It would be great if those who are incredibly capable of helping the world at large actually gave a damn. I look at a lot of these huge homes and, maybe it's just me, I wouldn't want all of that. How many luxury homes, super cars, yachts, private jets and all manner of pointless luxuries does someone need? At what point is it enough? What do they want out of that? Status? I swear if some wealthy people spent some honest thought about their spending on luxury, they'd maybe see how unfulfilling all these over the top material things really are.

Nah. The same continues today. Much of the cheap gold in the western world (that average people buy, too) is the result of abuse in the DRC. We dont wnat to do anything about it. The EU has some sanctions/checks in place, but the US doesnt want to do anything. Thats how it is, though. Some people will come here and complain about all the abuse and how all this money could be used to save the world, but they themselves wont sacrifice anything. Theyll continue to buy cheap clothes made by sweatshop labor even though they can afford more, cheap jewelry, cheap whatever else.
