were not needed. It was a perfect ending in Gears 3. They finished off the war, Marcus could finally live a life with Anya, Dom was killed off (RIP 😞), like, why did Microsoft have to have another game after that? Judgement was a good idea, but executed horribly. Prequels would be cool.

Baird is honestly my favorite character. You don't really see a lot more of the character development and personality just by only watching the cut scenes because a lot of Dom's (the other guy always with Marcus) are in game and in game you can really feel the bromance of these two characters all through out this and in gears 2 and 3. Gears of war has always been one of my favorite series mostly because of the bromance you feel from these characters.
Parts of the gameplay is key. Take for instance Cole Train. You learn he played Thrash Ball before the war. You get much more of their personality. Baird looks a lot better in gameplay, because he's smart he figures out solutions mid combat. He has a lot of snark but he does what's needed intelligently. Even the weapons are important to the future story like how they killed the first Berserker, they used the Hammer of the Dawn. Basically a satellite laser that can destroy a city powered by imulsion. You also learn about General Ram, the Nemesis guy. As well as learn why they were afraid of the dark, even many story points seems out of place without playing the game in the dark. Basically you will die if you go in the dark, no question.
Honestly, I’ve enjoyed every gears of war game so far. The main cast of 4 and 5 may not be GREAT, but I thought the games themselves were pretty good. Looking forward to gears tactics ngl.
I think the campaigns are pretty good, yeah sequels cant success like a original story, but they are pretty good too and expand the lore and universe, and they are in game pass so i have no complain. I’ll try and explain the main parts of Gears of Wars history to my knowledge just so you’re caught up with everything that’s happened before the events of Gears 1: (Without revealing any spoilers) Sera is the name of the planet they are on. The planet is home to a natural fuel source called Imulsion, and eventually a war broke out between the COG and the UIR forces to cease control over it. This war went on for many many years until eventually, a scientist by the name of ‘Adam Fenix’ created a weapon called ‘The Hammer of Dawn’, which is essentially a number of different orbital satellites positioned around the atmosphere of the planet, that fire down onto the surface and incinerate anything and everything in its way. This weapon eventually forced the UIR to surrender to the COG, and finally ended the war. The locust are a sub terrain species that have lived underneath the planet for years in secret building a civilisation/army (I won’t spoil how they came to be there). Emergence day or E day, is essentially the day in which the locust revealed themselves by finally emerging from the planets surface to eradicate the human race and take control of the entire planet for themselves. For the record, Emergence day happened only a few short weeks after the war between the COG and the UIR had finally ended and took everyone completely by surprise. The locust ended up killing millions of people by nightfall on Emergence day, and as a result, the COG became desperate and had no other choice but to use the Hammer of Dawn to incinerate most of the worlds major cities as well as many of their own people as a result, in order to kill the locust and stop them from completely taking over the planet. Marcus Fenix somewhere around this time was given orders to stay at a bridge and guard it with the Hammer of Dawn to protect a convoy that was eventually going to cross over it, but he disobeyed his orders to return to his fathers house along with his friend Dom in order to save him, but sadly his father ended up dying. Great explanation but I got a few things to clear up. E-Day happened two months after the "pendulam wars" that 90 year war over emulsion that you mentioned. Marcus was sentenced to 40 years in prison 10 years into the war but only served 4 years. Then Gears 1 happened.
I recommend you watch a “game movie” instead of “all cutscenes” because while slight, the differences are noticeable. Specifically, game movies usually combine cutscenes with notable in-game dialogue and boss fights. Helps you not be too confused when fighting just ENDS

Halo, Fable, and Gears of War are my favorite Microsoft IPs. The first Gears of War game was one of my first Xbox 360 video games along with.........Sonic 06... :P (and back then, I did like Sonic 06 but now, ehhhh....)
Same except swap out Fable with Ninety-Nine Nights underrated series with a high potential. Think of the reboot like God of War how sick it would look. Or hell maybe make use of it's huge diverse roster and rework it to be their Soulcalibur fighting game. It can essentially be that considering the big thing is a light and dark orb they are fighting to keep separate. Maybe like SC have differening beliefs for it and split story endings based on the characters who win.
You should really see the cinematic for all the games, by gears 5 you'll know the origin of the locust, the new cast members and see the squad grow closer together... but be warned- gears 3 has a scene that made men cry.

The remastered cutscenes really help illustrate what's happening compared to the old ones. Like how RAAM was listening to their coms vs just executing some random guy.
I'd love to see you watch the rest of the Gears of War games, they're awesome. Never played GoW series myself (I'm also a Playstation guy) but I did watch the cinematics as a long, long ass movie. I think it was like, the first three games crammed into one video (4 or 5 hadn't been released yet when I watched it) and it was like 3 or 4 hours long. I recommend watching them, as a movie if you're not gonna be playing the games because it really does feel like something that could be watched, and enjoyed. Definitely worth sitting down to watch, even if it's not gonna be the 3 or 4 hours long video like I watched. I must've been really, REALLY bored that day to sit down and watch all of that 'movie'. I grew up on Halo 3, Gears 1 and Modern Warfare (1 and 2). Honestly wish I could go back. Edit: Battlefield also came in at a later time. Bad Company 2, BF3 and BF4 also got a lot of play time from me.
Please do more gears reactions gears of war is my one of my all time video game franchises. Gears of war was the sole reason why I got an xbox after playing it a friends house. The amount of time invested in the series playing the stories over and over again is something that I will always cherish
This changed gaming forever. There are third person shooters before Gears of War and third person shooters that are either Gears of War or heavily inspired by Gears of War. I heard an interview with a dev from the suprisingly fun title Transformers: War for Cybertron, and he straight up said "we weren't going to do it better than Gears of War so we essentially lifted their core gameplay and controls for our game." A totally valid strategy in my view.
Gears of war was the reason i became an Xbox fan boy back in 2006. Their new games with Gears 4 and 5 have really let me down from a hardcore fan perspective. The original 3 games still hold a special place in my heart.
Trust me, General RAAM (pronounced r-ah-m) is so iconic as a boss that the guys that do Killer Instinct for Xbox One made him a guest character and even utilize the Krill for him.
I just realized something that I've never heard anyone talk about. Anthony possibly helped the gears in a very significant way. The thing he picked up and threw in the hole in that 1 cutscene looked a lot like the geobot that Baird grabbed on the way up that mapped the locust tunnels in a later cutscene.

Honestly really wanna see you go through the gears franchise. It's so amazing and theres so many parts that just tug at your heartstrings. However, i think it's kinda important if you play through them rather than just watch the cutscenes.
Most of the reason why i started playing gears is because when the first came originally came out for xbox 360 my dad wanted to play it co-op with me. We had been doing that with the halo games and figured another xbox exclusive could be fun to play. That started a tradition of us playing every gears game together on launch day and we could not have anticipated the wonderful story that played out. Dee Bee i honestly hope you can pick up these gears games at some point and play through them, there is so much more character and story played out during gameplay and its one of the most fun third person shooters out there. Also really hope you pick up those halo games too since you are now a fan.

Having put thousands and thousands and thousands of hours on all of the gears games and loving the lore as my favorite game I was super stoked to see this video. Gears has kinda went downhill multiplayer wise but the story is absolutely fantastic, books, games, comics, all of it.
I really recommend watching the trailers for each game before reacting to the game itself. Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 have some of the best trailers ever.

As a suggestion, I think watching all the trailers from EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 could be interesting, although a lot of the later ones for the second game are more like developer updates. No matter your thoughts on the games themselves, those trailers are incredible.
Part of the reason for Gears 5's quick price drop was because it was being pushed as the flagship for the new Xbox Gamepass Ultimate service Microsoft hyped up so much at E3. Having Game Pass basically gave you the same game and perks as if you pre-ordered the physical copy.
A bit of info. The locust aren't Alien, they're native to the planet Sera(thats the name of the world in gears of war) And the cutscenes don't explain at all why they were scared of the dark. Basically theres these creatures that look like a swarm of bats from a distance except there's millions of them swarming the sky and they eat anything that's meat down to the bone that's stupid enough to step into the dark.
The young guy with the helmet that lost his head was Anthony Carmine. If you continue to watch cutscene movies from the the all the gears games you will see more of the Carmine family. Edit: just finished the video and yeah you should definitely watch the cinematics from the rest of the gears games.
the reason why Baird was so unhappy about marcus being the leader is because he was once a Lieutenant but was demoted to Private. You will know why it happened in GoW: Judgement, And that story takes place before this story you just watched

Halo, Fable, and Gears of War are my favorite Microsoft IPs. The first Gears of War game was one of my first Xbox 360 video games along with.........Sonic 06... :P (and back then, I did like Sonic 06 but now, ehhhh....)
Same except swap out Fable with Ninety-Nine Nights underrated series with a high potential. Think of the reboot like God of War how sick it would look. Or hell maybe make use of it's huge diverse roster and rework it to be their Soulcalibur fighting game. It can essentially be that considering the big thing is a light and dark orb they are fighting to keep separate. Maybe like SC have differening beliefs for it and split story endings based on the characters who win.
You need to play the entire saga, the tree first are the best, that tell you someone who grew up playing them.

You should really see the cinematic for all the games, by gears 5 you'll know the origin of the locust, the new cast members and see the squad grow closer together... but be warned- gears 3 has a scene that made men cry.

The remastered cutscenes really help illustrate what's happening compared to the old ones. Like how RAAM was listening to their coms vs just executing some random guy.

I'd love to see you watch the rest of the Gears of War games, they're awesome. Never played GoW series myself (I'm also a Playstation guy) but I did watch the cinematics as a long, long ass movie. I think it was like, the first three games crammed into one video (4 or 5 hadn't been released yet when I watched it) and it was like 3 or 4 hours long. I recommend watching them, as a movie if you're not gonna be playing the games because it really does feel like something that could be watched, and enjoyed. Definitely worth sitting down to watch, even if it's not gonna be the 3 or 4 hours long video like I watched. I must've been really, REALLY bored that day to sit down and watch all of that 'movie'.
Regardless, I enjoyed the 'movie', so to speak. Pft, who said you need a Gears of War movie when the games make a movie unto themselves?
I grew up on Halo 3, Gears 1 and Modern Warfare (1 and 2). Honestly wish I could go back.
Edit: Battlefield also came in at a later time. Bad Company 2, BF3 and BF4 also got a lot of play time from me.
Please do more gears reactions gears of war is my one of my all time video game franchises. Gears of war was the sole reason why I got an xbox after playing it a friends house. The amount of time invested in the series playing the stories over and over again is something that I will always cherish

This changed gaming forever. There are third person shooters before Gears of War and third person shooters that are either Gears of War or heavily inspired by Gears of War. I heard an interview with a dev from the suprisingly fun title Transformers: War for Cybertron, and he straight up said "we weren't going to do it better than Gears of War so we essentially lifted their core gameplay and controls for our game." A totally valid strategy in my view.
Gears of war was the reason i became an Xbox fan boy back in 2006. Their new games with Gears 4 and 5 have really let me down from a hardcore fan perspective. The original 3 games still hold a special place in my heart.
You gotta play it man. The first Gears was revolutionary - perfected the third person cover shooter mechanic, and is REALLY fun. I’d recommend it man.

Trust me, General RAAM (pronounced r-ah-m) is so iconic as a boss that the guys that do Killer Instinct for Xbox One made him a guest character and even utilize the Krill for him.

I just realized something that I've never heard anyone talk about. Anthony possibly helped the gears in a very significant way. The thing he picked up and threw in the hole in that 1 cutscene looked a lot like the geobot that Baird grabbed on the way up that mapped the locust tunnels in a later cutscene.
If he'd checked it, it would have been incredibly helpful. Dramatic irony.

Honestly really wanna see you go through the gears franchise. It's so amazing and theres so many parts that just tug at your heartstrings. However, i think it's kinda important if you play through them rather than just watch the cutscenes.
The Locust technically are aliens,they're just subterranean. This takes place on the planet Sera,if I remember correctly.
Most of the reason why i started playing gears is because when the first came originally came out for xbox 360 my dad wanted to play it co-op with me. We had been doing that with the halo games and figured another xbox exclusive could be fun to play. That started a tradition of us playing every gears game together on launch day and we could not have anticipated the wonderful story that played out. Dee Bee i honestly hope you can pick up these gears games at some point and play through them, there is so much more character and story played out during gameplay and its one of the most fun third person shooters out there. Also really hope you pick up those halo games too since you are now a fan.

This franchise is the reason why I bought my first-ever Xbox console only 4 years ago.
Having put thousands and thousands and thousands of hours on all of the gears games and loving the lore as my favorite game I was super stoked to see this video. Gears has kinda went downhill multiplayer wise but the story is absolutely fantastic, books, games, comics, all of it.
The guy who got shot in the head was Anthony Carmine.
I really recommend watching the trailers for each game before reacting to the game itself. Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 have some of the best trailers ever.

baird is the smart ass he is because in gears of war judgment he was originally a lieutenant but got demoted because he didnt follow orders, later on in the series marcus and baird have a real special relationship along with literally all the other characters. probably just as special as the halo relationships
Gears of War was the other co op game series I grew up with along side my older brother (first being halo) the series is near and dear to me. Please do more, I know you'll love it just as I did many years ago. Gears 2 is the best in the series

I’m so glad I found your channel, because I am loving you reacting to games. I really hope you keep it up, although I know there’s not that many of interest. As a suggestion, I think watching all the trailers from EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 could be interesting, although a lot of the later ones for the second game are more like developer updates. No matter your thoughts on the games themselves, those trailers are incredible.

Part of the reason for Gears 5's quick price drop was because it was being pushed as the flagship for the new Xbox Gamepass Ultimate service Microsoft hyped up so much at E3. Having Game Pass basically gave you the same game and perks as if you pre-ordered the physical copy.

A bit of info. The locust aren't Alien, they're native to the planet Sera(thats the name of the world in gears of war) And the cutscenes don't explain at all why they were scared of the dark. Basically theres these creatures that look like a swarm of bats from a distance except there's millions of them swarming the sky and they eat anything that's meat down to the bone that's stupid enough to step into the dark.
The young guy with the helmet that lost his head was Anthony Carmine. If you continue to watch cutscene movies from the the all the gears games you will see more of the Carmine family.

the reason why Baird was so unhappy about marcus being the leader is because he was once a Lieutenant but was demoted to Private. You will know why it happened in GoW: Judgement, And that story takes place before this story you just watched

The "aliens" are actually Locust. The Locust were created by Niles Sampson, a crazy scientist making "the perfect soldiers" for the war.
