The Dragon Quest soundtrack thing isn't about hating America. The soundtracks are synthetic in Japan too. The reason they generally use synthetic instead of symphonic is because Sugiyama charges more for symphonic because he wants people to buy CDs and concert tickets.
Personally I don't care about the soundtrack differences, I like both variants and it doesn't matter which one I listen to while playing the game. I want a good DQ monsters game, the new Joker or something similar...or a game like Sentinels where you can create your own character and change the main character's job. (Sage for life!) Just, something not on handheld, Dragon Quest 11 style graphics and open world. Maybe a bit more to do in it so the end game isn't just grinding for metal slimes...Think Skyrim (made by actual programmers) but Dragon Quest. (maybe with the option to tame monsters instead of hiring other party members in Patty's pub...Fight along side my slime party.)
Aren't there games in the series where the Japanese version has the symphony and the Western one has the synth? Dragon Quest 7 comes to mind.
So where does the "hating American" thing come from? Is the xenophobia of the guy just something that's real but isn't related to the issue of western releases, and people just mixed things up?
@@Archonus No, in the original game both versions had synth. On the 3ds remake however, the japanese version had the orchastred ost. On the ps2 version of Dq8, the us got the symphony ost, and the jp got the midi ost.

I played the 3D Sonic games first and really didn't dig the old ones especially the first one. Screen crunch sucks so much out of the games. Good music and art though.
@@MistyDusker Yeah the only level I like from Sonic 1 is Green Hill Zone. For Sonic 2 all the levels are good except for the last one. As for Sonic 3 and Knuckles, I love it all the way through

I said this in the original video. Wild Faery did a REALLY good job on the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra stuff. Like, legitimately. I went to the World Tour and World of Tres in NY and they were actually phenomenal. Yoko Shimomura was even there for both. They were legitimately two of my favorite experiences. So they either had other people organizing the Final Fantasy one, or they got better. It sucks that Chris went through that shit, man. I wish he could have experienced the Final Fantasy equivalence to what I experienced, since he's so passionate about the game. It actually makes me sad.
I think it was just that specific company that organized the scam concerts, he said they were infamous and pulled this kind of shit before.

Fun fact: Fire up the FDS version of this game from the Castlevania collection, the heart counter at the end of the stage only takes like a second. Apparently the cartridge was too stupid to do it any other way than one sound queue at a time.

You know what after rewatching this I think that guitar hero thing that never saw the light of day would’ve been huge since I remember in that time there wasn’t that many, if any, positive GH jokes memes or anything it was just people saying to play a real instrument so I think it would’ve stood out at the time

Just replayed this game again. Only thing that fucked my ass for a while was Death ofcourse. Can't believe Dave got owned by Dracula so hard. All you have to do is wait till he opens his cape, jump over his fire and hit his head. And keep moving so he doesn't teleport on top of you. Takes a bit to get the pattern but after that it's so easy. And then you can cheese his 2nd form with Holy Water.
Also I really hope they play the 3rd game some day (and maybe revisit and beat Rondo of Blood).

You guys could play Bloodstained Ritual of the Night on Steam. It's a spiritual successor to the classic Castlevania and have only heard good things about it
About the whole Dragon Quest thing; I don’t think Koichi Sugiyama, the composer, is necessarily anti-American, but rather ideologically motivated. He’s an ultranationalist born a decade before the US’ entrance to WW2. The US’ failure to stamp out ultranationalist movements (actually supporting them in most countries, even allied and neutral) probably didn’t help. Regardless of that, he’s probably grown up hearing all kinds of ultranationalist myths about Hirohito, the IJA, et cetera. I don’t consider his denial of Japanese warcrimes, such as the Nanjing massacre, to necessarily be proof of that, since that’s a pretty common position in Japan (again due to lacking US crackdown on ultranationalism and horrible Japanese education policies). He has made a big fuss about US political acts so it’s probably a kind of “revenge” against the US. If you “sanction us” by asking the Japanese government for an apology for warcrimes (some of which the US covered up btw; most infamously unit 731, among many others), then I’ll “sanction you” in my own way.
It’s like the absolute vast majority of economic sanctions. Mainly hurts the average Joe :D
