- Using a shooting boom fork lift to lift an old roof off a house, then lift up all the materials to build a new one.

~~~~ Tough crowd here today...... Yikes!..... Lots of criticism and back seat drivers came out of the wood work about this video ~~~ (no pun intended)...... I see it as a bunch of buddies came together to help one of their own try and remove a very old nasty dangerous to walk on structure so he could build himself a nice home. None of them proclaimed to be roof removing specialists. Roof was unsafe to stand on and take off in pieces by hand. The video has super video footage. Multiple camera angles and outstanding drone footage and shows many aspects of on the job sight occurrences. Andrew is not a fan of wood structure if you recall in previous videos. He even tossed probably two grand in wood trusses off his Castle construction to go with steel instead. Andrew could have just not even posted this video but he offered to share it with us. Please rethink your thoughts folks.
Good comment here. Thanks.
I totally agree! everyone was doing what they could and eventually the job got done. Having built a house, I know that flexibility and improvisation is the best policy to get the job done. Thanks for this comment!
What a mess, that's why this channels so good. Andrew shows it all, ppl love him for his authenticity.
this is the definition of sketchy
@@dave_in_florida it can get worse trust that
It's because of us that he can afford to have all this 'authenticity'!
After 10 beers each, all agreed this was the bulletproof way to remove a roof...
I can't believe they didn't push out one of the brick walls. I mean certainly they cracked the mortar in 100 places, but the bricks stayed stacked.
I love how he never gets mad at his dogs for being dogs.
lol im the same way. its why i keep them around. levity. the world is so serious, dogs just dont give a fuck. Super stressful situation? Yup....dog dont give a fuck, just throw my ball!!!
@@DieselRamcharger Dogs keep you honest
They are untrained annoying pests really.. A dog is a tool, and should be trained to listen to your every little wish, and never be in your way....
@@MrZnarffy untrained is right. not everyone appreciates being a slave like you do.
@@DieselRamcharger Dogs do.. They LOVE discipline.. Don't equal dogs with humans...
Never had dogs myself, but inlaws had a shephard... 3 months after getting to know me, she was the most obedient dog ever, and guess what, she adored me way more than she did her owners... You don't train your dogs, they don't like you....
This sounds like one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" kind of plans.
Was wondering how they didn't see that coming... I mean, they strapped it to the weakest parts of the roof... had they done it the other way across it might have worked.
The way this roof was built looks weak. No beam across the peak? Add in all the weight of 5 layers of shingles and this happens
Or, hold my beer
Well, it is gone now, so I guess it was successful if not elegant.
A spreader bar might have helped. Screwing on some purlins across the rafters and lifting off of them would have helped too.
This whole project doesn't seem to have been thought out much 😮
This was so poorly planned out. I mean they knew that Andrew was bringing a heavy piece of equipment to the job site but didn't provide him with a solid enough surface to be able to lift the roof pieces off of there. Not only that but with how much wood rot the roof had of course it's going to fall apart. I don't blame Andy at all I blame who was running the show. They should have just taken a normal size excavator cave in the roof then send some guys up there to recipsaw the big sections of roof into smaller ones and yeet them off the roof into the trailer. Then again I'm no expert.
@@_V1LKA5_ I completely agree, and you can bet your sweet ass Mr. Camarata will make sure that happens next time.
@@bigfatpieceofpoo lol. no. dudes a hack.
@@DieselRamcharger You gotta hack before you can saw clean. I doubt he'll do the same mistake again.
@@_V1LKA5_ since when does the GC have to provide a "solid surface" on the site for subs? Wouldn't a surface be relative to the equipment each sub was going to use?
I love that there is never an intro to these videos, just straight to work.
And… it seems to me… the things featured are not on loan to him from a manufacturer or other entity seeking to embed an advertisement in hopes one of us will buy from them. A lot of the channels I used to enjoy turned into what I call infomercials.
I love it when a plan comes together in a pile of junk. Signed the A-team
*Seems like this job would have been 10x easier without the damn boom fork.*
this is like what barnhouse builders do every episode, he should have watched a few shows
Watching those guys strap the roof the same way each time with too much start hurts my brain
Yeah and then not even cutting the roof completely loose each time.
They should of strapped it parallel with the joists ripping and bundling the roof sheathing and then just taking the rafters
It does seem like there could have been better prep among other things. They risk damaging the walls of the house and making a mess. Oh well I liked watching.
Its the dumbest thing ive seen in a while. It is possible to take down those sections of roof in one piece but it would require someone who knew which was was up
If he can't weld it......
This should have been stripped down by hand, maybe some assistance withe fork and a debris bucket..agh!
with all the good bad & the ugly I love that Andrew put this up so we could maybe learn something!
As we say in Sweden: "Shortcuts are often longcuts"... Love your videos though!
My brother is famous for his longcuts on the road.
Levi looks 80 and ain't going nowhere, love that dog he is a star.
Put a doggie coat on the old boy!
If I remeber right you can calculate something like 1 year is about 7 dog years. If Levi was human he must be more like 110+ years old now. At that age your hip is well allowed to get a tad tired I think.
@Matt Reid He is an old Lab big difference.
It's funny how everything is a game to Cody.
😬
👍👍 ha just a question could they have roof sheeted this with tin
All the best dogs are like that!
Doggo gotta dog
Andrew: "You know my job's too easy, I should get a puppy"
Cody: "Hold my beer"
This entire project was a "hold my beer" moment.
Could you please hold my crate... oh you are already holding a keg...
Definitely a "hold my beer" project.
You got me good :))))
Definitely a “hold my beer” project. You got me good.
My 6 month old son loves your channel! Keep up the great videos
Good to hear that.
Less lifting roof off house and more imploding a house lol
That was like trying to lift a pile of leaves by tying a rope around them lol.
Perfect example of what not to do. Major damage done to the brickwork alone
@@michaeljones6832 ZERo damage what are you talking about? u dont see all the top bricks went to garbage anyway and replaced by ZIP walls
Yep, all of that second floor brickwork lost. Didn't look like that was the original plan.
Yep, I was expecting to see a ridge beam and collar ties in there, NOPE. Not much holding that old roof together.
Oh thank god, I thought I was actually going to have to do some work this morning.
I know the feeling. Relaxing before school, it is nice.
Next time, retract your arm and sink your forks in the ground. Then extent the boom while backing up. That’s been the easiest way to get ours unstuck here in the Georgia mud. Also, if your able to add outriggers, it’ll allow you to raise the front wheels out of the dirt to throw down track mat or plywood. Love your Chanel! Subscribed for a couple years now. Keep up the awesome work! Thank you!
I was going to leave a comment, but yours is nicer and covers it!
So glad your part was only fork lift operator... WOW !
Waiting for Andrew to show us the new demo grapple he's gonna buy for the boom fork lift.
I don't even know how to describe what I just watched. That crew had no idea
i was worried that one guy was gonna fall off the roof
Just be glad you aren't living in the house they remodel. If I were buying a house in the area, I'd be checking if this crew was anywhere within a 1/4 mile of it.
I bet Andrews business model is "yeah, I can do that"
Keep up the awesome work!!!
100%. Why make it complicated.
I don't know how they thought those would stay together with no cross bracing.
Also no making a sling out of straps
As always with this guy it's a bad design. Musta slept through his structural enginerding 101 class.
Telereach tires with no tread and no wooden mud mats. A real pro.
The new roof doesn't look much better to me.
Yeah don't know how he gets business with that crap
I always think Andrews dogs must be some of the happiest dogs. They spend time outside all the time with him. They also get to experience new areas to explore and get all the sniffs. Also they get to hang out with their best dog friends(Lacy and others) all the time. Best inspectors on YT. :)
And they seriously celebrate their birthdays 🎂 every year. Way to go Andrew. Thanks 😊
This video is more like what the channel was in the beginning... a "normal" work day for CPM. It was fun to see Cody pulling the straps, the equipment getting stuck, and a little disappointing the roof didn't stay in one piece as it was coming down. God bless Levi; he's a good boy.
It’s easy to be a critic. Andrew has accomplished more than most folks can imagine. As usual, he improvised and got the job done.
Andrew allways gets "a" job done. But he doesn't allways get the job done. In this instant, the approach they took did significant harm to the brick work. Though it's possible they don't even realize it.
Love to see that Ford putting in work.
I'm a chevy guy but still love an old ford.
When I seen how the choke lift / sling configuration was used with the direction of the roof boards, I knew how this was going to end, no brainer. You can't expect 2-1/2'' nails to hold the weight of the roof if the lift slings are working to rip the boards off. The slings should have been lifting on sections of the roof trusses instead of the boards.
Right?! Who are these guys anyway?
Thats funny because there are no trusses on that roof lol. There is rafters though! I guess you just don't know the difference between trusses and rafters.
@@mikeznel6048 You're absolutely right, but you knew exactly what I meant and so did 19 others, a truss or a rafter servers the same purpose to support the roof above.., but you knew that too didn't you? It doesn't change the sling configuration now does it? Make the world a better place and don't be such an anal orifice and you can correct me on that too, it means the same thing.
Not sure how I missed this when it came out. Anyway I found it, clicked like and watched it. All is good.
I have an old farmhouse that may need something like this too. Thanks for posting.
Destruction, Getting stuck, Cody being Cody and inspector Levi what more could you want out of a video?
I know I'm crazy saying this.... But.. A well thought out plan?
it has it all:-)
Cody deserves his own CZcams channel.
Kind of like "Cleetus McFarland" has a channel for his dog "Places Holley Poops"
"Dogarata Maintenance and Inspection"
Like a game of Pick-Up sticks with fishing line while sitting in a mud bath. Perfect February video Andrew!
How do 520 people dislike this video? Literally makes no sense at all! Andrew has the best and real life content on youtube! PLEASE do a walkthrough of the house when it is completely done!
That's about how I expected that to go.
Idk about you guys but my day just got better
This started out looking like the Moe, Larry & Shemp construction crew, with a side of "hold my beer" added in. Later in the video it seemed to come together though, and the end result was looking good. Well done!
Good job on handling obstacles. Not every job goes smooth, the important thing is the results
Thank you Andrew 👍🏿. Just finished watching your interview. 🇬🇧🇬🇧 I can’t wait for the mini castle build. ❣️💌
Could you imagine showing up home from work
And the crew got the wrong house
It has happened. Recently it was a raft of wrong addresses for roofers, who tore off the wrong roof and at least one wanted to be paid to put one back. Beware confused contractors.
And Surgeons, does the " X " on the limb mean not this one? Please write " Do not remove."
I’ve done plenty of this kind of stuff. It’s odd how it never gets old, enjoy seeing it come together.
"Insanity. Doing the same things the same way and expecting a different outcome".. 😂
Just a few more times and you'll be done
Really just a few more times and you’ll be done.
i guess every crew has a guy that just stands there looking through the trusses while everyone else actually works. ours is named Kevin.
if you find yourself on a site and NO ONE is that guy... than YOU might be that guy. :I
Well, he got it done. Enjoyable video. Not the smoothest process.. doesn’t change my opinion of AC. He always figures a way. Thanks Andrew!
Five layers of shingles?!!! No wonder the roof was sagging...
Can’t wait to see more work on your home! It’s always a pleasure.
Really fine materials handler, probably $200,000 machine of bought new today!
My construction boss used to say "everything takes longer in the winter"
like getting paid!
I appreciate how mellow everyone was. Again beautifully documented. Even though it was bizarre, no-one wearing hard hats and in fact me yelling at the screen, I built a house myself with my partner and our project “evolved” away from the original plan as well. I guess everyone just does what they can, in the cold sun and who can complain with that view!
AND NO FALL PROTECTION!
No harness , sliders, anchors, ropes, rails.
It's pretty incredible how that roof (or any well-built roof) should have lifted up no problem, but... Yea plans changed quickly on how to lift the roof considering how amazing it is the thing hadn't already caved in now that we can observe its condition. I mean those beams could barely support the weight of the plywood and shingles nailed directly to it. A hurricane would have shipped that roof to Michigan overnight for free. This is one of the best demonstrations of WHY AC wanted a metal structure in the first place on his property - first to house tools, vehicles, and his metal shop. Then later to live in. The weather and especially the winter there is just ridiculous.
"Where you planning on doing that or it just happened?"
"Its just happened."
Sums up the whole project nicely.
Cody is like those supervisor that are more of a hinderance 😅😅😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
There's often more information in a failure than in a success. It's pretty interesting to watch that and try to come up with a better approach.
failure is continuing to repeat same thing over and over expecting a better result ...that is this job 100%
@@woodslisa4529 it would've been a lot of prep time and expense to make it work how they envisioned. maybe they could've supported the center of the roof then peeled off sections of each side. No matter what, it'd probably be about the same result--collapsing and then lifting the debris out. That or spending a lot of time on the prep to pull it off cleanly.
We've (thankfully) seen some sketchy stuff on AC's channel, and he always seems to come out smelling like a rose. This one ranks up there for sketchy factor.
As soon as I saw there was no ridge beam, I knew it was going to be an adventure.
i don't think these guys ever worked in construction because that was a dead giveaway for me too. Without that beam, that roof has the structural integrity of a salami sandwich
