Wow, you are a natural at this documentary making/filming/editing, or at least you make it seem that way! You captured it all fantastically, the human aspect and interviews were great, your enthusiasm and support for the runners was amazing (as were the runners of course). They absolutely need to invite you back again to cover it next year! (not sure if you’d want to go through all this again though?! 😂) congratulations on this excellent piece.
That was absolutely incredible to watch, I actually felt like I was there, so enthralling - amazingly captured Stephen thanku so much for sharing such an incredible race with us, and not to forget to mention these amazing athletes simply awe inspiring 🙏
Fantastic Stephen, I was completely engrossed in this and captivated by all the athletes. These athletes are truly amazing . Thanks for capturing it for us.
This is the best documentation of a Backyard Ultra I've ever seen, and I've seen them all. The editing, the interviews, the camera work, the commentary. Perfect! Great job! watching this in preparation for my next Backyard, haven't done one in a couple of years so this perfectly reminded me of what it's like and what I need.
I enjoyed this. Just watched a video on the Barkley Marathons and a Backyard Ultra in Auckland too. The Auckland one ended at 32 laps and it's bonkers to me that these guys did more than 80!
This was a great film Stephen, you've really been putting in the filming and vollie hours lately! I've only done one race that was similar in format, which was 'Norm's Helium Loops' in Devon. Only 5.5km per lap but 250 mtrs of vert on each one! I lasted 7 laps. I do know from E24 that running loops and seeing your base regularly definitely requires a different type of mental strength. I'd love to give this one a crack.
Thanks Ian. There's definitely something about looped courses that helps to break a run down into manageable chunks. Although for some it can get very monotonous.
Thanks for a brilliant insight into the highs and lows of an incredible event. Feeling inspired to sign up for one although no idea how anyone gets much beyond day 1 🤕
This captured the event in all its madness beautifully. Running with such elite runners made it all the more memorable. And yes counting is difficult 😂
Brilliant video. In Australasia we’re processing the incredible 102 loop world record just set in Australia. Hard to imagine how people do these things…
What a race that was for you guys. Amazing to beat the record. We were hoping to get close but things fell part a little once we got into 70+ hours. Let's see what happens at Bigs
Really great documentary, absolutely engrossing. What incredible individuals and on top of 82 hours of running and sleep deprivation, they can conduct a perfectly lucid interview in a foreign language!
Finished watchman it today. Absolutely brilliant. The determination of the runners is incredible. You captured the atmosphere, the mood, the surroundings perfectly. The runners are completely mad, but I am in complete awe. They are just amazing and already I can't wait to go back next year.
Fk me. They've just crossed the line after a million hours and you've giving it the full 'press conference' thing! I bet they're thinking "please just stop asking questions because, belive it or not, I need forty winks"! 😂
They are very interesting events and not for everyone. I know some people who absolutely love Backyard Ultras but then others who hate them. I'd definitely recommend giving one a try. I might even sign up one day!
Wow thank you Patrick. That's so kind of you to say. However, did you know I won an award for my previous Backyard documentary which is not actually on CZcams but on Vimeo. You have to pay to watch it unfortunately but it's called '81 Yards - A Backyard Story' and it's from when John Stocker broke the world record a couple of years ago.
What does yard(s) mean in the context of this type of running. CZcams just recommended to me this video out of the blue because I definitely don’t watch running content. I enjoyed the video.
It’s basically a loop. The backyard ultra is so named because the original takes place in someone’s back yard. So it’s a loop around their back yard. So one loop is a yard.
Surprised at what is said in the introduction : Running the laps as fast as you can in order to have more rest doesn't sound like a good strategy. You need balance, you need to pace yourself
Hi Stephen, well yes it would be of you were pacing or offering assistance of any kind. However, I am part of the media team with no affiliation to any runner, not pacing or offering assistance. Same as when you see camera men running alongside runners at Western States before pacers are allowed.
Wait till they find out about Big’s Backyard Ultra this year=-108 laps /yards 450 miles total. Harvey Lewis, chapeau!
108 is 3 and a half day. unreal superhuman 🔥
Wow, I thought 102 laps at Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra 2023, was amazing
Vegan Power Harvey Lewis 😎🥬🥦💚
@@stensballe3683 108 / 24 = 4.5 days
Most of these guys were there at Bigs as well so they know what went down.

Wow, thank you! Really appreciate that Kathryn. It is a labour of love and I hope my enthusiasm for the event comes across in the presentation.
This is so well done. The way you've captured the runner's stories and personalities is brilliant. Looks like an amazing event.
That was absolutely incredible to watch, I actually felt like I was there, so enthralling - amazingly captured Stephen thanku so much for sharing such an incredible race with us, and not to forget to mention these amazing athletes simply awe inspiring 🙏
Hi Clair. Yes these runners are amazing. They just keep going lap after lap. It's madness
What a brilliantly put together, moving, inspiring piece of video. I’m a little lost for words watching this one.
Appreciate that Freddy thank you
Exactly!

I know!! I have literally no desire to run for that long round and round in a loop! Takes some perseverance that's for sure. Would you ever try one?
@@FilmMyRun you know, I like the idea. But I liked the idea of trying a marathon once - that was 7 years ago and I've never run another. ;)

I LOVE the coverage of the Backyard Ultra... but the interviews BEFORE made the video. Amazing job, and thank you!!!!
Thank you. I was lucky to interview just the right people at the start who made it to the end!
Amazing the will and drive of everyone..
"my plan is to take it slow for the first few days" 😂
I know right?!
Brilliant! Loved the live updates and love this film putting it all together. Counting beyond 65 can indeed be very confusing 😂
Ah you spotted my secret of simply gluing all the bits together!!! I'm working on the counting for next time.
Thanks for a brilliant insight into the highs and lows of an incredible event. Feeling inspired to sign up for one although no idea how anyone gets much beyond day 1 🤕
What an excellent video! Astounding effort by these guys….no idea how they keep going. You captured the event perfectly. Well done 👍🍷
What an amazing, inspiring and entertaining journey. Thank you so much for this video , what an absolute gift 🫶🏻
This captured the event in all its madness beautifully. Running with such elite runners made it all the more memorable. And yes counting is difficult 😂
hahaha we were so confused at one point with how many laps had been completed!! Thank you for watching. It was another epic race this year.
I wouldn't have believed it unless I'd seen it with my own eyes! Great film, well done 👍
Thanks Neil. Glad you enjoyed it.

I aspire to one day be like John Stocker at 38:50
Yep. That cracked me up, what a legend
Absolutely brilluant video.... Big up too the presenter... 🎉x
Thank you kindly!
A very captivating watch, right to the very end.
Cheers Paul
Really great documentary, absolutely engrossing. What incredible individuals and on top of 82 hours of running and sleep deprivation, they can conduct a perfectly lucid interview in a foreign language!
Thanks. Yes it was incredible to be there. The finals in Tennessee should be immense.
This is one of the best films on the channel, very inspiring, thank you ! :)
That's very kind of you to say, thanks
I gotta do one of these. Enjoyed the longer content with some awesome athlete features. Cheers.
You should!
This must have took some editing. Great vid Sreve and team, capturing it all in its true form. Well done
Thanks Gary. These things always take a while when there's so much footage to trawl through!!
Wow just wonderful
It was another incredible race this year with some thrilling moments towards the end. Loved it.
What a wonderful film!
Thank you so much. It was gripping to be there to see them fight it out for so long!
Great report, thanks for making it.
Thank you for watching!!
Nicely filmed and edited. Well done to all the runners.
Thank you so much. Very kind of you to say. And yes, incredible performance but those guys and girls
Wow! Might have to try one of these at some point! Great video!

Nice coverage of this event. Loved the "nice and slow for the first few days" comment at 7:25 :D
Thank you. I know, John is hilarious. He was right though. It was literally a few days!
Great film, as usual. Please, keep on!
Much appreciated. I'll keep making videos as long as people are interested in watching!
Fantastic video, thanks for the work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy Days!

Well done everyone. And fantastic coverage as usual 👏👏
Thank you so much 😀
That was really enjoyable to watch this competition ! Great story perfectly commented !

@FilmMyRun I look forward to watching it just found the site 👍
Great video
Thanks!
This makes me want to give it a go.
I know! It's weird. Why would watching this level of pain and suffering want to make us do it?!
@@FilmMyRun Great vid, love watching your stuff.
Incredible!
Thanks Lauri! See you in Watopia!
Great content.
Thank you so much
I liked tht szilard guy, his attire was like some yogi master who lives deep in the mountains.
How do they run four days without stopping ?
" Sitting down not knowing what he's doing "
What a crazy sport 😂
I thought I run ...
I know it’s madness
@@FilmMyRun are they on caffeine or what ? What do they eat mainly and do they sleep not one bit. So 80 laps is 80 hours ?
23:26 “Do not clap failure” 🤨 failure is the name of the game, just who can fail last
Almost makes me want to run one. What do you think, Stephen, are you going to run one (or perhaps you already have)?
Hi Martin. To be honest, I'm not sure it's for me. I might give one a go one day. But if I'm going to run 200 miles I want it to go somewhere!!
So good to watch runners going to their limits, you never fancied doing it Stephen?
Marc I have never found it in any way appealing. That's not to say I won't ever try one but it's not high on my list of priorities. haha
“stay slow for the first few DAYS” 😂
I know!!! It still amazes me.
Can't believe the Michael Fish comment made the final edit...
It was stuck in a really awkward place. I could have just cut it out but, what the heck, it's funny I guess....

Agree completely. I have no idea what utter rubbish I was spouting then!! If anyone knows about pacing yourself it should be me!
The commentator gets a beard while they are still running😂
The fucking Doktor. Amazing
haha. yea. Amazing
Do they alternate directions once they are down to just a few runners?
No same direction every loop

Yea it's getting mental now.
How can I register on this event
Just search for Suffolk Backyard Ultra. If you want to run in the UK champs you must qualify
It's full how can I qualify for UK champs
@@tomrunner3908 by running a big score at another backyard ultra like Suffolk BYU
I don't think that would happen for me so next year I try to register in time at suffolk
I love the video, but isn't running alongside someone during a lap against the rules?
