Original Video: • Kalandra - Brave New W...
Kalandra is a Norwegian alternative-folk band that was formed in 2011. They create a unique blend of music that combines elements of folk, rock, and electronic genres, often characterized by enchanting melodies, atmospheric soundscapes, and thought-provoking lyrics. Their sound has been described as ethereal and mystical, drawing inspiration from Nordic folklore and nature.
    The band's lineup consists of:
    Katrine Stenbekk: Lead vocals
Jogeir Daae Mæland: Guitar and vocals
Florian Bernhard Döderlein Winter: Drums and percussion
    Oskar Johnsen Rydh: Bass
    Ingelin Løberg: Keyboards and synths
    Sindre Ulvik Péladeau: Guitar
Kalandra's music often features a mix of traditional instruments, such as the Hardanger fiddle, and modern electronic elements, creating a captivating sonic experience. They have released several singles, EPs, and albums, garnering a growing fan base both in Norway and internationally.
Some of their notable works include their debut album "The Line," released in 2020, and singles like "Brave New World," "Sell Your Voice," and "Borders." The band has also gained attention for their haunting cover of the Wardruna song "Helvegen."
Kalandra's live performances have been praised for their energy and engaging stage presence, as well as their ability to transport the audience into their mystical world through their music.
"Brave New World" is a song by the Norwegian alternative-folk band Kalandra. It was released as a single in 2018 and later included in their debut album, "The Line," which was released in 2020. The song showcases Kalandra's unique blend of folk, rock, and electronic elements, creating an atmospheric and captivating sound.
The title of the song, "Brave New World," is likely inspired by Aldous Huxley's dystopian novel of the same name, published in 1932. The novel envisions a future society characterized by technological advancements and extreme social control, exploring themes of individualism, freedom, and the consequences of a society obsessed with consumerism and instant gratification.
The lyrics of "Brave New World" seem to resonate with the novel's themes, as they touch upon the feelings of disillusionment and longing for a more meaningful existence. The song encourages listeners to question the status quo, reflect on their own lives, and consider whether they are living in a way that is true to their own values.
Musically, "Brave New World" features Kalandra's signature blend of traditional and modern instruments, with haunting vocals by lead singer Katrine Stenbekk, soaring melodies, and atmospheric synths. The song's arrangement and production effectively convey the emotional depth and thought-provoking themes present in the lyrics.

Kalandra is one of my favorite groups. They have that "something special" that I also find in Aurora, Susanne Sundfor, Royksopp.. Here's a suggestion for another Kalandra song: Borders (czcams.com/video/zHh4t38f9AM/video.html)

I'm so glad you're doing more Kalandra! I was the one who requested the first one. Pretty much all of their music is like this and it's why I love them so much. Another 2 songs they have that are really good are Borders and Lullaby. Borders is probably the more well known song, but definitely one of their saddest songs. Lullaby is probably one of their gentlest songs (plus who doesn't love a 7/8 verse).

The Lyrics are extremely profound and important, so if you didn't hear them, I hope you will look them up. Kalandra is a terrific Band. Katrine is the lead singer and reminds me of Aurora. Probably why I like them so much. I love their sound and their lyrics. Oh, and your music was way too loud with your final thoughts. Couldn't hear a word you were saying. Just letting you know.

So glad you randomly posted this!!
I'm a huge HUGE Aurora fan...and early this morning I saw a notification on my phone from the Aurora subreddit talking about this band/artist who had serious Aurora vibes. But I accidentally swiped it away...and then for the life of me couldn't find the post. D: But this was definitely the artist now that I see it written out! Glad you just so happened to react to this now...good timing for me lol.
Now I'm curious to hit play and see how close it actually is....
    Even if it's nothing like Aurora, maybe it'll still be good? :}
I also love Bjork and heard someone say the Icelandic band Mammut has deep Bjork vibes. And sure enough, the first song I heard, "The Moon Will Never Turn On Me" sounded like something straight off one of Bjork's 90s albums. It was so good.

    Close your eyes and sleep
Ignore all the burdens that you keep
    Come whatever may
They could never harm you anyway
    Stirrings in the wind
    Resonates a whisper from within
    Warnings from afar
Telling you to heed the morning star
    Waking from the dream
Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in
The end is what you fear
The scent of embers lingers in the air
It's like a web there is no escape from
It's got you trapped and you long for freedom
Every wish every dream was granted
    Never knowing what they demanded
You see the wall how it's getting higher
You want to fight but you're all divided
It's not a world anyone can thrive in
Is this the world we were meant to grow in?
Somebody tell me where are we going?
A brave new world will rise
If we do not act upon its lies
    Hold your tongues no more
Learn from all the ones who came before
Catch the wind and fight the storm
Through the fury we're holding on
Take your time but not too long
Make it worth the time you own
You woke a fire inside of me
Fanned the flame and made it breathe
You woke a fire inside of me
    Inside of me
    Inside of me

This song, although it’s technically based on the novel by Aldous Huxley.. was my escaping DV fight song. If you read/hear the lyrics with that in mind, it takes on another meaning.
“It's like a web there is no escape from
It's got you trapped and you long for freedom
Every wish every dream was granted
    Never knowing what they demanded
You see the wall how it's getting higher

“You woke a fire inside of me, fanned the flames and made it breathe.”
    Etc.

Oh wow.....she DOES sound like Aurora. And I like it a lot.
The high crystalline voice at the beginning was very Aurora. But then around 2:30 when she got lower....it was almost even more Aurora. That even sounds like the kind of modal melody Aurora would write these days.
I should dig into them more. Cuz I'm sure there's a lot to love about them besides the Aurora vibes. :)

Thanks for checking them out and for the comment. I'm going to start collecting comments like these to send to music-biz people each time they tell me that reactors hurt artist revenue.

    • @avedic
      @avedic Před rokem +1

@@tnae great idea!! The fact record companies think reaction channels hurt artists is hilarious and absurd. If I want to actually listen to the song I go to Spotify. I use reaction channels to a) discovery new stuff and b) indulge in the vicarious fun of seeing someone fall in love with an artist I love. It ONLY helps the artist. But when record companies try to block videos...it actually sends the "message" that they don't like the fans and want to punish them. It's so backwards. You'd think they'd get it by now. A channel like Lost in Vegas(I think that's their name?) or The Charismatic Voice gets like 500k people to check out a song they otherwise wouldn't know exists...and many of those people are younger and may have never even heard of the artist in question. So yeah...smart idea on your part!

Like you, I'd heard them before, but for some reason only recently did I really connect with them, and wow, what an amazing band. Katrine gives me chills like no one since Aurora. I feel like I might need to start flying the Norway flag at my Oregon home! 🇳🇴
I think this is my favorite performance of theirs, but a very close second is this performance of Slow Motion: czcams.com/video/FjghdvL-LW0/video.html

    • @avedic
      @avedic Před rokem

lol....be careful, a local Dominos Pizza place where I live in Tennessee had a Norwegian flag in one of their windows....for some reason. Maybe the manager was Norwegian? Who knows. But some (very dim reactionary) people made a big stink about it in the local paper....claiming it was the Confederate flag. Seriously. Even AFTER it was clearly pointed out to not be that...some people said it was STILL not appropriate, given that some could mistake it for the Confederate flag.
And now with all the absurd accusations surrounding Aurora and her drummer in Brazil right now....I'm just *_exhausted_* with liberals.
Especially because I am one. I'm very liberal, very progressive.
And I'm beyond exhausted with how quick we are to accuse, attack, police, and cancel each other. All the while....those on the right....literally excuse each other for EVERYTHING, because their only goal is brute authoritarian power. And they don't even need to attack liberals....because we're doing that job FOR them. And these same purity police who attack their own......can they be bothered to do the bare minimum and vote? Nope. -__-
lol sorry.....why did this become a rant? idk. Maybe it's cuz I'm so frustrated that Aurora(of all people!) is now being targeted by this same moral panic mob mentality.
Anyway...I say fly that Norwegian flag! Just make sure it doesn't hang diagonally! >_
