Gears of War: Judgement is a good game in its own right, sure some of its mechanics were changed and it’s multiplayer was mediocre but the campaign was good and DeeBee gives the game the proper respect it deserves.
The campaign for Gears of War Judgment is absolutely fine. In fact I’d say it’s as good as the first 3. However, the two main reasons why the game is viewed as ‘bad’ in the Gears community, is due to the classic controls being drastically changed to appeal more so to call of duty players. And the fact that the multiplayer only had four maps on release, which made it very repetitive and got boring quickly.
4 maps and like 4 character skins plus 1 more but you had to buy the season pass and on top of it, it really just wasnt gears of war it felt more like call of duty. Gears 3 just set such a high standard it had like 30 gamemodes and this game was so bare bones and just unfinished but was charging people for stuff that shouldve already been in the game.
Ytomany as a hardcore Gears of War fan since screenshots before any trailers came out, it did felt like a Gears of War game. Didn’t felt like call of duty at all, not like how Halo turned into Call Of Duty once 343 Industries stepped in. When I will give shit to Gears is 4 & 5 which I couldn’t even finish 4 after a few levels and didn’t even okay 5 (yet).
JNuTZ DB cool. If you were a gears fan you would know that both gears judgement and halo 4 came out around that time trying to imitate call of duty like mechanics in order to get that audience to play their games. Both games added a load out features and kill cams which was a new call of duty feature at the time plus other shit I can’t think of off the top of my head. Which literally everyone at the time complained about i was heavily into the gears scene and halo scene they were literally the only 2 games I played back then and I played with a lot of pros. Plus the game was kinda broken I remember their being a shield you can get that would basically win the match cause no one could hurt you.
In addition to the campaign, there was a “fill in gap campaign for Gears of War 3” when Cole and Baird split from delta to find reinforcements prior to getting to Azura.
I've been a die hard Gears fan since the day Gears 1 was revealed and launched. Judgement is a very polarizing game. The controls were definitely controversial. However, the campaign has questionable pacing. The constant breaks and scoring between sections is very jarring. I imagine this was done to hide load times. But the decision to make the game an "arcade" like experience by default was a bad one. I would have preferred the game to flow and progress like the other games in the series. The story being told in past tense was fine. I really loved the Declassified mechanics. I wish other games borrowed that idea. It allowed players to opt in to more difficult challenges on the fly, while adding to the narrative too. It was quite clever. Another issue were the horde sections in the campaign. I don't mind that once, as a means to serve as a tutorial for Horde mode. But having it occur several times is far too much. It comes off as half baked filler. The multiplayer...Oh boy...It was fucking terrible. That's all that really needs to be said. Overrun was a neat concept though. It basically combined Horde and Beast mode into one game type. One team would be COG, each character assigned to a different class, each with different skills, abilities and weapons. The Locust team played exactly how it did in Beast mode. COG were always on defense and Locust on offense.
For some reason, one of the only characters that I like introduced in this game was Paduk, maybe it was how he used to be part of the UIR and so it could have had added an interesting perspective. Also Carmine Family Life Insurance was one of the best parts
Nothing is wrong with the story, it’s just extra lore and background. The game just had god awful multiplayer, people would just go back and play Gears 3 since it was only 2 years apart
@@odstkefro3343 I think Halo 4 is the exact same situation as judgement, a different studio and a good/great campaign, with multiplayer that was different and thus rejected
tell that to the people who hate Baird and were pissed when a game was made purely to justify that he was a smart guy who actually was worth a damn. because before judgment there were people who felt "baird was the smart ass who kept thinking he was a genius but really...he just mocks dom all day" but judgment was like "hold my beer" and told the story of how Baird pulled down his pants and stuck his middle finger up to the whole COG and said "who's the smart one...i am bi%$"
At least we find out why Baird was deranked, and got upset when Marcus got a promotion. Edit: I forgot the Markza had the scope, they should have left it. Side Note: Deebee there's a funny video about the Carmine family insurance you should check it out.
It’s in the books and comics more, but the cog during the locust war had “breeding farms” forced women to have children to get more population. Here the girl in kilo squad wasn’t able to produce so they put her to fight instead. The locust also chained down the berserkers and a bunch went in to forcefully do the deed. Gears is very dark
ADARKWIND cliff confirmed it in an interview, berserkers are chained down by th locust and r*ped to produce more locust, he says he regrets doing that, and it was just him in a dark place during that time, try again
I never noticed the Carmine Family Insurance thing! Been playing this game for years and never noticed it! Also I liked this game, it took a little bit for me to get it after it came out but I enjoyed it. I don’t see why people bash it, maybe it’s because since it’s a prequel, people assumed or would have rather played as Marcus and Dom? I can’t say because I loved it and have played through constantly. 🤷♂️
Seeing first your Halo journey and now your Gears one has been awesome! I used to play local tournaments for them in shops where I lived, was so much fun. Hope you will continue the Mass Effect journey too.
As others have pointed out, people typically liked Judgment's campaign. It was the multiplayer that was an absolute dumpster fire. Was basically a 3rd person COD. I'll list off a few of the horrible changes made to the MP. -No DBNO (Which means when you take enough damage to be downed, you just die instead of going down) -No more D-pad for switching weapons. It was allocated to the "Y" button. (Like most other shooters) -One primary weapon starts. Meaning instead of spawning with a Lancer, Gnasher, Snub and smoke, like you did in previous games, you had to choose from one of the following: Gnasher, Lancer, Retro Lancer, HB, Classic HB, etc. -No playable Locusts. Could only play as the COG.
Fun fact. Cliff said that he wrote this game to be about the Onyx squad "the guards escorting the prisoners in the intro" on Emergence Day. And how the Chairman was their only contact person. He had written a crazy script he posted a few months ago. But Epic gave the job away to their Polish Studio and told them to do a Baird story instead. It's why some aspect did seem "alien" as it's not their main studio that did it. I would have liked the Onyx variant. As this was not a memorable game for me at all. Tho I've not played it since it was new.
I played this with my friends on release, during Junior year of HS. I quite enjoyed it too. I was never a hardcore Gears fan though, so that might be why.
I actually love gears judgement I played online with my friends like every day and the campaign was fun, an underrated title in the franchise in my opinion so HAPPY TO SEE YOU PLAY IT Dee Bee despite of what some people may say
Just wanted to drop a comment in the recent video asking if you are going to play spartan assault ? I reinstalled it and forgot how interesting it is. And it warms my heart seeing a PlayStation guy enjoy halo.
Carmine Family Life Insurance! Oh man, I had to pause and laugh for a minute on that one. At least we know the art team's sense of humor is alive and well.
Fuck yeah! Love your videos. I actually believe that you must play the entire GOW games, Judgement is a very fun game. Different. I watch your videos, love your reactions, its like I am playing all the games again. I am a Halo and Gears fan, so its awesome for me to "share" these games and emotions along with you as a play station guy like you. Greetings from México!
Versus was cogs vs cogs (no locusts) which really didnt sit well with fans. Overrun was an attempt to combine horde and beast, but became a weaker experience regardless of side you played as.
This was my first ever gears game i ever played! So naturally its my favorite one! :) I never understood why people hated it i have like 300+ hours on the damn thing and enjoyed every second of it, later on i played 3, 1, 2 (in that order yeah) and i liked them but not as much as judgement so i didn't played them as much gears 3 was my favorite one of the OG trilogy
It's weird with the gears games I never played one that I've disliked (haven't played tactics yet tho). As a game series go on it might get stale but somehow, in my eyes, gears has kept it together and made me look forward to the next one.
I kinda wish that there was some more story focus in the campaign it really focuses on gameplay and to me it doesnt feel like much is going on in each part of the chapters.
In gears one, Marcus is promoted to lead delta squad after Kim's death. This game explains why he was promoted and not Baird. Also I think the whole gears story would have been a little stronger if you played all campaigns in chronological order (Judgement, RAAM's shadow, 1,2,3, Judgment's Aftermath, 4 & 5). Keep doing the classified challenges as they tell the real story. Also for most of the campaign if you die and restart at a check point different enemies spawn. People also give a lot of crap for MP, but one gem was the FAA mode. Gears should have always had a FFA mode.
Imo, I didnt mind this game as all that much. It was enjoyable and I loved some of the maps, especially the oil rig one where you could jump on the raven and ride around with a minigun. Another great thing of this game was it looked pretty good, and played very smoothly. Main thing I didnt like was the multiplayer really tried to go call of duty with only having 2 weapons and switching with Y, they also got rid of executions and going into the downed state which made the first 3 pretty intense on tdm and execution... overall, pretty solid
I fricking love gears judgment the only thing wrong with it was the multiplayer it had some awesome modes OVERRUN being one of them the grapics were really good for its time n all i feel the story may have been short but was really fun too the controls could have stayed the same but i feel like its better for fast paced gamplay. DeeBee i love that you dont ignore these black sheep of gaming and you see it as how it is a game to have fun with keep itvuo lad.
Baird was my favorite of the main cast so when this game was announced I lost. My. SHIT. And I love this game so much, it’s definitely my second favorite one. So good!
Normally if people say they dislike a shooter its often because of multiplayer reasons. I thought that Judgement was pretty cool in terms of the declassified missions and the replayability. Also playing as Baird is a plus.
I personally liked the campaign and the second game mode they added where players were either the cog defending or locust attacking (been so long since I played), I just didn’t enjoy the switch to FPS controls, the multiplayer, and the continuity of the lore in some aspects
If this man had Xbox 360, I'd ask him to try out Warhammer 40k Space Marine, and Transformers War for Cybertron. Two completely different games but would be fun to see👌
I can’t fully remember why I didn’t like judgement because it’s been about 6 years since I last played it, but I know damn well that it’s nowhere near as good as the first 3 games. Yeah, the controls were an annoyance, but that was just scraping the surface on why people disliked this game. And I didn’t play any of the multiplayer so I can’t speak on it, I only preordered it for the campaign.
The story isn't bad I find it quite enjoyable but the reason it gets the bad rep is because the control change up and the multiplayer. But still my third favorite gears
Hey DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- You remember that guy, Hyrounijutsu? I know I spelled it wrong but whatever. You NEED to make some reaction videos on his more recent stuff. I know you’ve moved on from mostly DBZ content but just, please. Plus it would be an absolute treat to witness.
My main gripe with this game (besides the obvious game mechanics changed and multiplayer) is the score based system in EVERY LEVEL, it’s honestly stupid to me and takes away from the experience for me, honestly I would’ve preferred it if that scored system wasn’t there to begin with
People were down on this game because it came out after the masterpiece that was Gears 3, so this paled in comparison. It was also a different developer (People Can Fly) . Felt more like a gap filler game to hold people over to gears 4
Carmine is my #1 favorite character. All the Carmines in the gears series. Paduk is my 2nd favorite character cause he knows more about war and he survives plus I like the UIR.
Campaign was decent, it was the multiplayer that I found sucked. I think one issue that people had was that the chainsaw lancer should not have existed at the point in time. Yea, Cole is not his usual self this is when he was a recruit if I remember right. So it could be that.
I didn't enjoy the game when it launched and it took me a while to eventually get around to replaying it, but when I did, I really enjoyed it. I think the controls were a big turn off for players and the game just didn't feel like a proper Gears game at first, but once I came back to it before I marathoned all the Gears games in preparation for 5, I actually really enjoyed it
I belive people didn't like it because of the controls and multiplayer. The judgement campaign was fine but it did cross the line as the kantas were not introduced till gears 2 which was 15 years into the locust war and judgment is set 30 days into the war also the lancer was not invented till 2 years into the locust war but its there in judgement campaign that is based 30 days at the start so it doesn't make complete sence it's like the directors said screw the lore and books. Still good game in my opinion definitely was a fan of overload that horde/beast mode put together.
i think the main complaint in judgement was the multiplayer (rightfully so it sucked) and the fact it was so arcadey but i thought the campaign was pretty fun although the changes to the grenades i could never get used to i was so used to pressing up d-pad holding LT aiming and throwing not holding LB it was so weird it fucked with my gears brain
We dont hate the campaign. We hate the Multiplayer for multiple reasons but the most obvious reasons are: 1) NO LOCUST IN MULTIPLAYER 2) change in the mechanics like the weapons. I loved the campaign and his antagonist is ok, not as good as RAAM, Skorge or Myrrah but is ok. This prequel to Gears 3 DLC and Gears 1 but sequel to Gears Tactics tells you more facts about gears universe that only the people who reads comics would know. Curiosities of this video: 1) We play as the Kilo Squad members (Paduk, Sophia, Cole and Baird). 2) Karn is the New general antagonist with his Shivolette. 3) before Gears of War and after Great Zera War it existed the Pendulum Wars with 2 divisions that fought for imulsion. One was the CGO, the other were the URI, (Paduk is a soldier that was in that faction) they lost and after they lost they were weak and Raam with Karn made a plan to destroy them first, Karn went to Gorasnia and killed almost all the URI members while Raam atacked another city and killed one character, Will Carmine. 4) Coronel Loomis is on a higher position than Hoffman. 5) Eliot worked with Adam in the Harmer of Dawn, Misile, bombs, etc. 6) Eliot created Jack.01 7) In this game is the first documented apearance in the history of the Cyclops, Cerapides and Imulsion lambents. 8) The Onix guards are the Maximum cgo levels (without coronels or things like that), they helped a lot in pendulum wars but in Locust War they are wortless, so, they use them a lot in everything and end up dying. 9) The Marksa and Broshka are the URI weapons. 10) [Spoiler] This game is the only pne with no Carmine member on action, there are only 3 references, 1 wuth their company, another in a collectable that mentions "Fredo Carmine" and you can hear them talking later in the campaign, Clayton appears after this campaign on repercutions.
Not going to lie I really like the overrun part of this game it's like the best part only if they bring back overrun and I guess beast mode but I don't really like beast mode I suck at it. Also I guess Cole is quiet because this is closer to the death of his mother so he could be a little bit more depressed I guess but he could be just as happy and the Lord at the time of this game and they just made him quiet as hell.
Gears of War: Judgement is a good game in its own right, sure some of its mechanics were changed and it’s multiplayer was mediocre but the campaign was good and DeeBee gives the game the proper respect it deserves.
All gears multiplayer is medicore.
I love the multiplayer because it had overrun for the first time and the last time
It wasn’t bad game really to me personally
Wait till dee bee geek plays gears of war 4 he’ll finally know where his name originates

Overrun was great but the other modes I didn't like
Agree
Fun fact: General Karn was the mastermind behind E-day and his monster is named shibboleth.
For such a "mastermind", he was easily the easiest Locust general to defeat. Even on insane difficulty.
Wasn't Raam the mastermind, as of the Rise of Raam comics. He was promoted from Vold to Uzil when he disgraced Sraak.
I've been a die hard Gears fan since the day Gears 1 was revealed and launched.
Judgement is a very polarizing game. The controls were definitely controversial. However, the campaign has questionable pacing. The constant breaks and scoring between sections is very jarring.
My only real gripe aside from the multiplayer is that Cole doesn't act like Cole at all in this game.
If this man had Xbox 360, I'd ask him to try out Warhammer 40k Space Marine, and Transformers War for Cybertron. Two completely different games but would be fun to see👌
Yay, you played it! :)
3:55 thats because your a few years back from gears 1 or ultimate edition
Hope he plays the aftermath campaign after this one
The story is great but the lack of characters and little waves in survival (horde)
But still my third favorite gears
i liked it too, for campaign at least never played online PvP
Another really good game.. it's definitely a prequel, but it's definitely an enjoyable one. Enjoy this one Dee, keep up the great work!!
There is a secret campaign called aftermath and it takes place in gears of war 3 u gonna play it's not really long
Oh yes I’ve been waiting for so long
I like it too so you are not alone
I’m surprised that people did not like gears judgement. When I played it was really fun!
I loved this game, controls were new, nothing from keeping me from learning though.
Espero que también juegues "repercusiones" 😍😍😍😍
Hey DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-
You remember that guy, Hyrounijutsu? I know I spelled it wrong but whatever. You NEED to make some reaction videos on his more recent stuff. I know you’ve moved on from mostly DBZ content but just, please. Plus it would be an absolute treat to witness.
Judgement was the first gears I played beginning to end on hardcore difficulty on my first play through. Now that’s the only way I experience Gears
It’s considered the proper difficulty to play Gears on. Hardcore is to Gears what Heroic is the Halo.
For me is a good game, very cool
7 years later and I still havent finished the game 🤣🤣🤣
💙
Campaign was decent, it was the multiplayer that I found sucked. I think one issue that people had was that the chainsaw lancer should not have existed at the point in time. Yea, Cole is not his usual self this is when he was a recruit if I remember right. So it could be that.
I didn't enjoy the game when it launched and it took me a while to eventually get around to replaying it, but when I did, I really enjoyed it. I think the controls were a big turn off for players and the game just didn't feel like a proper Gears game at first, but once I came back to it before I marathoned all the Gears games in preparation for 5, I actually really enjoyed it
Gears of war judgement is underatted
JUDGMENT HAS A DLC
Yeah, and in my opinion it's better than judgement itself
All of it dlc packs are multiplayer related.
There is an add on story dlc
@@milky7400 are you refering to the aftermath story? That wasn't a DLC, it came free with the game since release.
Yesp
I belive people didn't like it because of the controls and multiplayer. The judgement campaign was fine but it did cross the line as the kantas were not introduced till gears 2 which was 15 years into the locust war and judgment is set 30 days into the war also the lancer was not invented till 2 years into the locust war but its there in judgement campaign that is based 30 days at the start so it doesn't make complete sence it's like the directors said screw the lore and books. Still good game in my opinion definitely was a fan of overload that horde/beast mode put together.
Soon you will have over a million subs
a lot people disliked the multiplayer but i really liked it especially over run
Campaign was great it lacked in multiplayer
A mí sí me gustó este juego, aunque no por su campaña, si no por su multijugador
Never knew people didn't like judgment
I used to love this game ❤️
i think the main complaint in judgement was the multiplayer (rightfully so it sucked) and the fact it was so arcadey but i thought the campaign was pretty fun although the changes to the grenades i could never get used to i was so used to pressing up d-pad holding LT aiming and throwing not holding LB it was so weird it fucked with my gears brain
Play firefight in halo
We dont hate the campaign.
We hate the Multiplayer for multiple reasons but the most obvious reasons are:
1) NO LOCUST IN MULTIPLAYER
2) change in the mechanics like the weapons.
I loved the campaign and his antagonist is ok, not as good as RAAM, Skorge or Myrrah but is ok.
This prequel to Gears 3 DLC and Gears 1 but sequel to Gears Tactics tells you more facts about gears universe that only the people who reads comics would know.
Curiosities of this video:
1) We play as the Kilo Squad members (Paduk, Sophia, Cole and Baird).
6) Eliot created Jack.01
7) In this game is the first documented apearance in the history of the Cyclops, Cerapides and Imulsion lambents.
8) The Onix guards are the Maximum cgo levels (without coronels or things like that), they helped a lot in pendulum wars but in Locust War they are wortless, so, they use them a lot in everything and end up dying.
9) The Marksa and Broshka are the URI weapons.
10) [Spoiler]
This game is the only pne with no Carmine member on action, there are only 3 references, 1 wuth their company, another in a collectable that mentions "Fredo Carmine" and you can hear them talking later in the campaign, Clayton appears after this campaign on repercutions.
Are going to play gears 4 and 5 on the PC? NICER GRAPHICS
Gears Judgement was a favorite not the favorite but a favorite
Not going to lie I really like the overrun part of this game it's like the best part only if they bring back overrun and I guess beast mode but I don't really like beast mode I suck at it.
Also I guess Cole is quiet because this is closer to the death of his mother so he could be a little bit more depressed I guess but he could be just as happy and the Lord at the time of this game and they just made him quiet as hell.
Are you going to play gears 4 and 5 as well
I really loved judgement, played it more than most of the other games. The stars were very rewarding
