    The washers were a great fix and it looks much more sturdy. What might also work is a flat T shaped piece of metal that you can also glue to the poster board. Thanks for doing these videos Joe. We can all learn together.

      Glad they’re helpful. I thought about the t-shaped metal pieces, but I was concerned with just gluing the metal on might not hold up over time. Could certainly work though.

      @@ThePixelDepotLLC the Ts have the holes too, I just added that you could also glue them in addition to screwing them.

    I with you, I've never done a project without 3+ trips to the hardware store. Mending plates, washers, and zipties fix everything 😁 with the gator foam so light I wonder if it would have made sense to build backdrops for the sides for increased support and don't stop there.... Do a valance while you're at it.

    Mistakes are part of the process. Simple fix. Great video.

    Hi Joe, very few YT modeler's will show let alone admit their mistakes ,but will be quick to judge others on their mistakes. I commend you for showing yours, that's a noble and honest thing to do and I greatly admire you for that, Thank you. Now onto the backdrop, I think what you've done to strengthen it up looks great and was a very good idea. Quick question, are you planning on any photo backdrops, and if so what type of adhesive would you use on the gator material? I have "hardy backer" aka masonite board, for mine but I'm thinking of changing to something lighter like the Gator foam. Thank you, Dave B.

      Hi Dave. Thanks for watching! There is a photo backdrop across the entire front of the backdrop. I used Elmer's "Craft Bond" adhesive spray (see around the 9:55 mark in this video: czcams.com/video/hy75EaK_qiE/video.html). That said, I'm pretty sure you could use any adhesive spray, or even white glue or a glue stick. My understanding is that the GATORFOAM surface is essentially wood, so anything that sticks to Masonite and/or adheres to a smooth non porous surface or wood should work. Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure I'll be making many more mistakes! 🙂

    Curious as to why the BD needs to be rigid? I just used 5/16" foam core that slid into a slot at the back of the shelf layout. It doesn't hold anything other than some building flats - no need for anything stronger than that. It's strong enough to mount a canopy with LED lighting if I wanted.

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  Před 3 měsíci +1

      There is no requirement that it's rigid. As you mention, foam core would work fine. The rigidity is more of a personal preference, especially since I was mounting a photo on the backdrop.

    Ya your not a Dunce, if so you better get a bigger garage for the meeting there is alot of us out here. Myself I see a problem, put it down on paper, not thinking anymore about it. Go get materials to fix a problem, to find there was an easier fix or was never a problem at the start, but because I was fixing the non existing problem I made a bigger problem. After afew censored words and stomping of my foot, and doing this hobby for over 30yrs I still do some dum things. You learn with age, ya right more like you learn to cover mistakes up better after years of practice.....lol

    This material looks very flimsy to me. It looks like a piece of foam sandwich between two layers of very light plywood. I can make it better by using some foam-board of choice, and thickness between two layer of Luan (1/8 ply usually used for doors), That will provide rigidity and sturdiness. But, he! I am a carpenter, and look at the practical side of things.

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  Před 11 měsíci

      It is foam with a thin plywood-like veneer. But it’s not flimsy. To be clear, you can’t take a hammer to it, but it’s solid enough that I can carry the layout, backdrop and all, by myself very easily and without much flexing. Now, it wouldn’t be my first choice for a permanent layout, but for something (relatively) temporary and portable it works well, and is easier to work with (IMO) than the foam and luaun sandwich you mention.

      OK. I understand the use and purpose. For myself I would not use this product as I am looking for a more permanent location, using modular approach for potential mobility. Thanks for the feedback. I like your videos.
