- My friends, tonight we’re gonna take a look at how to make a square-tile pattern Zimmerit on German tanks. Making your own Zimmerit is a great way to customize your model and although it might take a few hours, it's a very satisfying process!

JAGDPANTHER BUILD INCOMING 😳😳
Finally another panzer kitty!
"I love your bathroom!"
"Thanks, it's German inspired."
Cue the JonTron "I dont like where this is going" meme
@@havokvladimirovichstalinov So, how about a shower? You go first
I'm glad to hear you were able to go for a walk. Sounds like you're mending well.
And this is how Uncle Night Shift introduces a completely new, full build project. 😉
Thumbs up just for „soviet bathroom“🤣🤣 Good to hear too you having a 1,5 hrs walk!
NOW I FIND MY RHYTHM! I just have to be awake at 2am to get fresh Uncle Nightshift content!
Even the time checks out! :)
I love the zimmerit how to's, they're a real confidence booster for a beginner like myself!
Yeah, im a beginner who makes my own parts... cause i loose them
@@jasoncp3257 I do the same, although I find it fun making my own parts
Looks good. One thing I’ve observed with the MAN grid patterns is that they seem to comprise double lines, as a deviation in one is matched by an identical deviation in one of the adjacent lines. I had assumed that this was due to using a tool with two prongs (I use one that I made from two sewing pins spaced with some scrap styrene) but Nacho Roces has suggested that the factory used a tool like a double pizza wheel, which makes sense for the full size vehicle. Either way, a tool that makes two lines at once replicates the appearance of the original and reduces the time to apply it to a model👍
Why we love uncle Night Shift, he spends hours on areas to create meticulous detailed weld beads and steel texture, which he then covers with a full layer of Zimmerit, again detailed meticulously. Displaying his masterly skills, eye for detail and patience, he reminds us of his almost annoying modesty. It is good to be modest uncle, but don’t rub it into the faces of us mere mortals! There are very few builders on YT that equal your skills and eye for detail.
I'm literally making a panther right now and I'm looking at reference photos that show this weird pattern and then you go and upload a video how to do it.... How perfect
OOHHHH BBOOII, a frikking Jagdpanther, i hope we will see more of that beauty
Guys get out your beers night shift posted a new video.
You have encouraged me to restart my hobby.i did not realise how far modelling has moved on.I was awake till 6-30ish checking this and that.It cost me a fortune updating my tools.Have purchased the new RFM Sherman, please, please build one.I need tips, and instruction.I will admit my credit card took a kicking in my local model shop.
Thank you so much for the inspiration.
😎❤✌
Not an armour modeller, but I build dioramas and this is giving me ideas for how to do swimming pool tiles!
You truly have the patience of a saint for doing that!!!! Great video
YES! He’s back! Hope you are doing better!
I’ve looked at this for 3 hours now, it’s beautiful
Your unpainted models are beautiful .All these photo etched details, the armour texture the weld beads and customisations make your unpainted models so eye pleasing. Plus I have an idea, the next time you build a Soviet tank maybe you should try a parade camo.It is something that is rarely seen in modeling.
And we will see, how to weather a freshly cleaned, tip-top painted tank. I like the idea, too. Maybe some decorated soldier?
@@oraszuletik It could be a guards unit tank.
When I get burned out of modeling (armor) . Papa nyt's post makes me motivated again.
Doesn't quite have the satisfaction of manufacturing real miniature Zimmerit coatings and applying them but it certainly looks the part :)
I greet from the Czech Republic, and I also build models from World War II mostly, my work is purely amateur, not professional, I just want to point out that I take your videos and the wisdom you say in them to heart, because I like to get advice from someone more experienced when this is exactly my hobby, so thank you for creating great videos I like you and I support you in that I wish you good luck✌️
Waffle shaped zimmerit coatings were almost specifically for the STUG-3, and extremely rare amongst other vehicles of Germany amongst the war. Other vehicles such as Jagdtigers and Tiger IIs used a single line zimmerit that circulates the entire tank.
The guy who needs to weather every tank to junk status loves perfectly symmetric zimmerit, wonders never cease
I've done it with two part epoxy. Application was harder, but the rest went basically as you walked thru. It was for a diorama featuring the last tank a buddy's Grandfather drove in WW2.
The story from the Vet about the scene was worth the price of building it.
Ah yes what a way to start the holidays.
Awesome technique and result - and as cherry on top on my absolute favorite ww2 tank. Really looking forward to the next parts in this series!
Terrific! I love how you can make every build special. Keep up the hard work, I can’t wait to see that paint job!
thanks for the video Uncle Nightshitf! So stoked to see the jagdpanther build!!
nice one Martin a perfect soviet bathroom, well done cheers.
Yes, zimmerit made with LOVE...👍👍
I was just about to start a project that I would be doing Zimmerit for. Just got the tools today and this video pops up.
I love coming home from school to your videos after a long week uncle, keep up the amazing work! ❤️
Great explanation with showing perfectly how to do it. Fantastic!
looks great, and the application is so simple!
The BEST zimmerit tutorial to date. Keep up this fantastic work.
You know these videos are good when your an aircraft modeler but you still watch all of them.
Really Nice! I have been researching many methods to make convincing zimmerith, including napkings! Thanks for your class.
Def wanna try this on my next fitting German tank, great tutorial
Uncle Night Shift does the same Jagdpamther I'm struggling with for 3 months. Nice, maybe it'll motivate my lazy ass : D
Fantastic viewing on a Friday evening, German Armor is the best to model!
I don't do any modeling, but love your content. Good luck that YT somehow recommended you to me few months back. Also do wait for Fridays every week for new video.
Your videos are the most satisfying thing on the internet
That's a beautiful thank! It's gonna look so good
This is gonna be a good series!
Looks very good so far...keep up the GREAT work!!
Martin-
Thanks ever so much for the wonderful tutorials on the square pattern zimmerit. I have often wondered how it can be achieved using basic materials without having to resort to resin aftermarket.
Furthermore, you have influenced me to give armor another go, as I am an avid aircraft modeler of 36 years! I think that you, Mike Rinaldi, and Adam Wilder are game changers in the hobby. Thanks again for the inspiration, and all that you do to promote the hobby. I hope your leg is feeling better.
Warmest Regards-
Thor
Beautiful work my friend!
Excellent work as always !!!
Me- watching Night Shift videos at night
Very cool, and a JagdPanther, one of the most sexy pieces of armour ever 🤩. Interesting video as well. I did square tile zimm in the past on a Panther and although I liked my result I sure gonna give your technique a try.
One additional thing I did when the pattern and damage was applied is giving the zimmerit some additional texture by tapping an old tooth brush on the zimmerit.
Looking forward to the build video next week!
Hooray ! You're back after 1 week gone missing with new tutorial episode about ZIMMERIT - my favourite techniques :D
Real life saver tutorial right here mate!
Looking superb as always. Hope the leg is healing nicely too.
As always, its a masterpiece, my beautiful human. You are a superhuman!!!
Outstanding video and presentation.
I've learn a lot keep the videos coming
nice way to make zimmerit , thanks for the class !
Jewelry work!! Well done!!
That suspension looks beautiful. Looking forward for the diorama.
Brilliant tutorial on doing this type of zimmerit. Uncle Nightshift...👌👌👌 ..🤯😎
The stripey pattern of zimmerit in 1:72 scale can be done with a hack... get a cheap lighter with a spark roller or whatever it is called, take the roller out and get one of the sides off, you'll get the perfect little roller to do the stripey pattern consistently, and in scale too more or less. it is around 1.5 mm too. It isn't the best, but can save time when you work on the larger panels.
Useful for speed builds.
*Very good method for build a model from historical pictures, 👍👏!*
i got the zimmerit set from royal models that has a few square patterns on it but havent built anything yet that i want to use it on and now seeing this i think i am going to make my next model a zimmerit panther
will use the cheap tamiya panther so if i mess it up i wont be too upset about it
well done night shift on another good tutorial
Great job. I agree with you 100% about using authentic pictures rather than a picture of a museum restoration. I am working on a Panzer III, right now. When I researched it, I came across one in a museum that had the tracks on backwards. So, absolutely make sure it's a wartime photo. I'm tagging this video for future reference on how to do zimmerit. It's one of the best techniques I have seen.
Interesting technique, looks easy enough… I think haha. Excellent video as always
G O R G E O U S!! Good to see this in my feed. Thx Uncl Nightshift!
Looks amazing.
Love this! Going to add it to my list of things to try and screw up lol - cheers mate! 👍
Great video and excellent built! Love the stowage bins. This is a very Quentin Tarantino approach to the story of this Normandy Jagdpanther. Looking forward to the flashback next Friday! :D
Im tempted honestly
Looks awesome mate 💪👍
Seriously, very inspiring. Makes me want to get a build on, but i have a few shelf-queens to get on with...
Great work many thanks for sharing
This is amazing!!
From a sci-fi/fantasy wargaming background: both Tamiya quick type and smooth surface are really good for figure modelling and conversions. The putty just seems to go where you want it. Although it's a bit pricier than something like Kneadatite blue/yellow or Milliput, and (probably related) unusually difficult to find in the UK.
Lovely work as always, though as usual, I'm wincing to see the point of a toothpick being used as a spreading tool. 😉
Hey when I sculpt minis I use a toothpick...well ok, now it is Blender and a printer. If you really want to wince, I used to smooth bits of almost cured knead it with grease from the forehead.
Nice Zimmeret! Cool!
thx you so much uncle night shift i really needed a tutorial on how to make this type of zimmerit. ;D
You've inspired me to get into this hobby; this is damn fine work. If it were rated out of ten it'd be an easy 11.
Excellent tutorial, thks 👍🏻
You have given me hope on putting square zimmerit on my panther
F🤬cking yeesss....a notification about a new video from Uncle Night Shift!
💥⚡💨
Lightspeed, try and keep up will you!!
Very nice work! I have a Dragon Elefant and I used Squadron white putty. The results are ok, it is so far my only vehicle with hand-applied zimmerit. I bought a Trumpeter tool set for troweling the lines, which were done horizontally. I want to try a vehicle with the square pattern as you are doing. I look forward to seeing the finished model! The JagdPanther is my favorite tank destoyer of WW2.
beautiful work!
Hmm interesting camo, I haven’t seen this before, looks like a cool scheme! Please can you do more of this sort of this E.g how to do little details! Nice work :)
It’s not a camo, it’s what the Germans used as a counter against magnetic mines
@@WavyLettuce i know it just is a paint sceme though
@@wafflyfox7550 it’s not paint, it’s a plaster
@@wafflyfox7550 Lmao no, it's not the paint scheme. It's not painted yet, it just has zimmerit
@@beaverchicken ok relax I said it wrong jeez
HE’S BACK
Tank pose looks awesome, as does the zimmerit. TFS Unc, GB :)
Thank you , Uncle Martin .
very professional
Another great video :)
Oh sheeeeeesh my fav German tonk
I was inspired by the hybrid Tiger video to do my own zimmerit on my first armor model, a mid/late production Tiger. I couldn't find tools for the job in a hobby shop near me so I built my own out of a vape juice bottle cap, some sprue and super glue. I think the dimensions might be slightly off for the scale, but I am happy with the result.
This will be great reference when I get around to some Mid-Production MIAG StuG III G! Thank you :)
Perhaps another collab? :D
If you want! :) I would always be down for another!
Awesome, much better thats the resins
Definitely going back to check out more progress vids of this build..I really like the welded look you added to where the panels meet. My guess is that you used a 3d pen to achieve that look but either way, I am very interested in learning how you went about that process.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful work mate!
Aw man! You have to do the Jagdpanzer with the crew with their umbrellas up. You just have to :-)
awesome work, love these short videos about small but awesome details. Guessing that´s a meng jagdpanther, 😉😀
I remember reading somewhere in an old Finescale Modeler magazine back in the early 90's a very similar technique using the same white putty and the author made a tool out of styrene plastic that mimicked the various sizes of zimmerit for each of the different vehicles. Yours is easier I think.
Greatest videos very good!
I like your modeling very very lovely 😍
This technique is so impressive...and such a punishment at the same time... I hope that all this effort will pay out in the end ;)
