Great content! I miss visiting Hong Kong so much. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into the yummy goodness of Hong Kong cuisine.
Thanks for watching! More videos coming soon!
Lovely British accent and good food. Instant subscription and like👍🏽
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Another great vid thanks Sam! Can’t wait to visit Win kee noodles in the future, hopefully it won’t be too long. Good work Sam👍
Thanks for watching! Hopefully travel become feasible soon!
Love your videos! Please keep making more! They remind me so much of home
Glad these videos bring back memories Timothy, more to come soon!
Hi Sam, we love your videos. They give us something to look forward to for when we can finally get back to visit Hong Kong from Australia. We love getting some char Sui from the local bbq place around the corner from our aunties house in Happy Valley. Perhaps you could do a segment on Chinese bbq. It would be great to add somewhere to the list for our next visit. Happy new year, we look forward to your future videos.
Hi Marcus, thank you for the kind words, and glad you're enjoying the channel! Char siu is one of our favourites as well, and that's a great idea that we'll consider for an upcoming video. Until then, we visit a char siu place in the Wan Chai video that you can find here: czcams.com/video/YZoQurOgwyo/video.html ... Enjoy!
Actually it's been existed for more than 30 years. They used to be in the small alley in the other block of the street behind where they are right now, just a cart with a few tables in the alley. Thanks for the wave of good review from the tourists, they have moved to the current shop. Their broth are one of the best.
Thank you for the information!
Cannot agree more - I had it since 18yrs now 60. Broth nowhere in the world.
Thanks Sam, I left HK right in February 2020. Been dying to go back when the restrictions ease so these videos make it a bit better for now 🤠
Thanks for watching and glad the videos help! Hopefully it won't be too long now before it's possible to travel freely again!
Love your videos. I lived in HK when I was a child and have memories of some of the places you feature. I really enjoyed your Hoods series. The effort you put in on showing more of the city than what a tourist might experience is appreciated. Watching them brought me closer to my hometown. I am enjoying this series, too. I am a proud HKer and love food. I can almost taste the brisket, egg tarts, noodles, etc. If I were to go back, I will definitely use your videos to reference all the places I need to eat at! Good work.
Thank you very much Teresa for watching and for the extremely kind words! We’re glad you’re enjoying the channel, and the ‘Hoods series isn’t over, and we will be adding to it in the future (in fact, it’s very possible that our next episode will be the original format). Also glad you’re enjoying our food segments; it’s out pleasure to be able to uncover all these hidden gems and help rekindle connections with Hong Kong 🇭🇰
Love listening to foreigners speak Cantonese and talk about my local food! Very nice!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it!
Randomly stumbled on your channel. This is awesome! I love Hong Kong
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
OMG!! You follow this channel too Mama Lam? Sam has done a great job exploring food/culture in HK!! Btw, I learned how to make crispy pork by airfryer from your channel last year... so thanks again!!! ^^
Thanks for making these videos! Miss HK street food from states!
Thanks for the support!
Blowing up, dude! Thanks for the great videos as always. I believe lo bak is just the Cantonese name for Daikon, which I love. Glad you at least gave it a try haha
Thanks for watching man, and for the kind words as always. Yeah, we’ve got some great traction with this episode, and I think you’re absolutely right about the daikon! Hope you and the family are all well 😊
Sam, I binged watched your fine vlogs while toughing out the tail end of a Covid episode. You and your team has simply created superb stories Of one of the most remarkable human experiences that is Hong Kong! I wish you great success and hope that your efforts will contribute to the perseverance of this unique culture. CERTainly, the videos unleashed a floodgate of nostalgia on my part.
73-year old man; 52 HK immigrant to the US, near San Francisco
Thank you so much for watching and for the very kind words, we appreciate it a lot! We are glad that our videos bring back memories and even evoke nostalgia for you, and of course, we hope to be able to keep doing them for as long as possible. I did a year abroad at UC Santa Cruz, loved California/Monterey Bay/ SF Bay area!
When I was a student, I had cart noodles everyday. It can be cheap and good taste, and you can eat less or more depending on whether you need to save money for PS5 or keep fit.
Thanks for watching and for the comment! Haha yes, the choice between the food and the PS5 must have been a tough one!
Thanks for your video. Its my first time to watch your video...we are from HK , but currently move to UK...yes, we do miss HK food so much! Enjoy!
Thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying the videos!
I’m so glad I came across your channel. You’re making miss Hong Kong so much but I’m looking fwd to visiting again and will definitely visit the places in your videos. Keep the videos coming, you gained another subscriber! Stay safe and healthy 🙏🏻

Found your channel from algo 😬
I have to say even I'm a local myself, watching you do the vids about the food, the culture of hong kong it's oddly satisfying I have to admit.
Keep up the great work❤️
Thank you for the support. More videos coming soon!
thumb up your video though i hadn't eaten these noodles quite a long time. your video reminded me some forty years ago, these kind of noodle is very delicious.
Glad you enjoyed and that this video brought back memories!
OMG, Wing Kee, that's one of my favourite cart noodle in HK, I can really feel the enjoyment while watching you eating. It's one of my "must eat" if I bypass there. I finished all the soup every time. :). Hopefully can come back to HK soon :(
Thank you for watching and glad this inspired you. Hopefully travel to HK is made easy again soon!
Love your videos
Thanks for watching 🙏💪
Cart Noodles is one of the significant local foods that must try when you are in HK, good shot !!!
Agreed and thanks for watching!
Another great video. While I grew up in Hong Kong I never had cart noodles before , so I need to try it next time. I did so research on cart noodles in 2021 and this place never came up. I am so glad you introduce the place . The food looks great. Btw you may want to update that this is the original store n there is another one also in Causeway Bay.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words Tim. We definitely recommend checking this place out, the food is indeed delicious!
Thanks for sharing, your food making me hungry...lol, Sam.. ❤❤👍👍😄😄😀😀
Thanks for watching and glad these videos inspire your appetite! 😋
Thanks for the translation
Thanks for watching!
Love Wing Kee flavour so much!! Miss HK🥲🥲
Thanks for watching!
That’s good to have a western people trying the very local food in HK. There are many places have many good foods. Have you tried HK milk tea, egg tart?
They are the most traditional food & drink in HK.
Thank you for watching and for the suggestions. We love milk tea and egg tarts, and may include them in upcoming videos!
Looking good in shape, hope the new year has good things for you to offer!
Thanks for the kind words, and same hopes for you too!
beef brisket radish chitterlings cuttlefish and chicken wing tips are delicioussss!!!!!!
Agreed. So good!
I love Hong Kong especially its foods. Hong Kong have so....much goodies er.. so much so much... I subscribed and stay tune.
Thank you so much. More food videos coming soon!
I love cart noodles too! Curry fishball and pigskin(?) is my favorite
Excellent choice!
Found this channel through the YT algorithm. Sam, love your videos, cinematography, storytelling, and the focus on the local mom and pop stores of HK! Subscribed :)
Thank you Danny and welcome to the channel!
As someone from HK originally I love your vids!
Thank you, more coming soon!
You are really know how to order cart noodle👍油麵is a must item. Next time try some pig skin and blood cube
Thank you Derick! And cheers for the tip- will definitely try to remember that recommendation for next time!
I totally agree, The best noodle i have had in hkg n i was born in hkg. Each time i back to hkg, I must eat once or two.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Definitely a must have when in HK!
Happy New Year Sam. Another great video. I seem to have missed out on pretty much everything in Causeway Bay when I was there 😄.
Can I suggest a hotpot video of where to get it, how to order and eat it please?
Happy New Year to you too Darren. Hotpot is an idea we're actually in the process collaborating with another YTer on, and I'll be sure to post the links on this channel when it comes to fruition. There are so many hole-in-the-wall places in Causeway Bay it's easy to miss them! :D
Love how you dissect first before you eat
Thank you for watching!
good video mate
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Food looks good! Thanks for sharing
Highly recommended!
Lots of respect to you for actually trying all these different foods! I have English colleagues who only eat Subway and McDonald's when they stay in Hong Kong and don't even dare try the local cuisine. Such a wasted opportunity I say! One of my all time favourites in Hong Kong is their beef brisket soup rice and beef brisket noodles, as well as curry beef brisket. Do you think you could hunt down the best places for these as I'm a huge beef brisket fan!
Thanks for another very kind comment! I agree that it's a completely wasted opportunity to come to Hong Kong and stick to western fast foods! So much can be learned and enjoyed about the culture when you dig into the local delicacies, especially here where they are so yummy! Thanks for the suggestion on beef brisket. We'll look into it!
whoa stumbled upon this channel somehow, enjoying the sam eats it series! Great stuff. Consider having a sam's rating at the end of every video? justa thought
Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching! A rating system is something we’ve thought about and continue to consider for future episodes.
This looks so good! I love Chinese noodle soups.
Definitely a solid choice if you find yourself in HK’s Causeway Bay neighbourhood! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Translation will be useful to know how to order too! 👍
Thanks for watching and hope it helps!
Looks delicious
It certainly was!
Thanks Sam , that is my childhood when I was still in Hong Kong. Now I get stuck in here for only three kinds of food. Canned, Frozen and of course Instant. Sometime it really make me think , did I make a right choice ?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the comment… and I hate to say it, but your three food diet now doesn’t sound quite as delicious as hot pot! 😆
For me, it's all about the tripe options. As you'd be aware, tripe largely disappeared when mad cow hit the UK and even now, it isn't that common in Chinatown. Tripe, chitlins and turnip is my combo, with brisket sauce in the soup.
I'd have to agree that the tripe options are... offaly good ;D
Super video and very informative. I've not had cart noodles in such a long time, for me cart noodles is more of a seaside/beach meal. Lol. 美味齋 is a sweet and sour vegetarian topping. I will seek out cart noodles when I'm next in town. Keep up the great videos.
I think this version of 美味齋 is not sweet and sour… still really good!
(美味齋 is a version of fried wheat gluten 炸麵筋, commonly seen in the traditional/old styled vegetarian restaurants where they cook it in curry or sweet and sour sauce)
Thank you Kandice!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words Joby, and your help on the translation is much appreciated!
Its basically choose your own noodle with a range of meat and veggie sides you can choose from to add to your main noodle staple. Hong Kong's answer to Singapore's yong tau foo!
Thanks for watching, and yes!
Kung Hei Fat Choy Sam 🎉 i miss Hong Kong eat and shopping i love HK ♥️
Thank you and Kung Hei Fat Choy to you too!
excellent recommendation Sam, i am sure this shop is the MOST popular and well-liked noodle shop in Hong Kong. You also researched and tell us details of the history and traditions of the HK Cart Noodles , really appreciate that !! All in all, I can say that you are down to earth and very realistic with eating FACTs, I trust you more than i trust those Michilin recommendations !
Thank you as always Johnson for your great comment. This shop is so popular there is almost always a long line outside of it, but luckily the service is fast, so you never have to wait long outside. The history of cart noodles was fun to learn and it is my pleasure to include these bits of knowledge in the videos. Thank you for your very kind compliment!
Good video, cart noodle is my memory in childhood, that time is cheap cost HK$10 and we can save the rest of our money to go video game.
Thanks for watching and glad this video brought back some good childhood memories!
Cart Noodles can truly represent hongkonger because of its freedom to choose anything you want. Especially nowadays, our freedom is growing restricted.
Thanks for watching!
Yes delicious yummy noodles
Thanks for watching!
be honest Hong Kong really a food heaven indeed since i also travelling around the world but HK dish have always been my favourite even I'm Hongkonger
Agreed!
u should def try their chilly oil!! one of the most signature thing there.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video, Sam! Takes me back to when I lived for a while in CWB. Just realized I haven’t been back in over 6 years, makes me miss if even more! Side bar, don’t they have like an english menu in Wing Kee anymore? I distinctly remember the had one which included what kind of noodles you can get too.
Thanks for watching and for the very kind words, really glad you enjoyed the vid and that it brought back memories for you! Yes, Wing Kee do have an English menu, but you have to request it, and the translations in there were a little confusing in some cases. If you know what you’re after though it shouldn’t be a problem!
well, this shop I've never heart before, seems good~ I waiting for you promote Yuen Long one day~ you know... the most localize food and some creative function will find out on there~
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel! Yuen Long is a good idea. We like it there.
This vlog was crisp but so on point. The explanation was clear especially the individual and together philosophy. Ha ha. I enjoyed watching it and I shall remember to go to this cart noodles resturant in Causeway Bay on my next visit to Hong Kong.
Thanks as always Satish for your great comment. Glad you enjoyed it, and definitely head there when you can! :)
Yummy yummy
Definitely!
delicious
Thanks for watching!
Hi Sam, you need to take the soup as well. It's so delicious
Agreed, the soup is indeed very delicious!
Please do a video on fish ball noodles or beef brisket noodles. Another famous spot is the tomato instant noodles in central! No shortage of content ideas!! Subscribed :) I miss HK!
Great recommendations! Do you happen to know the names of any of the places for tomato instant noodles?
@@HongKongHoods
This is the one I've been to which I understand to be rather famous but there may be others: Sing Heung Yuen (勝香園)
@@HongKongHoods and obviously you’ve been there!! Just made it to your Dai pai dong video
Most interesting, adventurous food trial for foreigners...If you try this, you are able to accept any others...coz so many funny or weird toppings on noodles..
Thanks for watching and very true, Cary noodles are eclectic and a great choice for visitors to HK!
support !
Thank you!
"美味齊" is vegetarian delight, Sam. I believe that usually means deep-fried tofu puffs on a cart noodle menu. Love your videos. Stay safe and Happy New Year!
Not tofu puffs, but wheat gluten/mocked meat.
@@John-K-N Then I believe is fermented bean curd stick.
@@kurlexchoi Ah, yes, that could very well be.
Thank you for the help, John. I've inputted the information. Thanks as always for watching and your kind words, and Happy New Year to you too!
I think it is protien of wheat aka gluten instead of Tofu kind.
it is one of the famous cart noodle in hong kong, the soup is very delicious and the food are fresh, you have to try pig skin and white carrot . also the chicken wing is a MUST!! the soy source is the best .
Excellent recommendations!
@@HongKongHoods i did try another taiwan style noodle in Kwun Tong, highly recommend you can try , the restaurant called "Wu Yue Xing Beef Noodle Restaurant"
HK dim sum, BBQ, needles, stir-fry.... 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
So much good food!
Have you try the Hong Kong style cooking of Omelet yet? It’s very good! You can pick the meat you like. I really miss to eat the dim sum chicken feet and pork ribs yummy 🤤
That’s a great suggestion Deb! Yes, tried an omelette in a couple of HK Cha Chaan tengs- I love them with char soy!
Thank you for reply to my message.👍
Good vid. Regards from Malaysian utuber
Thanks as always!
Go give a try at Noodle Supreme 麵尊 in sheung wan!! Love their spicy & curry sauce both very yum. I believe they have a branch in causeway bay too. But I checked it on open rice their eng names were diff. Not 100% sure they are related or not. Anyway, please go give a try!! Hope you will like it!!
Thanks for the tip! That sounds wonderful!
Dude, this is yummy. Fast, most available and definitely cheap 😜😜😜
It was so delicious! This place is very authentic HK grub… definitely recommend!
Rickety Noodle Shop
15 Nelson Street Mongkok ,if its still there, best beef brisket noodles I've tasted
Thank you for the suggestion, will make a note of it for next time I’m in MK
I am jealous that you can eating all the yummy foods from Hong Kong! But I can just watch all the videos showing all the good foods that I Am not able to eat them it’s bummer 🤷♀️😋😋😋😏
Hopefully you can visit HK in the not too distant future… and enjoy all the food that’s on offer here! Thanks for watching
Well
Thanks!
👍👍👍👍👍
🙏😊
西方人嘅口味真係特別,車仔麵呢d雪藏味精嘢都去試
Thanks for watching!
hey sam, can you try the 50 year old oldest still handmade dim sum "hole in the wall" store run in sheung wan? It's so good there
Thanks for the tip. Do you know the name of the place?
@@HongKongHoods saam hui yaat. Had to dig up my google map history
@@HongKongHoods It's pretty good. Reminds me of the dimsum in guangdong and guangzhou
I can see the historical noodle bowl colored by the beef Broth for 30 years ..
Let's just say the broth has left its mark!
I noticed Sam have some green veggies "Yau Choi Sum" in his bowl not listed in his translated menu. As for the noodles itself, I believe is egg noodles he is eating and don't know how many types of noodles Wing Kee Shop used for their recipes??
Thank you for watching! Yes, the choi came automatically in our bowl, a nice, healthy touch. And yes, those are egg noodles, although other noodle types (6 in total) including vermicelli noodles, rice noodles, and flat rice noodles.
@@HongKongHoods The veggies you had were 通菜/蕹菜, water spinach/water morning glory in English.
Mmmmm😮
T’was yummy indeed. Highly recommend!
Chank,s
Thank,s
👍
💜💜💜
Thanks for watching!
U need try chilly oil with that !!
Thanks for the tip!
excellent translation!!! just one more word
*魚皮餃 fish dumplings * is fish skin dumplings
Thank you! Adjusted!
@@HongKongHoods brilliant channel... I subscribed yesterday.
I miss the food in Hong Kong...And family of course
I think for Non-Chinese, they will be turned off with the translation as fish skin dumplings, perhaps another translation would be fish dumplings with fish added to the dough wrapper. Please adjust accordingly.
@@timwong2828 why would you adjust the translation just because it might put people off?
Your translation doesn't make sense and it isn't what it is
My input is exactly what it is in English and in Chinese and is exactly what the food is
Try HoChe Noodles!
Thanks for the tip!
Indeed, I like it’s noodles. Who told you?
Must have been the noodle gods!
@@HongKongHoods
There are better ones, but they don't want to be advertised.
love your videos, but i would argue that Sham Shui Po has better cart noodles :p
Thanks for watching and commenting- is there any particular place in SSP that you go to for cart noodles?
Try Conggee in HK . The best please we can find
Excellent suggestion!
Did you try their chilli sauce, burning hot
I did, and indeed it was 🔥
Hk basically newyork but imo better food but thats subjective bc i love Cantonese food
That’s a really good analogy! I believe that at one time or another, Hong Kong was dubbed “the New York of the East”- haven’t been to NY in many years, but I should imagine there are some stark similarities
@HongKongHoods Thank you !!! So Long story short, me n my mom are American, bio dad died when I was 2 years old, mom ended up dating a Cantonese man, he was 17 when him & his family migrated to American from Hong kong when he was 17, he knew no English and graduated HS (not ged) within a year, I'm 38 now & it's been a amazing life to be able to see this side of culture, so much good food & dim sum omg & tea, I can never get enough of Cantonese cooking, my Cantonese grandparents still alive & are just amazing cooks, I just cannot cook like them no matter how many years being in the kitchen watching my grandmother cook, it's a whole another level, anyways I could talk for hours but thank you & love your channel ❤️ 💙 ♥️

Cart Noodle AKA "Dirty Noodle" like in Stephen Chow movie God of Cookery
Thanks for watching! Haven’t seen that one but will bear it in mind.
@@HongKongHoods well beside being a comedy movie it did have a few famous street food and common diner dish in there like the fishball, and a bowl of Char siu rice at the near end
CAT NOODLES, hadn't had me some in nearly twoooo whole weeks.
We love cart noodles, and think you need some more!
Damn, trying not to salivate too much while watching this video.
Get a napkin Bri!
The best cart noodle is in Bowrington Road Cooked Food Centre
Thanks for the tip, will bear that in mind next time we're in that area.
When I was a child in 1950, my family was very poor. We can only ate the end of chicken wing, which has very little meat. We were poor.🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your experience!
I think the thing you call low bak is turnip, not radish. But just a minor quibble.
The translation of the actual vegetable varies, with some referring to it as Chinese radish, and others Chinese turnip. It's basically the same as a Japanese radish, or daikon.
Hardly the best, only good for its fame. I live near there and won’t even bother eating there at all
Thanks for your opinion. Please let us know what you think about the places we visit in our other videos.
In the old days, Cart noodles have other name, dirty noodle. Relax. There won't be any hygiene problem today. Only elders may call it that name.
Thank you for sharing that, I didn't know it was once referred to as that!
