WORST Character in Persona 5 đ€

- Most of the characters in Persona 5 Royal are GREAT and WELL WRITTEN! But there are definitely some characters in P5 that are BAD and can become REALLY annoying...
Persona 5 is a game with an excellent story and an amazing cast of characters to talk to. But I have to admit, there are a few characters that have become annoying for me, especially on multiple playthroughs such as Mishima and Ohya, who I do think is the WORST character in Persona 5 Royal.
Yes...even ahead of Morgana!
Persona 5 royal has just released on new platforms with a brand new cast of characters, new bosses and personas to collect.

Mishima isnât a bad character, heâs just a teenage boy reacting in the same way most teen boys would if they were in that situation. Most P5 fans hate him because he hits too close to home [and the game is unfairly mean to him, like, seriously, heâs just trying his best :(]
I feel like a lot of people ignore him and his confidant just because he's kind of annoying early on and whenever you see him he mostly just wastes Joker's time (going to a buffet and then leaving since he doesn't have the money, inviting Joker out to meet Phans who never show) which sucks since he has a really great character arc and loses his negative traits by the end of his confidant

Bro how come people complain about this? Itâs factually not that deep guys, if you have basic 3rd dimensional thinking abilities itâs pathetically easy, the only difficult puzzle in the game is finding out who asked.
@@usrnmntavlibl2666 I think the 'puzzle' would be easier if you didnt have to wait a good solid 10-20 seconds transitioning between each area. It definitely makes it tedious. Having the puzzle being easy and tedious doesn't make it very rewarding to complete.

For those wondering why Ohya is hated is because her confidant offers the most useless bonus in the game, all it pretty much does is lower the security percentage in a palace. It offers no battle related skills and abilities like Maruki or Futabaâs confidant
Lala should have replaced Ohya as a Confidant

Mishima is one of P5's best characters. Flawed characters do not equal bad characters. Usually, the opposite is true.
must protecc Mishima
Worst is Morgana, no question. Few redeeming qualities, annoying character quirks, he looks really weird in 3D cutscenes, he's mega-creepy about Ann, and he's mean and arrogant to everyone in the group, especially Ryuji who he just straight up bullies for pretty much the entire game. Also his whole "I'm actually a human" arc had no payoff at all unlike Teddie who's existential crisis at least led somewhere interesting in the end. The fact that you are constantly subjected to this character for basically the whole game no matter what you're doing is a huge deterrent to my enjoyment of Persona 5. And keep in mind, I'm saying this as someone who LOVES CATS. Morgana is a disgrace to his species.
On a side note, I don't really get why people hate Ohya so much, I don't like her but I don't hate her either, she's just really drunk all the time, a little bit attractive and I liked her story about trying to avenge her former partner. For me the worst Confidant character was the kid who plays the light gun game, he was just an annoying brat and a good representation of the kind of person everyone hates to have to play with in an online game (but to be fair I only ever reached rank 2 with him so maybe his story improves).
The kid is alright, though. He made mistakes and redeemed himself while suffering from the way his mother treated him and needed a hand to deal with it cuz a little kid like that couldn't possibly deal with all of it on his own. He also gave out some of the best combat buffs.
Akechi is way more of a bratty prick than the kid.
Morgana is probably the worse character in the game for the single fact that he's annoying, stops you from doing what you want in various ocasions and acts like he feels superior and better than everyone else.
Literally sheep-level take.
Mishima and Ohya are the two most-hated characters in the game for absolutely no reason. Mishimaâs confidant is genuinely interesting and compelling as it follows a bullying/abuse victim who struggles to handle the power of the Phan-site after being powerless his entire life, ultimately learning to use his own genuine strength to do justice rather than riding on the Thievesâ coattails.
Meanwhile, Ohya is a genuinely fun and interesting character who is forced to tackle head-on the unjust, political reality the thieves face every day. It wouldnât be a stretch to say that she used to desire being a âPhantom Thiefâ of the press alongside Kayo, but her justice was snuffed by Shido with Kayoâs disappearance. With her boss distracting her by overwhelming her with strenuous quotas and threatening to fire her, she began to give up and become cynical, stuck in a dead-end job for meager pay with barely any justice to cling to. The entrance of the Phantom Thieves into her life via the story and her confidant with you reinvigorates her buried passion and reawakens the spirit to fight back against the unjust world that threatened the welfare of her partner in crime.
These, in my opinion, are easily two of the better confidant stories in the game. And EASILY the most severely underrated. Itâs honestly disappointing how many fans were turned off of it just because Mishima was âannoyingâ and Ohya was a drunkard who lacked âwaifu material.â
Thank you, ohya is risking her reputation in the world of journalism by supporting the phantom thieves through everything, and everyone just hates her for some reason.
Nailed it man, the hate for these two characters are insane and it doesnât help the game pretty much encourages it.
No, ohya deserves the hate. Ohya has trash confidant abilities, her character is poorly written, she's annoying, and personally I hate drunks
Mishima is cool though
mishima sucks, i dont mind ohya but mishima is just a lil bit of a rat, morgana is easily the worst character until they transform into a human though
Its weird to see that no one hates the Morgana Social Link. I already heard once that hes really disliked but seeing how Mishima is hated truly is just wrong. He is annoying at the beginning, yes but he is just an odinary teenager. Nothing special, just normal. Besides, he got more balls than some "badass" characters in the franchise like Kanji from P4 or Ekichi from P2 as example
The actual worst is the SIU director. He basically serves no purpose expect to exposit what the villains plans are. And then he just dies near the climax. You could remove him from the game and nothing changes
Also ohya is the character that has the best story of the confidants and the one that actually is connected to the main plot, plus sheâs the one that help the most is the vanilla ending, and who in real life wonât drink after all the shit goes through, one think is the abilities she gives and other is the character, I mean Makoto is one of the favs and she doesnât even have a real arc or progress or a lesson like the others
Only flaw with Ohya is that her confidant doesn't represent the Devil Arcana at all
A good example of a good social link using the Devil Arcana is Tanaka from Persona 3

Ann's are probably worse then his tbh, since Sexy Technique is chance based and has to have Ann in the party, and Crocodile Tears also needs Ann in the party and only triggers during hostage situations, and can actually make these situations *worse* sometime)

They gave Hifumi the best confidants in my opinion, since she gives you so much that is useful. I wish the arcade kid had been put in around maybe the 3/4 palaces, so you could work on gunplay better than more than half way through the game. People that hate Mishima ARE Mishima
Right? I like him a lot I kinda want him to be a Phantom Thieves (which Atlus originally planned) u should see his Phantom Thieves concept art, he use an Umbrella)
It's not that he's bad, just very realistic when it comes to reaction
This comment section and the video itself are kind of confusing the point of what a "bad" character is, so let's talk about this.
A bad character is a character whose writing is purely illogical and needless for the advancement of a plot or subplot, consisting in forced emotions, overused gimmicks and clichés, lack of any significant dialogue, and more. Mishima and Ohya are perfectly decent character, they both act the way they do due to an issue they are supposed to face within the society they live in (which, uhm, is the main point of the game for those who didn't realise it after almost 7 years).
Now, if this video refers to "bad" characters as in "annoying" or "weird", then that's another thing entirely. A bad/weird personality does not make a character bad, it all depends on their motives and purposes throughout a story.
I am gonna upset many with this next statement, but bare with me, it's my opinion: the worst character in Persona 5 and, subsequently, Persona 5 Strikers, is Futaba. Her role is important due to her relationship with her mother, key element of the game- however, once her palace is beaten, she becomes a mere vessel for cliché geek jokes, super stereotypical and only useful to "hack into systems", which to me heavily breaks the game's atmosphere as the writers always push it against you in a "she just can, deal with it" fashion.
Now everyone is free to have an opinion, and this was mine. Please though, consider that when you don't like a character it isn't always due to an objective reason, rather, most times it's due to a subjective one. As a matter of fact, I know there are MANY people who like Futaba and that's perfectly fine, as her character isn't entirely hollow. Therefore, regardless of appreciation or disappreciation for a character from your point of view, please understand there is more to learn outside of only your opinion.
Fr lol.. The amount of people in the comments that don't seem to understand that this is what the video is talking about is wild.
Wrong opinion about Futaba but everything else is spot on.
@@ginkowave5829 There is no "wrong opinion" about it, just subjective opinions. Futaba has a certain objective value within the story that nobody can deny, but past that point it all boils down to how you perceive the character. Most people love her, I find her nauseous, neither of us is wrong. My point is that regardless of what I or anybody else thinks, if a story is objectively well-written there is no bad character unless you consider it such for yourself only.

Not only I think Mishima is one of the BEST characters, I wanted him to become a phantom thief.
I know his arc is about him learning to be a smaller-scale hero. Not everyone can possess superpowers. However, writing a "zero-to-hero" arc for him would've been powerful too.
I also feel like it would've given him a much better payoff. He starts as a fanboy, but realizes he isn't doing enough. He wants to better the world on a larger scale too.
Imagine this: after Mishima hears on the news that the leader of the phantom theives was stopped, he goes to check on Ren in LeBlanc. He follows Ren and the group to the metaverse in Shido's palace, gets in and follows them for a while (unnoticeably).
Than, the PTs find a shadow cognitive dude who was somehow connected to Kamoshida AND Shido. Mishima hears about the atrocities they put a blind eye to in School, is emotionally hurt, but decides to be brave like the PTs and jump in. The PTs are shocked and try to defend Mishima from the shadows. Mishima notices how weak and incapable he is compared to the PTs. He feels like a burden. He starts to feel like he's truly a nobody like how everyone keeps on telling him he is. Ren tells him: "Ignore others". Mishima agrees and says: "I won't be the 5th wheel anymore". He gets a persona too and fights with the PTs (I'd suggest a persona named Hercules because of the zero-to-hero story he went through).
IDK, I just really love Cinderella stories y'all. Give Mishima some justice.
My pick is probably a tossup between Mishima and Kasumi. I honestly like all the characters arcs for the most part, but Mishima's confidant is an absolute disaster and it's hard to figure out which direction it's going in.
My other pick is Kasumi, mostly because she's just really poorly executed. I know that they can't break canon between Q2 and Dancing, but don't introduce a new character if you can't properly weave her into the story in a way that makes sense. It's made even worse by the fact that the other new character fits in perfectly. They'd honestly be better off just replacing all of the Kasumi interactions with Akechi/Maruki ones instead.
I haven't thought about this question much, though.
Yeah, Kasumi was so awkward, and forced that I always question her importance in the grand scheme of things if they didn't wanna change the base game too much.
Mishima is an annoying character. He is not a bad character. The difference being that one is poorly written and the other is well written. If Mishima annoys you, then he's doing his job.
So he was written to have the effect as shigechi from Jojo.
That honestly make him worse.

I especially do find it strange that they slipped up in terms of the story after Makoto wants to join the police force thinking sheâll âreformâ the system even tho she has already seen what the police do in P5 and P5S and not to mention that Sae even quit her job apart of the police to pursue a career in being a Lawyer for the reason that she didnât want to be apart of the system
yet someone whoâs realistically portrayed is hated on by people simply because he isnât an over the top guy and pretty much represents the shadow of an average persona fan (since their true self is most likely mishima)
Makoto isn't bland or poorly developed at all, she has personality and has her own issues with socially interacting with people and she has to deal with peer pressure and living up to the standards put up by adults at her school and by her sister, she screws up at times but she makes up for her mistakes and becomes a big help. There are many reasons people like here.
@@Windermed No she has personality and she isn't poorly written from her social link and story. She has personality and has her own issues with socially interacting with people and she has to deal with peer pressure and living up to the standards put up by adults at her school and by her sister, she screws up at times but she makes up for her mistakes and becomes a big help. She was lonely at first though as she was a great student but there were people that disliked her just for being liked by the adults who mainly like her for her grades and being student council president...so she really didn't have any friends and lacked in social skills.
They didn't slip up in terms of the story though and Makoto could still reform the system.
Makoto is also realistically portrayed yet you hate on her.
@@jaydenc367 itâs not that though, i just think that Makoto couldâve been handled alot better in terms of story and character development. While sheâs certainly good as a party member (with being a healer + good attacker) i donât really gravitate myself towards her because of the fact that after Kaneshiroâs arc they practically donât do anything else with her.
and the reason i think her confidant isnât great is because it suffers from a flaw that they made the confidant all about another student and not you getting to know makoto personally (aside from a few details) and that itself soured my opinion on her as just being a character with lack of potential.
I wouldâve liked her better if her confidant was more so focused on her own problems and issues and getting to hang out with her (like the other party social links are) and perhaps introducing a conflict similar to that of the others like Ryuji, Ann, etc instead of making the next 7-6 ranks just be about you pretending to be makotoâs boyfriend because they decided they wanted to put more focus on a social link character than who the social link is actually about.
@@Windermed It is that actually. I disagree, I thought she was done well enough really. What do you mean? Out of any member she had some of the most focus...like how they needed to get stuff from Sae's laptop and how she was involved in their plan in Sae's palace arc and how she was involved in the plan to trick Akechi too and played a big role in that.
Eh...that really isn't a flaw, it is about you getting to know Makoto too and her background and full backstory and her sense of justice and what she wants to do when she gets a job. Well I still very much disagree for the reasons I've laid out.
I mean...that focus is there. I mean...it isn't just that and they put more focus on who the social link is actually about.
I feel like people like Sae purely because she is hot. She spoils plot points, yells at her sister and tells her she isn't good enough, spends 3/4 of the game yelling at Ren and gets everyone killed in one of the bad ends.
I predicted Ohya being the pick in this vid from a mile away
The hell did you say about Mishima? He's the TOP G
Literally hated going through Ohya's confidant, between the fake dating and constant intoxication. Lala was the only part that made it tolerable because I LOVE her sass.
I liked hers, I knew someone who was going through alcohol problems until they got help, and I liked that I could help Ohya with the reason that she had started drinking.
As for the fake dating, well you could actually date all the women confidants so it wasn't a big deal to me, and some of her lines when you do date her are kinda cute to me lol. Plus her boss going "Yeah, your body type is not what teenage boys would go for" got a snort out of me.
His social link actually reveals an important detail regarding to palaces and his confidant skill is so valuable yet most people don't realize this just because he was a little annoying. đ
Ohya's abilities are useless but her story actually ties in to the main one being about shido
anyone who isnt maruki
Why do people dislike Mishima?
"This is how bad he is: He's a Sonic fan"
His whole character is basically phan site and phantom thrives like even when you go Hawaii and you room with him he still doesnât shut up about it
Because Persona fans are too scared of characters that are literally them
yeah they donât want to face the harsh reality that they arenât Joker and instead are just Mishima. An average teenage boy whoâs reactions to the PT are realistic in itâs own.
because he never shuts up about helping the phantom thieves
He has no personality.
No explanation, no elaboration, just OHYA.
"The worst has to be Ohya"
-Doesn't provide any more context
-Ends the video
Honestly? Based
The worst is Morgana for not letting me go out at night after a mementos or palace run
Sae Nijima with her little sister and Morgana at the second
Akechi...Go on,lapidate me
Hush with Mishima slander đ
Haru*
I'm calling the police
I mean her lack of character development really didnt make me like her but i certainly dont hate her at all
Who
@rayhanrehemaputra1719 no
@@amadeus3263 haru
Akechi!
If it was the original persona 5, I would agree 95%
But in royal, I have to lower my agreement to about 30%
Heâs the worst person, but honestly loved his playing style lmao.
Bro is a well crafted character even in base game, wtf
@@usrnmntavlibl2666 in your fanfiction of the base game, maybe. But in the actual game, nah.
@@usrnmntavlibl2666 I guess we have different opinions on the matter, thatâs fine bro.
I donât hate any of the characters even if the villains make me mad, theyâre some good and bad qualities between them but they donât make them terrible.
Can we all agree Morgana kinda sucks. Not like in battle though he's a good healer but i never liked the part where he goes off because he doesn't feel appreciated or unneeded. Also we can all admit we were extremely annoyed at least once when he constantly tells us to go to bed.
This was also done in Persona 4 as well. And rather you like Morgana or not, he was the winning move against Yaldoboth. Morgana was the one who guided Joker to humanity's collective hope, this was what gave Joker the means to summon Satanal. Morgana played the role of the Lady of the Lake from the Legend of King Arthur. Within the context of the story, Morgana was the guide, Joker was Arthur, and hope was Excalibur.
â@@Ninja07Keatonexactly. I feel like most morgana haters just don't really understand how morgana felt. Imagine being the only non human in a human group, not having any memories of your past and being labeled useless when you're the reason the phantom theives discovered the metaverse and mementos lol
I see you called mishima bad...
Time to give you a calling card.
Mishima is annoying as hell all the way till rank 9-10 and still he becomes just OK
I ain't reading that.
Worst Party Member Story Wise is easily Makoto, she's fine in the main story, but her confidant is easily the least interesting of the phantom thieves... honorable mention to Ryuji for similar reason, the Ryuji in the main story and Ryuji in confidant feel like 2 entirily seperate charatcers in terms of maturity tbh. Morgana imo is fine and overhated, though there is still flaws. Haru is somewhat underdeveloped but Strikers & her Confidant to a fantastic job balancing it
Worst Overall Character (not including irrelivant characters) is Kaneshiro. He just doesn't have much buildup, and no close ties to the phantom thieves. His palace design, theme & boss i do actually like tho... he just feels pretty uninteresting compared to antogonists/villains like Shido, Maruki, & Kamoshida.
Mishima gets too much hate, he honestly just feels like someone who's really interested in a fandom at a base level, and he's the most "generic" of the condidants with him having no real special skill, but still wanting to be of value.
this ^^
Morgana is soooo anoying + telling me that I am too tired to do anything is just horrible. And the being human arc is also not good.
People conflate good/bad character with likeable/unlikeable far too often. Mishima is one of the few actual well written characters in P5, he's a fantastic character even though he gets on my goddamn nerves every time he appears, talks, or exists in the general vicinity.
Most characters in P5 are pretty forgettable, but there aren't many I'd say are outright bad (though most of the villains are one note and moustache twirlingly evil). Probably the unnamed balding villain dude who Sae works for, I don't even remember if he has a name or not. All of his scenes are just "Look at how evil our scheming is, heh!". Horrible lmao
Morgana.
Annoying, ineffective in the late game compared to others and of course : You are tired today."
The opinion one person has on Mishima is clearly telling of whether that person has suffered bullying or is aware that bullying exist.
Some people deserve to be bullied, and Mishima is one of them.
Morgana, he's an asshole to Ryuji for no reason, I'll admit during the Haru Arc Ryuji said he's useless(when he's not). But he still rips on everyone, and is a huge Ann simp.
Morgana... hands down...
1. I like to play the support role so i dropped him as soon as Art boi showed up
2. The Okumura arc... nothing more needs to be said...
3. "Shady wait a minute thats my girl dawg, i dont give a fuck Igor sent me to piss the world off" - Morgana probably
The okumura arc was Ryuji's fault lmao.
Why do people hate Ohya so much? yeah her Social Link bonus sucks, but she has such a cool story to look at, and also the fact that she went after the woman from the beginning just to help the protagonist shows that she is really nice and committed.
Morgana for keeping you inside, Mishima for being weird, and Ohya for being gross and uninteresting
The worst is OBVIOUSLY Okumura⊠I donât have Royal and this boss was so hard to beat
To me Mishima is like a little brother. At times they behave annoyingly but theyre also your cheerleader. They want to help but also like getting in your business haha
for me Mishima isn't that bad, he's really annoying with that fame thing and wanting to talk about the Phan-site all the time but he gets to have a cool development reaching the middle to the end of his confidant
Ohya is really pretty bland, her story for me was kind of bland, but honestly I still like her a little bit because I think she's funny
Easily the SIU Director. Heâs just there to be âMwahaha Evilâ
I personally donât think Mishima is the worst character. Heâs actually one of my favorites. If someone wants to state heâs the worst character, then I wanna know why they think that because I donât think thereâs a reason he should be the worst character in the game.
Everyone is defending Mishima yet no one is defending Ohya
But Mishima is fucking hot man! And he tries his best. He is a honorary member of the Phantom thieves. He is very helpful throughout the story!
Ima be honest, I sympathize with Mishima; heck, I can empathize with him, because Iâve been in similar situations as he (people pulling me out of dark places in my life). Regardless, I despise his character for some reason.
Nah u must be projecting or something, bro is literally the most down to earth, realistic character in the game
"ohya" more like "ohno"
This short actually has no exploration
Everyone hates on Ohya and I guess Mishima but ya'll are avoiding characters like Ann and Makoto
@rayhanrehemaputra1719 To me Ann is bland, maybe it's the games fault but you can avoid her all story. I get her arc but several are much more interesting and meaningful.
â@@shazam5502 makoto is not a bad characters but she is so overrated and her social link are the worst. Even ann social link are slightly better than makoto which is impressive on its own.
I thought Mishima was a good character at the beginning of the game⊠but then he started giving me a bunch of mementos quests and constantly wanted to do things that seem irrelevant to my ideals when playing the game. I still havenât finished the game yet but I hope that his character does improve
Morgana casually sitting in your party, as you slander people who never sucked:
Fool... I WAS THE IMPOSTOR!
Man. People dog shit on Mishima for no reason. HES TRYING MANđđđ»
