96-Year-Old Kung Fu Master Carries on Ip Man's Legacy

- On a weekday evening, Ip Chun is exchanging Wing Chun moves with his students, who are often a fraction of his age. The 96-year-old is the eldest son of Chinese martial arts legend Ip Man, the teacher of Bruce Lee.
Ip Chun said the philosophy of Wing Chun is to use gentleness to subdue strong power. He says his martial arts form helps him navigate the society and the way he lives.
Still traveling around China for martial arts seminars and having a regular teaching schedule, Ip has no thoughts of retiring. "I will keep teaching until I can't," Ip said. He vows to spend the rest of his life to keep his father's Wing Chun legacy alive.

He just turned 100 years old, i really can't believe it. This man is a gem at this point
He hasn't turned a hundred yet. His Birthday is July 31st.
He just turned 99 on July 31st, what an incredible dude. He looks phenomenal for his age!!!!
July 31 is his birthday?? Wow! My sister was born in 29th while my grandmother was in 28th
98 years of age and still alive doing what he's been doing for almost his entire life, amazing stuff
you just grow stronger as a kun fu master
and smoking
@franciscogodo it doesn't matter
This man is so kind to spend his time teaching and giving others a chance to learn.
Hello there! how're you doing?
@@smithlily7923 okay. I wish and want to visit the Ip Chun Academy sometime and visit that school someday. I hope.
@@gezaburkit8914 Oh nice! i wish your dreams come thru. Nice to meet you, I'm Lily.

Ok, this man is one of my heroes. He's 97 years old now, yet continues to train, teach, and keep his skills and mind sharp, and the fact that he can remember stuff from when he was 6 or 7 years old speak volumes of how he has maintained himself. Honestly, he gives off the energy of a 30 year old
Incredible ! 96 years old ! At this age, in what condition will we be, even if still alive ?? Master in Kung Fu, and master of a humble life !
Giving highest respects to grandmaster Ip Chun. I hope that one day I would meet him in person and learn from him.
With all due respect, but if you truly want to meet him in person, I wouldn't wait too long to go and do so. Nobody lives eternally
@@fleccodusyeah he's old asf 😂
He's in a care home now so he isn't teaching anymore
Even his lungs have mastered the art of self defence
Ip Chun is a heavy pipe smoker which is incredible that He isn't suffering with lung cancer at 100 years old
96? He looks so good for his age
He's very wise to say, "If you want to reach my age, don't get angry and don't let stuff bother you. Anger is very bad for your health." My grandfather was a bit of an angry man and he died too soon, also looked older than his age.
He has my respect 💯
A high respect to Ip's generations to master the wing Chung💐💛💛🙏🏻 wish they could live longer with us..✨
Chun smokes and he still manages to live a healthy life and he's almost 100 years old!!!!! Good gravy!!!! Ip Sifu, god bless you!!!! 👏👏👏 (2:48)
if he is still working in his 90s it doesn't give us an excuse not to work.
I hope he lives to be 120 and still teach wing chun
His father was a legend
They bof are in my opinion
He is legend too
Word legend is used like term for inspirable special unforgettable people living or death. So if people still talk about Ip man, he is still legend.
Ip chun is like a video game he is timeless he is a wizard
If you want to live to my age don't let anyone annoy you. That's quite a proverb.
he's doing great for a 96 year old!!

@Indigo V Ironically no. he started learning in earnest only when he was PAST his prime, & when he said he didn't get into a fight, he MEANT it. kung fu, at its core, is more about self refinement, a kind of moving meditation, than it is an actual fighting art. with an art that ain't combat-based, you'd get good enough with the routines & moves when you spend enough time honing them. actual fights ain't necessary.
@Benjamin Hausmann I'm sure he has gotten into a couple of street fights throughout his life.

He doesn't let someone annoy him that's the key

Where is his school
Real Kung Fu, along with real Karate, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Newaza, etc are all actual martial art forms that have been around longer than anyone's been alive today. Much longer. To judge the authenticity of them based on TV or movies or even competitions is absolutely ridiculous. You want to know what it takes to get a legitimate black belt in Kung Fu? At least 8-10 years of weekly training based on learning, memorizing, perfecting moves, sets of moves, taking tests, conditioning, competitions, growing significantly physically mentally and emotionally.
Besides the fact that Kung Fu doesn't have belts (some westernized schools use sashes but that's irrelevant here), absolutely spot on. It takes years of dedication and hard training.
Some of the martial arts you listed were created as recently as last century. Regardless, something being old doesn't necessarily make it better. A flint lock pistol is not as effective as a modern semi-auto pistol for example. Modern medicine is superior to 19th century quackery.
I used to teach Kung Fu. I learned 2 systems, including wing chun. If you're a fan of Chinese culture and just want to learn what is essentially martial arts themed dance traditional kung fu is fine. Wing chun is okay if you want to learn a few hand trapping techniques. But don't bother if you really want to learn self defense or how to actually fight. If you want Kung Fu that works in a fight, learn sanda. Muay Thai, wrestling, boxing and BJJ are good too. If you're determined to be a "wing chun fighter", learn kickboxing or boxing first, then learn wing chun.
Btw, I'll add that most of those 8-10 years will be spent learning mostly useless hand and weapon forms. You would get more fighting skill from 3 months of Brazilian jiu-jitsu or 6 months of boxing.

So is it true that the greatest art of combat is to avoid it? But to be ready for the fight?
Thank you for your point of view. Have you spoken to any good wing chung practitioner. I agree there is alot of people who think they can fight. But they are a small percentage who can use it well.
Dose he still teach ip chun ?

Have never gotten in to a fight and some how people want to learn?

Who says tobacco will kill you? At 96 grandmaster Ip Chun can still teach wing chun and smoke 💪🏼
Tobacco does kill you, and it's dangerous to say otherwise. Ip Chun has been doing Wing Chun for decades, meaning he is in great health for his age. His genetics could potentially be a factor too.
IP chun Born at:1924
IP ching comment
Ip ching was also great grandmaster. RIP
He is still smoking everyday lol
To be fair, he smokes with a pipe which isn't meant to go into the lungs (unless the smoker chooses to, of course). No doubt it's still not the best choice health-wise, but it doesn't compromise his lungs as a cigarette would
@@Hades8103 then where does it go into if not into the lungs?

Great man. Very wise, but him not having a fight in his entire life must be a mistranslation. How can you train firemen if you have never been in one?
he could carry on shit
Now i convinced that those with large ear live long
This is wrong logic, they have large ears because they lived long. Not the other way round.
Amazing but realistically he’s not stopping anyone at his age.
yep
We all get old my guy.
I love my Wing Chun and I am old. That's why I conceal carry. 😉. Only a slight pressure from one finger will stop a deadly threat attack. That man is amazing. He could probably take a rookie easy as pie on sticky hands at least.
Is this comment useful ? Is it the subject here ? 96 years old, and he's still standing, still present in his gym, still learning to students, a great man but humble in a simple life, that is ALL I see.
Martial arts isn't about picking fights, it's about teaching you confidence. Master IP Chun isn't preparing to stop anyone, he's using his knowledge to teach others for their futures.
hes almost 100 and still will kick most poeple asses
Im sorry but no. Anyone could beat him at his age. I have plenty of respect for Ip Chun, but Win Chun is not that good AT ALL. He's way too old to win a fight since he has no fight experience whatsoever. Sorry Shifu.

Yes tell deer tr to frfr regret yeah do g hi
I won't to lorn win chun
How is dat he never fought nobody.....??????
because everyone was afraid of his martial skills haha
I wouldn’t fight a guy if I knew his father was a legend
Wing Chun, at its core, AIN'T a martial art that one can go pick fights with (why do you think Bruce Lee invented Jeet Kune Do in the first place?). if you just take some time to look into the moves & principles, you'd see that it's a defense art for fighting big yet unskilled & very much stupid brutes who have their arms extended all the time in a fight. getting good in Wing Chun is just like getting good in Tai Chi, by knowing the intricacies & subtleties of the moves inside-out, NOT by winning actual fist fights.
It's just slow movement dats all.......ain't shitt
Ok so how is he a great kungfu master with no fighting at all does that prove you can still know how to fight even with out getting into a fight
does winning a hundred fights mean that eventually someone won't take you down...? what if they're seeming a lot weaker than you? All it really takes is a single split second of not paying attention, and a steady eye, to crush your trachea, and/or smash the back of your neck (or both) , inducing swelling of the throat, possibly breaking the neck, causing hemorrhaging , swelling, cutting off blood to the brain, air supply as it gradually swells worse, even if your neck doesn't break, there's a high chance of dying, ...even if you aren't fatally hit, it does not take a whole lot to fracture the base of the skull and paralyze you. .....This IS of course if somebody really wants you dead/ or you want to kill someone... I recommend you weigh out the repercussions of that before trying it. Fighting really is a fools game, because its usually when people are just acting a jackass that we have our worst accidents, with a strength that we don't know we possess. Its less refined.
Your statement proves that you have no idea what 'kung fu' means in the first place.

HONG KONG
HELLO KITTY 😸😸
Yo he said he's never been into a fight in his life..... There's no way he knows anything concerning physical conflict with another man.. So if the gets into the ring with a ufc trained skilled fighter, he's 100% going to lose, just think about it. He's never been punched in his face and scooped on his head. Lol I promise you he's going to forget years worth of faking and instant realization
He never really sees wing chun as a combat style anyways, it's just something he does to stay fit
Well you true tho he had skill he just dont have the pysical like most of martial art actor we know probably know martial art but of course would lose with ufc fighter since most of them dont have pysical like you know when you were a child an ant would hurt you but as you grow an ant bite would be just normal it the same for them , they just had skill but their body is not on ufc level
Sometimes you just need people to pass down tradition, even if they don’t master it. It doesn’t mean they don’t know how
Rico Savage why would he want to fight?
He clearly stated Wing Chun should be for health no need to be a dick.
@@changlu8891 I'm sure if you have a man that trains hard in wing Chun he can mix it in other forms of fighting, Bruce Lee did. If he trains hard he can use many of the aspects of wing Chun with street fighting and beat the crap of of many of those MMA savages.
Master IP is a great liar. Long life to his family and lineage in Martial Art
Im sorry but no. Anyone could beat him at his age. I have plenty of respect for Ip Chun, but Win Chun is not that good a martial art... AT ALL!!! He's way too old to win a fight since he has no fight experience whatsoever. Sorry Shifu.
@Indigo V What does your comment have anything to do with mine. Who said anyone would beat him up. Stop making assumptions. I have watched his older videos.I am talking about his martial art from a self defense perspective in comparison to others martial arts. I never said anything about toughness. Read Again before making presumptuous comments like that.
@Indigo V I didnt mouth off anyone. I said that his age is the reason isnt as formidable as people may think and the martial art isn't the best self defense compared to other martial arts for a man of that age to protect him self
@@Jdxpert4z you’d be surprised at how fast he moves. Have you seen the store manager scene in the movie ip man? Look that up and then speak.
@@ihopeyoustubyourtoe3866 Ok he's fast but my point still stands he has good technique but it wouldnt work well in a fight with a person who does mauy thai or wrestling or something else. I never said he was slow or bad at wing chun. My point is that the technique is more of a dance AND THIS IS A MOVIE.
@@ihopeyoustubyourtoe3866 Plus the faster parts where backround stuntmen. he still looks and moves great for his age.
Wing Chung is a totally useless martial art. They never do sparring, so once they get hit they panic and training gets forgotten. If a wrestler or a boxer fought a wing chung master, the master would get quickly ko or the wrestler would shoot for his hips slam him them choke him out
its not the martial arts thats useless its the person using it if they dont know how to fight and adapt to what the opponent does. any style of martial arts can be good or bad if the person using it is good or bad
No experience fighting @ all. He's never used any WC that he's learned.
