Summer of '70 a picker friend took me to a small bar in DC (21st Amendment) to hear a local (Bethesda) girl do her stuff!
As she approached the tiny stage next to the bar it was instant Crush City!

I used some of the words to tell my sister, in the hospital, who has stage 3-4 cancer: "Just like the sun over the mountaintops. You know I'll always come again. Out on the road that lies before us now, there are some turns where we will spin. I only hope that you can hold me now, til I can gain control again." I pray the chemo works. Thanks for the words. They comforted her.
Such a hard thing to see anyone go through, let alone a sister...I know. I hope she's still here but if she's not I hope this song comforts you.
There is no one that will have your back like a sister. With all the arguing we did when we were younger, I always knew she had my back and loved me. We are both old now and I pray we both finish our lives together.
I used to listen to this so much I about wore out the record. Tried to sing like her as well. Wonderful memorized of a 77 year old.

This is a classic Emmylou Harris song. It's by far the best version of this song, written by Rodney Crowell, one of the Founding members of Emmylou's Hot Band, the best band in the history of country music. I love the angelic harmonies near the end, Emmylou, Linda Ronstadt and Fayssoux Starling. One of the most magical musical moments ever recorded.
I have long considered this to be one of Emmylou's greatest recordings, Michael.

.This woman is so flawless, it takes my breath away!! She's my queen in every sense of the word,for the last 37 years of my llife ,anyway. Saw her in concert, in 1980,in Anaheim, Ca.She came out in a white lace dress,with yellow boots. I wanted to cry,as she floated across the grass on her way to the stage. What an Angel!!!

Don’t know if this will resonate here - I grew up in a home in which all music was valued and accepted. That included Opera and my professional career as a lawyer brought me deep into that world with two world class opera star clients. Emmy Lou’s voice has the power and range to have made her a star there - rarified company indeed.

No doubt! I've been singing this song for over forty years --- This is the best version I think I have ever heard . Wow! Really Good!...
Note: The recording engineer needs to back off on the (Bass) guitar though. Its overpowering. Its drowning out the vocals at some points. -->The long slide "twang" for a lack of a better word. LoL

When the energy crisis was at its peak I would let emmylou get gas anytime she wanted. One lady said hey why is she getting gas she has odd numbered plates and this is an even numbered day! I just lied and said she is a nurse and all medical personnel can get gas anytime. 😜 she believed me. Emmylou stopped by a week later and gave me tickets to the Child's Herald to see her show with my buddies. When we got there she sat us up front stopped by our table and told the gas story to the whole audience. Class Act. She's Great!

I also saw her at that Child Herald..had to be about 1972. She was unknown then. But I was so taken by her face and her voice..I asked and found out her name. I wanted to remember her. Back then she sang mostly folk music. About a year later I heard her sing a duet with Gram Parsons on a country station....was so impressed I said....hey..that's her. It was called 20,000 roads and I ran out and bought the album Grievious Angel
I still have it. She's in her 70's now and still a beauty.

yep, has done it for me 45 years now, all the way back to the two GP albums that got her going. If there was ever a voice to be described as "angelic" it is hers. Saw her either 4 or 5 times in the late '70's and '80's, charisma there similar to Dolly. There just is a warmth exuded so few ever reach. She's an American treasure.
