- In this video I spray paint the fuel tank of the Speed Triple.
With a white pearl base for the Triumph stickers, candy red, candy gold and sliver flakes for the shapes, finished off with a black pearl and 2k clear.

this is really good, i'm trying to figure out how to paint my bicycle frame and thought you did the base first then the accents. Your video shows that there's different methods. Now it wont be so bad when I tackle mine.

One tip that might help someone is when you are trimming with the blade be carefull not to cut too deep or else it may show in the final job as fine lines....

Looks good Dave, Any tips on measuring the amount of flake to use to get a certain effect?. Im thinking of painting a boat trailer with a holographic blue in the near future, But im just unsure on how much flake to throw in the mix!!. Looking forward to more videos, Keep it up mate!.

5:36, so when peeling that graphic backing sticker off, does the residue from that adhesive affect paint over it .......or should it be cleaned ?
Dave, I paint Harleys. Where can I get customer paintable Harley letters and decals made to order? Also, when taping off the paint transition for another paint color, I should wait until I clear coat that stage before I sand to smooth out the different paint lines and heights?

For the tank, do you use same primer as for the fairings that you have painted?

Just did my first paint job ever on my 180.had to do it twice cause i fucked it up 1st go but turned out perfect.only thing im havin trouble with is getting paint in all the gaps of door handle witgout getting runs.any tips???? Thanks for the vids mate really helped me out!!!

Why did you spray on the pearl white if you spayed black over top of it all? There is no pearl white anywhere. Seems like a mistake or error? Was the Triumph decal not white?

Realize people, this in not a "how-to" vid! What is completley glossed-over is the needed time it takes to be comfortable with the equipment, how to clean the gun, handle the gun, use the paints, and having a "hospital-clean" heated, air-vented spray room!!! Your saying "waiting 10 mins between coats". that only works in a perfect environment with heat-lamps and air-transfer system. And on a personal note with the color and graphic-scheme....someone has been watching too much Transformers movies! ;]

Hey, love the vids, keep em coming. I was wondering, since I can't copy line from one side of something to another without majorly messing up, is it possible to get one side the way you want and make a stencil, if so, what's the best material to use?
Zachary Lyman yes that's what I did but it didn't work out too well. Use a transparent vynal and trace around with a pencil.

It looks awesome if you remove the sticker after the base coat! What type of stickers are they? They seem to be coming of really easy so it's probably not an "official" decal?
I've been wanting to do my Triumph Speed Triple tank and just found this. I was under the impression I had to get the tank back to bare metal before priming it? Is anyone able to clarify?
No you don’t.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the sticker he used for the Triumph logo. I'm trying to find one where you stick it on and peel off after painting but I have no idea where to find them
you can get any, you should be able to peel it off using a hairdryer, warm up the glue to make it loose then peel it off using a razor blade to help lift it slowly, either way, you risk only getting minor scratches that you can fix by painting clear over and sandpaper and paint clear (which you have to do either way)
Why do you have to cover the tank in the entire color if you are only doing samlla shape? Doesnt it make more sense to gover the rest of the tank and spray just over the shape?

I usually keep it around 40 PSI using my HVLP Gun and 6 Gallon Air Compressor. Have some Great Results !!!
