Also - he said in an interview (or maybe it was an AMA on Reddit) that this was his least favorite bit to perform, just because he had to practice it so many times to get the timing right. He got super sick of it.
Lol regarding the Godzilla bit, it literally means nothing. He did an interview a while back where he said when he was workshopping what. in its early stages he thought the bit was dumb and nearly cut it, but his friends thought it was too funny and that it should remain. So he kept it in.
Came here to say the same. no need to read too much into it haha
I'm glad the Godzilla part was left in. There's something about the voice freaking out over the fact that it's singing that cracks me up every time.
@@philsilverthorn for me it's his little ball-change-spin that cracks me up
Which interview was that?
@@Jacky-sw6jx God if I can remember haha. I want to say it was his AMA? But I could be totally wrong
Bo to the girl on the receiving end of his prolonged eye contact:
"Don't be scared. Don't be shy. Come on in, the waters fine."
This is maybe my favorite Bo segment of all time. Itâs just so random and weird but also demonstrates his musical and theatrical proficiency. Just amazing. The dude came onto stage wearing 3 pairs of pants, a deck of cards and confetti in his pocket and a mouth full of water. đ€Ł
And to quote problematic:
"I wrote offensive shit and i said it, father please forgive me" etc etc
The sound production of this special is just incredible.
I love the genius of choosing to start with the video of him as a little kid, showing that pretty much since he could walk he's had a camera/audience asking him to sing a song and perform. Also, I will never fail to be impressed by his ability to hold a mouthful of water while dancing around on stage for several minutes!
Hey! Excited to see you react to this special!! It's a little cruder than make happy, but still amazing, I absolutely love it.
Here's my suggestion for how the special could be divided up:
7:44 - 14:00
14:00 - 20:00
20:00 - 26:00
26:00 - 30:01
30:01 - 37:07
37:07 - 41:31
41:31 - 47:16
47:16 - 52:30
52:30 - end
They don't all have songs, but I didn't want to give anything away by giving a short description of what the bits are.
Vouch on this one, pretty much hands down on the way to do it
Timestamps just for you :)
Edit : added jokes descriptions
Lots of skits in this one, not sure what you wanna do with them, maybe include a bit in each video? not sure.
If I missed anything, please tell me.
A World on Fire/sad 9:43 -14:13
Jokes (IFS + Slow joke + What did I do last night? + WDMMFDGSTM? GD) 14:13 - 20:00
Left Brain + Right Brain 20:00 - 26:06
#Deep 26:06 - 30:05
More Jokes (Beating off + Poems) 30:05 - 37:16
From Godâs Perspective 37:16 - 41:47
Even more jokes (Women + Andy the frog + Father + Old man) 41:47 - 47:17
Repeat Stuff 47:17 - 52:41
We Think We Know You 52:41
Such a good intro to a show. I don't mind the crude humor at all. I've always enjoyed some shock comedy
Oh, I'm all for it. Excited to see the rest!
No this is Boâs second hour long special. His first is called âWords Words Wordsâ itâs not on netflix though
what. is so good. I highly recommend Eff, Channel 5 News: The Musical and Nerds as I don't believe they're in the special.
And 'hell of a ride' don't forget that masterpeice :)
@@charltonnewman2242 yes I was gonna say that
Since you're watching in reverse. The beginning of Make Happy had a guy dressed up like he was in What. Turns out in Make Happy it was some random guy pretending to be him as he set it up as such.
Yep!
And I'm back! Notice anything different?
Reaction starts at 01:52
Welcome back! (You've been missedâŠđ)
So that's the preparation you had to finish before going into "What."! I was wondering what you meant by that and was like "Don't he just need to put on some shorts and sit in front of his computer?".đ Does getting the new camera mean you no longer have to rely on "artificial idiocy" to defocus the background?âŠđ I don't know how the sound quality compares to the previous one but the new mic at least looks better.đ
Exactly!
@@ChrisReactsToThings That can have some creative advantagesâŠđ€ You're aware we'd still recognise you without the cap, right?âŠđ Or is the hat already a part of the "Chris from Chris Reacts" personal brand?đ
This whole miming sequence, as well as others throughout the show, are based on Tim Minchin's "So Fucking Rock", which is in turn based on Rowan Atkinson's invisible drum kit sketch
I do think some of the stuff in this special is deliberately nonsensical, and meant to make you go âwhat.â But itâs interesting to see you try to find meaning in it!
Also, it seems like you made the connection yourself, but the Make Happy intro was definitely a reference to this one. He had someone else dressed up the same as he was in this intro in order to fake people out.
dont try and look too deep into the songs for "what." while it does have deeper meaning behind the lyrics it's not like that most of the time
Oh this is gonna be a fun journey! So excited. Might be my favorite of the non-Inside specials. I always think of that âdance, monkey, danceâ part during the Kanye Rant at the âI should just shut up and do my job, so here I goâ part. The dancing even seems similar to me.
Oh fuck yes. âWhatâ is my favorite piece of Boâs work. Youâll love it.
words words words would still be nice as its got a lot of bops
However, please go through his 4 songs from the "What" Album. Nerds, Channel 5 News, Eff, Hell of a Ride. They are like actual studio songs that still have a lot of comedy bits. Very clever
What is definitely a bit more crude like you said, but it's still very clearly intelligent Bo writing and in my opinion easily his funniest special. It's also probably the one I've watched the most times so definitely looking forward to going through it with you :). Also, for some reason, the "It's so hard to be a lizard" mini-song gets stuck in my head all the time...
Quick question, when you were reacting to Make Happy, why can't I find the part with "Rob's Mom"? Did you not watch the whole thing?
He saw it but skipped it. He mentions why in the video about the segment after
Iâd say what. has FAR less perceived hidden meaning than his later specials. Itâs way more wacky for wackyness sake
Honestly that makes things a bit easier for me đ
Maybe Bo understood that to most people watching What would be their intro to him. Might be why also explains a few of the jokes like "sluts". He knew people needed to learn who he was. Smart.
Iâve typically found his specials get less funny and more artistic and deep with each one. This one is just showing a classic, weird, over-the-top Bo in his unnatural habitat.
I like the blue and green lights they look so nice , looks like a cool twitch stream set up for gaming
I saw somewhere that Words Words Words is like the death of art, and what. is death of meaning, make happy is trying to create meaning from doubts and nothing and inside is pure reflection, where all the things dont have to be meaningful to get peace of mind, and is ok to question stuff
You're right to pick up on the contractual obligation! We don't have to be celebrities to understand that. I volunteered in my kids' kindergarten class, because I enjoyed it. But , if I had to do it, as a job, I would have hated it!! I think we can all relate, on some level!
I read a review of this special that said something like -- "his talent and ambition has outpaced his life experience". He wrote the material and workshopped it live between the ages of 19 and 22. That's why a lot of the material is crude/childish and the more meaningful pieces are about things he's struggled with his whole life. By Make Happy and Inside, he'd become so tuned into modern culture that he could include some great satire in his comedy.
13:55 "... from Godzilla's perspective" BRUH
I have watched your entire bo burnham journey- you are my favorite reactor!! Thanks for your vulnerability with the heavier material and your joy with the comedy. Always love hearing your take. Wish you the very best.
The "prolonged eye contact" woman was probably not okay when she saw "All Eyes on Me" eight years later.
I just love Chris trying to rationalize the Godzilla bit lol
Love your reactions
Bo "dance monkey dance"
Chris "damn that deep"
I love the ending to this special! Iâve seen so many people react to it! Canât wait for yours!
I feel like "what" would have been more fun to see live than "make happy", but "make happy" is definetly more though-provoking.
i rlly appreciate ur reactions!! itâs always interesting to listen to ur thoughts on everything:) keep it up
the chapters be like

You really went all out, the video quality looks AMAZING. Keep it up my dude.
Miming is a lost art form for sure.
If youâve made it far enough to watch the other specials you might as well continue and watch Words Words Words. Itâs on paramount plus. Thereâs also a Comedy Central special that he did when he was 18 but itâs hard to find
iâve been WAITING for this one.
What. Is soooo goood
No one really mentions that the miming thing was pulled off wonderfully. It's a lengthy song and as always he performs perfectly on que for the whole thing
Been waiting for this so, yay! Your room looks great!
I saw him perform this live in Dallas in 2010. Such a great special. Even got to meet him afterwards. Canât wait to see what you think of the special
This was his 3rd special actually im pretty sure, he came out on youtube in 2007, then in 2008 got a 30 min special on comedy central that a lot of people in the late 2000s got, after that he got another hour special on comedy central which was words words words, and then the netflix deal comes in at the same time he releases what for free on youtube to âreturn to the internetâ so to speak
Love the new setup! Keep it coming. I like your reactions because you can tell it's genuine!
I remember when I was in high school this was peak comedy. Also, I think this special was the first one to become⊠viral? I guess Iâll use that word. I mean, Iâm not from the US, and this was definitely the first piece of Boâs work that me and my friends watched.
WHAT!
seriously so glad you are going on to the next Bo special. I missed you for the last few days. Will be excited to see how it goes.
I love the energy in this special so much.
This special was my intro to him back when I was in in high school. Still one of my favorite comedy specials of all time.
WoW, guy, I like your new setup, congratulations of that and the motivation to make it happen, Might I suggest having something on the wall behind you something of interest to you that kind of goes with the theme of your show.
I do really enjoy your reactions, much more detailed than what others do, you like to dive in deep, maybe too deep at times, but that's OK, it's your thing so just do you.
I think the one common theme is all of Bo's material is that it makes everyone think more deeply, everyone has basically different perspectives and no one is right, their is of course a general consensus but that's not always right either. I neither agree or disagree with you on your thoughts and reactions, I just really like that you take it deeper than most. so good on you man. keep up the great work and hey "Make Happy"
its gets so much better from here!!
Woah!! New setup, Only OGs will remember the critikal room lmao
Love the setup!
YESSSS THANK YOU!
Love the new set up đđŒ
I've always appreciated how he holds that water in his mouth the whole time on stage through the into. It's pretty damn funny
Great Setup Chris, it's gonna be fun seeing how you like this special! It may not be "as" groundbreaking as Inside but it's still a very special special in its own special way lol. Still very creatively produced but with a whole lot more crude humor basically.
The new setup is fire! Love the lights and the new camera and mic! Awesome upgrades, dude.
I think this guy reads into his stuff a little much, probably since he came off of watching inside which has a little more meaning
The video looks great. The upgrades were definitely worth it!
You're gonna be in for a hell of a ride!
I'm so ready for these reactions đ„
Yay! Missed your videos.
Yeeees, let's unpack another one đ
I never look to this part of the show that way, great analysis!
After watching this intro, rewatch the intro to make happy and it's so much better.
nice!!! this is my favorite
Been waiting for this one.
CONGRATS ON THE NEW EQUIPMENT đđ intrested to see where the channel goesđ
New cam looks C R I S P
"from Godzilla's perspective" foreshadowing?
You're watching all his shows in reverse order. you're going to have to watch them all again in the right order to really get everything
Bruh
here we go
âwhatâ makes me so happy
âFrom Godzillaâs Perspectiveâ DUDE
You could do some tier list videos, on Boâs songs or other stuff obviously
YEA, he's back
!
Donât worry too much. There are still some very introspective songs in this special too.
Love this.
Please react to his songs "Art is Dead" and "Are you Happy"! I'd really love to hear your thoughts on them!
Itâs here!
I like the new scenario.
Liking the lens; it's got a really good depth-blur filter on it, that makes it hard to see the seams in the algorithm.
...but for reals, it looks like a 4" focal plane, there, so you must have an aperture set faster than 2.8. Am a fan.
Sony a6400 with sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens! Good eye
@@ChrisReactsToThings And 16mm APSC is ~24mm full frame equivalent, which would have been my guess. Great combo.
You should MOST DEFINITELY watch Words, Words, Words. It's his first comedy special and it really is great. Especially considering Bo was only 18 at the time.
Personally not my favorite special especially when compared to Make Happy or Inside, but it still has a lot of great songs and some funny bits. Definitely more on the goofy side. I prefer Boâs dark, sort of serious/douchy stage persona more than his silly, over-the-top persona. Still worth a watch!
Let's GO !!
When you're through with the Bo stuff do you have any plans for what you'll do going forward?
Every time you said Dance monkey I just thought of the Song Dance Monkey by Tones and I.
9:40 World on Fire/Sad
14:17 I Fuck Sluts (a poem, but could be fun to react to if you want)
17:45 What Did I do Last Night (very short)
20:00 Left Brain, Right Brain (looking forward to your input)
26:05 #Deep
30:15 an acting skit, with music but no singing
33:05 Reading short poems from his book Egghead
37:15 God's Perspective (also looking forward to you input)
42:18 Its Time For a Story/Andy the Frog
47:35 Repeat Stuff
52:40 We Think We Know You (Finale)
This special is tied with Inside for my favorite of his so far. Though, this special is quite crude like you had noticed already. A lot of this content isn't going to be very family friendly haha.
I really look forward to your videos, you're very unique and have a thoughtfulness about you that makes your content more enjoyable to watch compared to a lot of reactions channels who would just laugh this special off without seeing and understanding the deeper meanings. Just know that you are appreciated. You give me something to look forward to, these videos are relaxing and entertaining and it's fun to watch someone enjoy it for the first time. Thank you for this channel and everything you're doing with it. I love your new mood light too :P
Loved your reaction to Make happy. Here is my breakdown on how I think you should watch What. from where you left off. If you want you could do the last two in one episode but it also works fine separate. I can't wait to see you react to the whole special :)

You got the rbg LEDs, you're a true egirl now.
8:00 so Bo is a cat (or a monkey?)đCats also love performing but don't always want the attention or to feel obligated to. I guess monkeys could be the same.
Time sure makes a difference when watching many old videos. You remember how chill but life-changing these were but sometimes old videos like these feel out of place. Strange how the surroudings & feelings change. I'm sure and I hope some younger people will still find some wisdom inbetween all the edginess.
When I was young so many things were left unspoken. Like mental health, sexuality and pretending your family is always perfect even if you needed help. Anyways, love old Bo and new Bo /
I love Bo.
13:55 from God(zilla)âs perspective
I feel like you can definitely overanalyze things sometimes bro hahah
its gonna to be daily or weekly?
Daily!
Ayeee
It would be cool if you reacted to the new Sleep Token album. Slaps
Donât do words words words. As a bo fan since around 2017, I like some of the songs from it of course, but itâs definitely his weakest and VERY not pc. Thereâs just some bad stuff in there, Iâd def recommend watch it on your own time.
Or react to a few select songs!
when you will get to "repet stuff" react to the clip version to because its very well made
Bo's therapist (that he should have if he doesn't xjsjcks) should watch your reaction vids to get some helpful insight
