Seeing a British reality TV show isn't so common, but the Wheelers Dealers prove that assertion wrong. The show was originally produced by Attaboy TV for the Discovery Channel in the UK and for Motor Trend in the United States. The show is hosted by Mike Brewer and top mechanic Ant Anstead before being replaced by Marc Priestley.
Just like other automobile-themed shows, Wheelers Dealers revolves around saving old cars by repairing and selling them. While the reason behind Ant’s absence is very much clear to all fans, it’s been a while since they heard from him. What really happened to Ant Anstead? Let’s get into the full details.
#WheelerDealers #AntAnstead - Zábava
Ed China was the star of Wheeler Dealers. Something Mike Brewer was jealous of. It was his idea but Ed quickly became the attraction for viewers due to his gentle style and clever fixing abilities.
You could have put a talking mouse with a spanner in his hand and oil under his four feet and he'd still be more interesting than Mikey.
At least Mikey wouldn't constantly be touching and attempting to stroke him like he's done with Ant and the race car driver.
Absolute facts...als Ant is now mr renee zellweger
Ed left because he wanted a new direction and now has his own show. Christ he left 7 years ago.
Ant was entertaining sure, Elvis has his good bits too. But nobody brought out the best of the show like Ed China. I used to watch this show religiously but after Ed left I don’t bother so much.
Actually I had started to give up before Ed left, they started giving Mike more screen time fixing the non oily bits, I felt sorry for Ed. I can understand why he left, I could see he wasn’t happy. When Ant came in, suddenly Mike wasn’t in the work shop so much.
Edd wasn't as good as Mike with pushing the start button on the sand blaster ....lol
@@agharries because Ant returned the same smart mouth. I've found those who dish out smart mouth seem bemused when someone gives it back in return, I could see that on Mike's face. "princess?? - what do you mean? - why you calling me a princess?" ;)
dont like ed
Who we really want to see back on Wheeler Dealers is Edd China, preferably with a new host.
I don't want to say bad things about "Elvis" - I can do mechanical work, putting camshafts in and even using the machine tools, nothing special there. Edd did seem to have more vehicle engineering skills. I think we want to see genuine skills, I like to see skills I don't have or can get (vehicle body work).
Not sure if getting Edd and Mike B back moves the show forward any, it was stagnating. To me if Richard Hammond who we all know is more a journo than engineer, (same for that horrible Henry Cole, James May) then there's a good opportunity for TV commissioners to look at the Edd Vehicle Engineering show.
yep
True
Ed and Mike had a good show, both had the right amount of airtime. It seemed more natural.
The newer version came across as forced and why they changed the show against fans' wishes is baffling.
ed and discovery fell out, never gonna happen
I miss Edd china he was the best part of wheeler dealers and the show lost its spark when the show went to America and edd got annoyed with the way everything went i cant blame him. I take my hat off to Ant its not easy replacing a guy like Edd
Yeh I noticed Edd's attitude change in the US, we will never know what the cause was. I've seen that kind of behaviour in myself, it's "this is not right I want out" - "if you can't show me respect then away with you.
The quality of the builds also went down. If you pause and zoom you see a lot of cracks, broken headlights and bad paint and stuff. It's like house flippers; they put all the required interior upgrades, but seem to forget insulation, wrapping pipes while they're busy cutting down every damn tree and painting everything like the frt door some hideous color.
That's what reminds me of those cars they sell off.
he rubbed me the wrong way
Edd has his own prog here on YT
Recent interviews showed they were forced to go to America by 'contract ', Ed didn't want to, Mike stuck to the contract... and so elvis and ant came along.. discovery channel for you. Ruined fast and loud aswell..
Ed China was brilliant a good mechanick no lies 😇
Ed China was and always will be wheeler dealers number one 👍 the early shows were definitely the best let's scripted more natural with less Mike Brewer ego power trip
My vote is for Ant. He had the best explanations for very complex stuff.
@@motomike3475 That may be due to scripting. To give technical explanations requires it to be scripted as it's way too easy to make a slight technical error. It needs to be a one way direct explanation with no backtracking. Only done by scripting.
Not just the script, Edd built a motorised sofa and a few vehicles for Top Gear funny challenges, Ant restored real cars, designed and built a car, way better skills than Edd
Ant is GOOD, BUT....Ed is a HARD ACT TO FOLLOW...!!
Ed was more likable, simple man, we could all picture ourselves being him, AA was a know all guy, most of it was true as he is very skilled, more than Ed, but he lacked connection with viewers. Most of what he was fixing was complex and needed a lot of skill and knowledge something that most of us could not associate with. Ed was our guy we could all feel we can do what he did, with AA was the opposite and the presentation was more theatrical, americanized, a show not closely related with reality, something that the original first WD with Ed was.
Totally agree apart from the bit about AA being more skilled than Ed. In the days of Ed, WD was a low budget show until Discovery took over and moved it to US. Money was thrown at WD which enabled it to up its game and use more consultants and experts when required, this enabled Ed followed later by AA to appear to expand their knowlage. Ed was always the most popular and seemingly genuine. Wish we could see more of Ed.
BS!! Edd was always a diva, and people behind the scenes of that show will tell you!
Sad stories and all aside, Ed was there at the start , you will never kill nostalgia, i prefer Ed china more to be honest.
I liked both of them. They each did a great job fixing cars that Mike Brewer would bring to their shop. Showing off their skills at doing the repairs much better than most mechanics would ever do !
Ed was the man.
Elvis the current Ex F1 Co host/ if you can him that MB? Lol! Has really slipped into that part effortlessly!
He’s a breath of fresh air and a true Petrolhead with a vast knowledge of Automobiles and a massive set of Skillsets and Personality which comes across as if he’s been there all along!
Still
Miss Ed’s! but Elvis Rockin a name like that covers all areas! 👍🏻😎
I agree it's much better, Back to basics .
Makes me laff at all the county names butchered so much.. Jeez
Yeah he sounds like a synth. Couldn't even get the show name correct, let alone bother to learn how to pronounce the place names
I never watched the show much after Edd left.
No mention of him being a policeman for several years. Can't stand this "poor Ant" crap, he didn't worry too much about dumping his first wife and kids when he jumped into bed with the glamorous TV star.
Indeed. He said his reason to leave WD was to stay in LA and be near his child. What about his children in the uk then?
Correct - it looks like he met his match with his american ex-wife.
Exactly, he literally abandoned them and tries to play on social media like they are his priority. It’s very obvious he uses his youngest son to garner attention- his posts about him are like reading a book versus what that kids mom does. Ant is incredibly easy to see through.
Obnoxius ant
Come on he “accidentally” fell into this slappers bed 😂
Go to 8:15 for the answer. Forget the rest of the fluff.
He got set up by his 2nd wife. She married him, quickly got pregnant, had the baby, then filed for divorce. So he has to pay her child support. THEN, because she was out of a job due to being pregnant and having a baby, he had to pay extra for spousal maintenance. Normally this is what you see with "starter husbands" but in his case he was #2. So she's got at least 18 years of guaranteed income and she doesn't have to even walk out the front door.
Correct
It sounds as though he got 'shafted'.
@@bigpants6121 True but he had to do the shafting in the first place hey.😄 He should have worn a condom at least, wouldn't be paying for years of child support now.
@@steveclark.. Dont trust a 2nd wife.
My teenager daughters have made jokes about "Christina on the Coast" since she started on HGTV. Their parodies of her (and her friends) stereotypical "West Coast, self-absorbed, empty, faux-talent" persona are so spot on its comedic gold.
Best part? They are West Coasters, born & raised, and can see that BS a mile away
It's a pity this couple had a child when obviously their marriage was not going well, now their son is an innocent victim of a broken marriage, which could affect him in the future......
As a mechanic of some four decades, may I say that I broadly appreciate each of the three mechanics appearing on this show. They are different but are all highly proficient tradesmen.
Thank you.
I never watched the show becuase of Mike Brewer, I always thought something was a bit off with that ponce. But I loved Ant's great way of explaining all aspects of fixing cars.
Agreed. Brewer is a colossal narcissist and just about the most irritating man on television.
Wheelers dealers 😮 it’s WHEELER DEALERS 😂
Ikr, also mispronounced Alpha Romeo... instead of Romero LOL
'Alfa' not Alpha.
Thanks for pointing this out, saved me from bothering, can't even get the show title right. FFS!
Can't get the show's title right in the first sentence? Slack effort. Don't recommend channel.
@@show-me-retro It’s Alfa Romeo. Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili and Romeo from Nicola Romeo, an Italian engineer known for founding the company.
Yes I liked Ant and Edd China both great guys!
Edd China was the best.
Legend
Better by a country mile. In fact Edd was the heart and soul of the programme. Ant ruined the show
AA - Absolute know all and big head.
@@ststephen1231 So, I wonder what that says about Mike Brewer
@@tonytrout3784he’s a P###
No mention of the fact that he's part of the revival of Radford Motors along with former F1 champion Jenson Button and others producing coach build cars the first being the type 62-2 based on a modified Lotus chassis.
I hope that's true. That would be really something to see !
Edd china was brilliant, tried to watch with ansted but cant take to him .elvis is good .
Crikey, that's one way to mangle English Towns and County pronunciations.
Big fan of Ant he’s a unique personality and enjoyable to watch
USA
Miss Ant, absolutely the best part of wheeler dealers, sorry for the break bro I pray you continue to go through the sky!!!
Wheeler dealers was edd n Mike, much the same as top gear was jezza Hammond and may- rip at time of departure 🤷♂️
Ant's metal bashing skills are amazing. Getting curvy shapes in sheet metal that look factory pressed takes some real skill.
I noticed Mike B does like to dish out the smart mouth, Edd generally put up with it, Ant slapped Mike back. I notice now with Elvis, Mike is much more respectful.
@@jw-pk5vf Thanks. Not wishing to talk badly of anyone I don't know. From my own experiences I know doing good "metal bashing" (vehicle body work) takes a lot of time to learn, it's a real skill, it can't be learnt on a part time basis.
Usually handsome men are more into themselves/chicks than spending hours learning the skill for which there is no substitute for hands-on which does take a toll on the hands/skin. I was suspicious of how Ant could be so good at metalwork when he never seemed to have put in the hours learning it. Eg a (UK) policeman has no free time for anything than the job.
There was a piece of metal needed to fit the lower corner of a windscreen that was to be fabricated, it was all curves, I >know< that takes a huge amount of skill, the impression was Ant did it, suspicious. And that sunroof removal/replacement, all the curves on a roof takes skill to get right.
Mike and Ed used to joke around and the concept was Michael's the boss of the budget and they used to make that an issue by joking.
That's why it worked before and fell out of favour after.
I love all the mispronunciations of districts in the UK, it's truly hilarious 😂
Moral of the story, don't wife up.
Ed and Ant were both brilliant
I agree, I thought Ant challenged Mike more than the rest and Ed was the gentle giant. Elvis just seems to bend over for Mike.
Ed always gave useful tips . With Ant you got a spinning spanner and a flash of bicep ,it got a bit weird . Also some sexual innuendo I watched one in which Mike says " I heard you do your best work in the rear" etc. Really unnecessary dynamic for this particular show . I'm not really sure what the prog was aiming for ? For me the star of the show is always the car .
Yes but Ant was really good at fixing stuff too. I liked his ability to fabricate tools or build things from scratch like the Capri bumper. In working on old cars those skills are valuable and what we want to see. Love Ed too, but really didn't like his taste in colours or cosmetic ideas for some of the cars he did which in my opinion reduced their value. I think both Ed and Ant were great for the show.
@@wigs1098 Ant was exceptional at his trade ,but rather than practical advice for the average home mechanic ,we got an array of "Heston Blumenthal" type machinery with lightning quick one liners and immediately the camera would zoom in on his face and a a spinning hub cap . It tried to become "light entertainment" It was much better for me in the old amateur "home shed" style . When Ed fixed the Audi TT gearbox with a small nut and bolt . It showed the viewers exactly how to do this . With Ant and the new format ,we'd of got .Ant lying on the roof "and that's the cause etc" a spinning batman style spanner ,a close up of tyre tread and some flirting from Mike . There was no practical information of any use .
If u honestly think this pretender did anything other than run his mouth off youre sadly mistaken. All made for the cameras which is why it was finally brought back to the UK & they found someone in Elvis to try & return it to what it once was. Ed saw what was happening in US & bailed before his reputation was tarnished.....
@@neil5209 The USA motor shows etc. always add fake dramatics and go completely over the top ."Wheeler dealers" is a "b show" if you like ,a niche home mechanic affair . It's a great show in this format . It was never going to work as an American all guns blazing fanfare alluding load of boll..x . It's not really scalable in that respect ,it's more "one man and his dog" at it's best which is fantastically marvellous as far as I'm concerned .
@@bluesmaster9896 I find the American car resto shows are all pose, wheel burnouts, being cool, high-fives and very little skill on show. The guy from Boyd Coddington called Mike (whose face was mangled in a car smash) I felt had a lot of skills to show us but it was all about personality clashes. UK WD is a blend of practical how-tos, taking risks (buying cars we'd AVOID) that's how we like it here :) No hi-fives, burn outs... yawn...zz.z.z.zz
I miss Edd, but Ant was a really good mechanic
He lived in Ellie Cambridgeshyer, moved to Hurtfordshyer, schooled in Hurtford ...
😉
How did you manage to get the name of the show incorrect?
I wish him well. Pity about the marriage that didn't work out.
Completely leaving out Ed China I see...
Not true, Ed was mentioned. Plus this video is about Ant not Ed and I cannot see any disrespect to Ed in this video. Maybe watch and listen again and pay attention this time.
@@MrPnew1 What I saw mentioned Ant and whoever replaced him. I admit, I didn't watch it all the way through however. The implication at the start of the video is that Ant was part of the original cast. Perhaps later on it corrected that.
In my opinion Ed was not replaceable.
@@melvingrimes7886 Completely agree with you there. I stopped watching the show not long after he left the show. I do love Ed's youtube videos he is creating.
@@beauthestdane I watch his CZcams videos religiously Edd to me is just such a charismatic guy.
I liked Ant and also Elvis, yes Edd was my favourite, but these other two filled the gap nicely.
I agree merle its a great show and all three are spot on.
Easier to fix cars than relationships.
The reason why people pop in and out of marriage baffles me. It probably does the same for you. I don't believe you got married to later divorce. Sad cause you're a cool guy and very interesting. I hope your next romance appreciates you. Lots of luck and much love.🥰
People can appear interesting on screen and in real life they are dull.
Successful people look good on a date but their single-minded success is often toxic to relationships.
his missus looked like your typical hollywood gold-digger, and drove Ant crazy.
the yank pronouncing of British place names is hilarious!
Sorry, it's really not, it's absolute murder!
They’ve got places in America called Hertford and Cambridge FFS! So why invent some new, never before heard, pronunciation for them?!
It's AI it's not a real person narrating🙄
I love both but Ant was the first one I saw so he has a special place
Ant had a baby? It's a medical miracle!
Seriously, I like Ant, but he was no Edd.
I lost track of the show after Ant.
Ed China was the star of Wheeler Dealers
With Ed China he actually showed you how to do things and explained well. As a result, I successfully did a few jobs on my car which I wouldn't otherwise have tried. I also liked his contrasting personality to Mike. With Ant, many of the things he showed could only be done in a proper garage. Also his style was more demonstrating what a clever bloke he was, so it wasn't so enjoyable. But both are obviously great mechanics and unlike some other commentators I think Mike was great and kept the show light and entertaining.
Ed decided to leave wheeler Dealers so he could do new projects and now has got his own you tube channel with Paul the mechanic I do like all 3 of them Ed did stuff his way which was brilliant and ant so did ant he was brilliant for that and then mark is doing thing's his way and that's brilliant but they all get on with each others and meet up with Mike on any car's shows they have a great time
The show is not as good as when Ed China was the mechanic. Hardly watch it now. Long live Ed China.
ant love what you do and have done ,keep up the good work lookin f0rward to the next ant works soon I hope best regards, john yorkshire uk
Edd I enjoyed but the reason he left WD did not have anything to do with ego clashes. Discovery as it does with so many shows e.g Iron Resurrection was trying to turn it into a "reality" show which was less and less about the work. Ant I always felt I was being spoken down to.
As to his marriage none of my business.
I was a fan of Ant on Wheeler Dealers - methodical and a good presenter. Ed China was amazing and I always watch reruns of Ed on that show. I would think Mike would be hard to get on with. For all his "knowledge' he comes across as someone who's never changed a tyre let alone a camshaft.
i don't think that is the case at all. I think Mike's character was scripted to a great degree during the Ant era but less so early on with Ed.
Would be truly great if the narrator could actually call the show by its name which is in the title of the video. It is Wheeler Dealers, not Wheelers!
Sometimes it's easy to forget that 'A levels' has just the one meaning in the USA.
Kinda baffled by so much animosity towards Ant. I get that most viewers have a soft spot for Ed. He was a lot more likeable, and wasn't smug, like Ant came across. I wouldn't have liked to fall foul of Ant when he was in the police,he doesn't seem like the kind of cop that would cut you any slack lol. But I don't think he deserves all the vitriol. OK,he's not perfect.... who is?
I was really fond of Ant. I really liked his work.
You are one hell of a mechanic and you are a wizard with the cars mate. 👍🇦🇺
Didn’t like him, was a bit of a know it all, Ed was amazing
A lot of the knowledge Ant has about cars is fast becoming redundant
Ant is a great guy. I never thought I would like Edd China”s replacement, but Ant prove me wrong.
Listening to how the county names were pronounced made me cringe .
After my major split I received orders sending me to the Philippines for 5 weeks. Talk about major breakup therapy.
Being married is really tough a lot of heartache and problems but you have to see it through the bad times and the good times no-one said it was easy.
But they do say it is easy Gary. Thats the problem. Thats the lie told by society to those getting married. Its why people get hysterically stupid when a young woman says " I got engaged" and everyone acts like she won the lottery because like Ants 2nd wife proved... she did!!! Young men are stupid enough to believe the lie. So when you say " No one said it was easy" thats just not true. Society only tells you that AFTER you walk out of the church. Anyway... this is a car channel not a " dont get married" Channel.. sorry. As regards Ant?... he was a big boy when he got taken to the cleaners by his 2nd wife so like all things... he has to suck it up.
Why put up with it though if it's like that may as well be single no hassle
@@MegaReddevil71everyone has problems, bet you’d fight with your best mate if you were living together for 25 years.
Ant is good in Wheeler Dealers and I enjoy his input. I just wish he would stop banging on about his F1 experience!
Ed always seemed pissed off and cranky - to the point of becoming uncomfortable to watch. With Ant it seemed that Mike was playing second fiddle and doing what Ant told him to do. Maybe Mike was the issue?
yeh I noticed that, even on camera and past the editing room.
Great mechanic and nice person 👍
More wheeler dealers please , edd, ant, or elvis it's the format that works, of course it's the Mike brewer show in the end but the spanner man and his work makes it work.
I hope Ant is doing well
I never seen an episode with Mark Priestley in it ,maybe we don't get that series here
He was Ok, but Ed is the goat
I am a bit surprised that they did not mention ants new girlfriend Renee Zellweger as of course she’s an a lister actress in California.😳🤫😀
An oversight in the research for this video, it’s common knowledge.
how old is she? 59
I'd love to see Ed and Ant do a show.
Bit of a numpty if you ask me. Dumps his first wife for a reality star mores to America to be with her and breaks up with her. His time on Wheeler Dealers has just been one long midlife crisis.
Edd and ant where both great to watch and dont forget elvis great show i watch re runs all the time ❤️👍
It’s not Wheelers Dealers!!!!! It’s Wheeler Dealers
Edd was the best - Ant was professor but his distorted mouth when talking really got to me.Mate - don’t over do it.
I miss edd china
I watch wheeler dealers the problem is it’s so dumbed down to a children’s program, it treats the viewers as idiots, it’s too rehearsed, the way Mike comes in the workshop “unexpectedly “ and acts all surprised.
It's Wheeler Dealers. Not Wheelers Dealers. The name is even in the title.
I really love Elvis yes Ed was wonderful! Both I respect and enjoy 🥰
Ed China the Master of automobiles
He has a business to look after in the uk
Ant is OK on mechanicals - just so posey in the boots and bondage gear!
Didn't even watch this it was so long winded but Elvis is best anyway so I'm happy we got him 😂
His downfall was living in hertfirdsiiirrrreee
I know those yanks can't speaka the English
Shouldn't use social media if you can't handle negative comments.
whats the name of the car in the thumbnail?
'Wheelers Dealers' 🙂
He's an ex cop so obviously they found out about his previous.
Never trust a pig
i watched all episodes,(really), it was entertaining and informative. mike brewer got the most crap, whilst being the cornerstone for all the guys tv careers. they will all continue to divide opinions, but i loved all of it. thank you.
Fyi any placename ending "-shire" doesn't sound like "shyre". It sounds like "sheer". So Cambridgeshire sounds like Came-bridge-sheer. Not Cam-bridge-Shire.
I assume from your phonetics you are in the USA...
Your attempt to offer the correct pronunciation has failed, with English regional accents differing so much ,as long as it is understood nobody is bothered. In fact most reduce the "shire" to just
"sh".
Ant you reap what you sow, Ed you will always be the original and best. Mike any ever heard the word loyalty
Ant couldn't be bettered in the programme for the love of cars all the way back in 2014 . As excellent as the programme was it shows the folly of car restorations ? All the cars restored where sent to auction but basically didn't achieve anywhere near the cost of the restoration in man hours and parts .
Great for us the viewer and even better for the lucky people who bought some exemplary restored vehicles, I just wish Channel 4 or others would make some more nut and bolt restorations of this calibre , car SOS comes close but the end result isn't as pristine and back to a concourse origional condition as for the love of cars .
I really appreciated Car SOS and their efforts from season 8 episode 1, the Porsche 356C. That was a useless scrapheap that many would have chucked in the bin, it was extremely far gone with little to no viable steel left. To the extent that a bar had to be welded on in order for the car to stop itself from snapping in half at the b pillars, and to restore that (originality aside, I'm sure they did their best even if every nut and bolt wasn't identical to factory specifications) was a monumental task and they managed to pull it off really well. They do fantastic work and I honestly prefer to Wheeler dealers for that reason.
He is making a new movie.
Bridget Jones gets spannerd 🤣
The show was Wheeler Dealers NOT Wheelers Dealers
I was stunned when I read these two were a couple.
Havent watched this show since Ed China left ! I dont need to say amything more.
Ant has gone into a supercar manufacturing business with Jensen Button!
Such is Life !
great news i can watch wheeler dealer again seems he's gone
The whole show came apart with the move to the US and never recovered.
