Many thanks, Randy. As so often in their work, Tuba Skinny show tremendous respect for the original - in this case the Jelly Roll Morton recording from the 1920s. For example, the second time they play Theme A, the cornet (just as in the Morton) plays breaks on bars 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Later we have Theme A with trombone leading on bars 1, 2, 9 and 10; and sousaphone leading on bars 3, 4, 11 and 12 (just as Morton used his trombone and bass). Even the Coda is played just as in the Morton recording, led by the guitar. For those who enjoy a challenge: at which point does the key change to F (it also happens to be the start of Theme C)?

I love how these bands can have some one sit in for an absent member and it all works out great.
I agree - it's a real testament to the musicianship of all involved. In this case, it certainly helps that the person sitting in is Dennis Lichtman. If you aren't already familiar with his work, be sure to check out his CZcams channel and Bandcamp page.
Dennis Lichtmann is superb.
You can listen him on CZcams often in his livestream sessions at Mona'S Bar.
They are sitting in other great players like Albanie Falleta or Aurora Nealand.
Maybe seventy five years ago I spent my week's pocket money on the Morton 78 of this. I still have it... Jelly Roll would be happy with this one I'm sure!

I don't blame her, when I was running a samba ensemble I couldn't stand random stand ins that played unteen years back but not for a while... ☹️
