    its funny ive been a game artist for 20 plus years. alot of the work i used to do by hand in photoshop this thing does so much easier its very satisfying to see and use it. the transformations and cloning and cropping is so much nicer when your getting all the channels at the same time updated. this is extremely powerful stuff. i took some time to learn substance designer and its amazing however as a level artist i dont have hours to deal with nodes so this puts material creation back in my wheel house again. thanks and please keep evolving the workflow because speed in production is EVERYTHING these days.

    Sweet, Makes Photoshop and even Designer almost irrelevant for image based material creation. Smart thinking keeping it subscription based to cover the losses elsewhere as its almost too efficient in its streamlining of the process. I'm sold.

      @marsmotion Před 3 lety +6

      @@boomshroomgoonmoon your value as an artist isnt about realistic vs stylized. its how you see the world as a visually sophisticated informed creative person. over time the functions of artists and what they are needed for will change but the idea of someone who is visually trained doing work to enhance a product environment or service is eternal. 50 years from now that is still essentially needed. your average person can make art but not good art. same with high tech tools and automation. 2cts

    I would take that photo into Photoshop and use the filter other offset. Then use the clone tool to get rid or change what’s on the borders so it’s seamless. I do get that there are benefits to some of the processes (specifically what gets rid of the cast shadows), but most of this can be done by hand. Alchemist does do a really good job on building the form and the separate maps that would combined into the rendering software.

    I'm using photo scanning with alchemist entirely for my indie game for 4k terrain textures with POM.. the results are staggering. Auto Tile Advanced mixed with Clone Patch makes anything look great. Check your normals and your height map to make sure they are correct sometimes the AI will invert the normal map or the height map when calculating. You can easily tick Invert normal to fix it if it's incorrect and then do Normal to Height. Went for a walk with my 4k camera on my phone and took about 20 pictures. Processed a few in Designer to bake in some HBAO but most were AI scan in alchemist with some clone patch and auto-tile and in-game they look insane. Hard to imagine I could bake up 20 AAA textures and variations for texture clustering (60 textures) in about an hour. I'll never touch game dev without substance workflow.

    • @Substance3D
      @Substance3D  Před 2 lety

      The issue is that the AI method doesn't really deal well with photos that already tile. The solution is to bring in raw, unprocessed photos that don't tile yet, and do the tiling in Sampler. We'll fix this at some point, but no eta.
