Great review. No zoom on the passthrough view is a dealbreaker for me. That would be a primary use-case.
Indeed. Well maybe in the sixth gen.
Same, it's a complete deal breaker. I don't understand why the fuck there is no magnifier. Like Apple knows this and they still don't do it
The hardware is here but it's an easily implantable software feature (speaking as a software engineer)
I hope app developers see this. Maybe someone can write one.

This is why Apple needs to include features such as more cameras with some sort of form of, lidar, infrared, and the ability to take the person's eye condition into consideration. Where you have peripheral vision and make it so if your head is facing forward then you will see the forward portion that is in front of you on the screen in the peripheral area of the device so when you turn your head left or right in the same area you saw items as there were in front of you they will be in the same spot on the screen but your head would be pointed in the direction as if you had central vision but on the area of where you have vision. This would be achieved by not having a flat screen but a screen for each eye that would be like looking into a bowl. This would allow the cameras to pick up everything as if you had full eye vision in your entire eye but as you move your head as if you moved your eye depending on your eye condition the device could give you everything as you would without the device. An additional feature would be nice to have reverse cameras and sensors?
Great review!
Now I’m over here chuckling about the eye tracking because of my severe nystagmus and phoria. Lol!
As a low vison person this headset is magical! - large screens where i wan’t them….no hunching over keyboards.. any more… there is also audio shortcuts in accessibility like making specific noises which is very very. cool too
I saw a CZcamsr raise an interesting point, will the IR blaster in the Apple Vision Pro worsen vision over time? This seems problematic for us VIP trying to preserve what little vision we have left.
If I could drive with it, I'd buy one immediately
Thanks so much Sam for this video! Much appreciated that you spent the time and money to make this video! It was very helpful and beneficial 😀
Glad it helped!
@@theblindlife hello to blind life I commented on your CZcams video this one but I thought I should say it again so I am blind I can only see light and shadows so do you think? division pro it’s gonna be a good product to me or not.
They should add an offset calibration option so that people without central vision can also take advantage of eyetracking.

I would be happy if Apple added metamorphopsia (wavy vision) correction eventually. This is my current biggest problem due to a retinal disease.
Great video Sam! Very disappointed this doesn't have the Magnifier app, what a letdown for the low vision community.
This clarified alot!
Thanks Sam. Great review.
Thank you for the Vido. I had no idea we share the same condition..
Excellent review Sam! Soooo helpful. Thank you!
Excellent video! So helpful for me. Thank you!
It would be a blessing if Apple would do some tweaking on this device to make a low vision specific device .
That is amazing!!! I want to buy that!! Great video!!! 🙂
It would be wonderful to have a device like this, that say, you could wear it, and be watching TV or whatever, and be able to zoom in to make the TV closer to you and able to read things
I’d like to thank you a lot for this video it was very very helpful to give me a view about the Apple Vision Pro
Thanks Sam. I'm legally blind with 20/400 vision in my right eye and light perception in my left. So this video helped a lot. Hopefully as the Apple Vision Pro is out longer there will be more features that'll make it useful for someone like me. It would be more appealing if Apple had magnification for pass-thru. Maybe in the future.
Thanks for the review! I was really hoping for a zoom on the passthrough video.
I hope so.
thanks fror the review bro, maybe I'll wait for 4Th generation 'of the vision pro.
It would be really beneficial if you could make an Aira or a Be My Eyes call When that becomes available it might be worth getting
Hi Sam, new subscriber. Thank you for the review. I am not visually impaired myself but I do work in the visual aid sector and I was so curious about the vision pro from a accessible perspective. Sad that some of my hunches were correct about visual controls not working for the blind but you are right. It's the first generation, can hopefully only go up.
Fantastic. I very much appreciate your analysis and pragmatic assessment of how well this device will. work for people with different levels of blindness and visual impairment.
Thank you Sam for a great informative video!
It confirms what I suspected: it may not be of much use to me except as a giant monitor with zoom capability.
Love you channel - keep up the good work. 😃
thanks for sharing.. I love my apple eco system but not sure this one is in the cue anytime soon..
Thanks for this review! As someone who has low vision and loves Apple products I am glad to have someone in the community give a useful review for our needs. I love the merch btw ❤( I just ordered a sweatshirt!)
Thank you so much for this review it’s probably the most intensive report for those who have vision issues I suffer from RP so I was concerned I think I may wait till WWDC to see what new options are available but once again thank you
Thanks Sam for a very amazing review of the apple vision pro. I am hoping that in the future the device has feature like the envision glasses which is practically improved to be more useful for the professional needs of the blind like me.
Thanks Sam, now I understand why the Apple Vision Pro is not a good device for my needs.
Thanks for doing this, Sam. I know you weren't sure if you wanted to get one, but you did. After this review, I think I'll wait till the 3rd or 4th generation before I get one. Hopefully by then I'll have some of the kinks ironed out
🎉🎉🎉 This is why I love you bro! You speak the truth! Thanks for the great review and saving the community millions of dollars.
Always!
Great video! Could you try connecting your phone to the vision pro and then use the magnifier accessibility app on the phone (or just the regular camera app) to then show a magnified view of the real world in the vision pro. You could wear the phone on a chest mounted harness. I would also like to know if you can zoom the window displaying the phone screen in the vision pro.
Very very helpful, thank you. I'm primarily interested and would definitely spend the cash on a hi res, ultra low latency wearable for passthrough zoom alone if it had it. Hopefully we see some development in that area as more people get their hands on it.
That said, I'd love to hear more about that development mode you mentioned in passing. What it takes to enable it and what it offers. Maybe I could hack something out myself or sponsor the development of a passthrough zoom.
Great review. Lebers took my central vision 10 years ago. Magnification is the only thing that can help me. I actually worked for eSight for three years. Even that is not working because I require so much zoom.
Thanks Sam for making this video and, of course, paying for the Vision Pro with your own money. Not sure I'm ready to buy one myself, but as you said at the end of the video, it's the first generation of these devices so, hopefully, we can expect significant improvement over time.
Thanks for taking the time to give a complete review. It’s so expensive and does not seem to be a good device for me as a legally blind person
This was an awesome review! congratulations for doing all this for us the blind community. you definitely deserve to have more subscribers so i'm going to share and like all your videos so you can do that. regarding the vision pro it is going to be much better in the future i believe.
Much appreciated!
Excellent and thorough review, thanks brother. I will try this with my buddy who has RP and roughly 30% of his vision remaining.
Any treatment is there for retinitis pigmentosa? From India
I appreciate this so much. I have had many calls with Apple and my thought was to buy and try for 14 days. You did that for me. I decided to try out the XReal Air 2 for the immersive experience and it only costs $400.
Have you tried using one of the binocular apps? Would it be possible to load a binocular app that you can find in the Apple Store and have a window open with it magnifying what the camera is looking at? Thanks for posting this video and all of this work you did on this video.
👍 most excellent. you answered most of my questions. what about productivity? Contant entry? Using the keyboard? Dictation? Will you be editing videos on your device? and thank you Again for helping me live my BEST BLIND LIFE!
I have been curious about the Apple Vision pro, and whether I would even be able to use it. As I only see unfocused shadows, I won't be using one yet. However, I really appreciate the information you shared. Thanks!
Great content. Question. I am aphaikic and wear the old school coke bottle classes. Would you think I would be able to wear my glasses with this device? Or is it pretty much a non-starter for glasses based on how the head strap looks?
Thanks for your content. I've been looking for this type of thing forever!
I have Stargardt's and a little near sighted and like you don't wear glasses much but in a select situations. But when I use meta quest 2, the glasses make a really large difference. These VR devices seem to use your distance vision regardless of if you looking at a foating screen that "feels" a foot from your face. Give the glasses a try!
You are correct you can only use Apple Vision Pro right now on Mac OS devices not PC
If you have Apple TV remote, which you don’t use, try to connect it to Apple Vision Pro, if it possible. Or try to use remote control option in the accessibility settings on your Apple Watch. Maybe it’s will be helpful.
Does meta quest 3 have pass through magnification
Sam, have you ever done a segment on tap Le top games and other non electronic playables? I used to play tabletop games with my friends but it’s hard to find one now.
Hey sam, thanks for the good review. I actually made an appointment at an Apple Store to check these out in person just because I was curious. And they’re not for me. I am totally blind, after being a partial most of my life. And I rely on voiceover completely. And it was just too heavy on my head and for the expense I think I’ll wait.
However, I would be totally curious to know what these would be like if I hadn’t lost my vision just a little over a decade ago. Would I have that hundred foot screen in front of my eyes I’ll never know. But I think it’s cool that as a visually impaired guy you’re able to review this.
Does it has a app to set it up?
Hey Sam.
Thank you so much for this review. I totally agree with you that you know that this is a brand new product, I do agree that with time I believe that it will be better for us in the future to use.
With that said, I know you said that your comments and everything is your own and Apple had nothing to do with this video in terms of sponsoring it at all. But I would definitely still reach out to Apple and put in your feedback as a visually impaired person so that they are aware of the areas where they could improve it so much better. Hopefully you know someone or have a contact in the Apple verse.
Thanks again, Sam! Awesome video.
You’re totally right. I think it’s not going to take that long. The hardware is here already now it’s developers turn to make the most out of it. A magnifier app for APV it’s a software implementation away from being a reality I’d say.
I had the same foot as you. Are you gonna wait when zoom feature will be universal for all system. A little off-topic. Did you try some video glasses for smart phones which connects to a smart phone via wire? They have no cameras, but they can Mirroring your phone screen.
Thanks so much for this very in-depth review! I can see how this would be helpful to a number of VIP conditions.
Still, that is quite an investment.
Good stuff 🙌🏻
More Apple Vision Pro, plZ
Hi, just a general question. Is there a way I can use my scanner to scan mail or whatever and then have spoken content read it for me? Thanks
Thanks! I was at the Apple Store and saw that they were providing demos. I would try it out to give them feedback from my perspective, which is 20/150 to 20/2000. I am sorry I skipped to the end to hear your review!
On the upside, it’s great to see others wearing a device similar to those devices that look alike and do provide vision aids for us.
Thank you so much!
hoping for a comprehensive review of the Sony HX99RNV retinal projection camera kit. Sony has a 14-day no questions asked trial for US residents only.
I had a lot of issues during setup. Voiceover jumped around a lot. I had to put in my Apple ID and password.
As a concept, this could be useful for the armies around the world as you could have like a spacial view in all directions.
I don't mean the apple vision pro necessarily, although that might change in the future depending on how it improves. But I mean this idea of spacial computers that you strap to your face.
I think the f35 might have a similar spacial feature view, wherein the cabin of the airplane can be dropped from your view so you can look below.
What about using the camera when need to zoom in and out because zooming in and out would be groundbreaking for the visually impaired well, having it on pass through mode
Two questions:
1) Are the magnets located on the optional padding or on the device itself? I could potentially use this if there are no magnets on the device.
2) can the device serve as a second screen to an iPad? The lack of lag is an attractive feature for low vision musicians using standard iPad apps and Bluetooth page turner to read band or orchestral music.
Thanks for the excellent review!
😆 Now at least vision aid companies can learn from it what would work great for us.
Imagine this dial camera pass trough with a crown to enlarge the environment.
Nothing more needed
👍 Thanks for purchasing and reviewing it 🫶
Can live cable tv be streamed on Apple Vision Pro?
my first time watching content on your channel, I heard about it from applevis a couple of non-tech questions, as a person with low vision, how do you keep your head shaved? I have wanted to do this, but have always thought I could not do it independently with my vision loss?
related question, how do you keep your beard shaped up?
0:08
Hy sam have u revomemded smart vision to see in dark
r u familiar with the vergence accommodation conflict of vr headsets ....the pic in the headset is always at 2.5 or so meters focal lenght ....the only way it can help someone see is when u can't focus close up at 25 centimeters .....so something in your hand is actually an image that is 2.5 meters away and u can actually focus on that now
....other than that yeah contrast and dedicated zoom app but the cameras r not great for zooming like a telephoto cam on a phone
How 2 zoom inch a movie amd message and FaceTime ??
Does anyone know if this will work for someone with vision in one eye?
What about people with one eye is it going to work for them
Can you read things lime overhead manure etc?
Dang prices😢
I am blind I can only see light. And shadows. So do you think? Division pro is a good product for me.
I want to ask, is it usable if you have a partial vision field? My right eye is completely blind and my left eye has low vision and i can't find any info anywhere about VR headsets being used with one eye and how that translates
Have you tried the Eyedaptic Eye5? That might work for you
This will be great
good video. in both my eyes the maciula died off . so no central vision. the hardware is looks great , now its up to the developers to make software. they can eazely charpen the screen on the edges and blocking central vision. adding zoom exetra . the high price is also verry sad news . most visualy inpaired people , who hve no job . can afford sumthing like this.
My condition is opposite of your s I only have a small tunnel no o peripheral vision I what do you do for work i have a 8 year old and trying to find a career in a personal trainer
You use only apple devices in your daily life?
Look I have RP and I m 89 percent blind and trying to find work I'm a personal trainer I'm offering 2 months free training just to try to get people to give me a chance I m natural and have a 300; bench 400 Squat and Walk. 3 miles a day
When will Sam review a new cane?
Are you familiar with the X3 bar or any other resistance ban system?
I like it because it's super portable and you're able to check out someone's form and help them with it and assist them whenever they need help.
@@blinkyschannel Yes
Looks dim to me
This is the worst Vision Pro you’ll ever see so it can only get better from here on out.
Thanks. This was a great video and helped me so much. But I am from Germany so I cannot buy it to this time.
"Voice over is hand activated so it's a problem because I talk with my hands" Welp, there goes the Italian market 🤌
