As a person of color, I enjoyed seeing the stylist braid and the technique with synthetic hair. I also liked seeing the screen recording of her IG page featuring varying textures. She seems very knowledgeable about the process!
As someone from the desert, Coachella Fest and surrounding celebrations of it are making conditions bad for the lower income and brown communities here.
Really? What's the downside to festival's coming to your area . Love from Scotland xx
Increases housing cost and artificially inflates the local economy increases prices on pretty much everything. And the sudden increase in population puts extra strain on the working class it forces the increase of hours when the workforce has actually grown any in many cases several jobs will refuse to increase hours in just demand more labor during your hours that you are there
I’ve never been to a festival but they look fun! Love all the hair styles 💛
Really cute! I haven't been to a Festival in 40+ years but they were a lot of fun.
Love how she explained the whole process
Tbh, I don't think the issue is appropriation, as braids are kind of universal - they were also popular between Vikings, Medieval European, Native American, and so on, each for their own cultural reasons. But black communities have faced discrimination for doing their hair in certain braided styles and the same communities that did so are the ones using that style now, like It's only acceptable when white people wear it.
Also the disrespect when cultural elements are used just because they are ‘fashionable’ or ‘trendy’ like Henna, bindis, etc. Without any appreciation for it. It's someone else's history, not plain festival fashion. As long as you get that, I don't have an issue.
That part.
It’s the double standard. If a black girl where to do her hair like this she would be perceived as ghetto not trendy.
@@Lara-SM I was passionately agreeing
Yeah I don’t think this is appropriation either. She literally looks like she came from space
Amanda 🤗 enjoy the Festivities ... Obviously you found the joy already... Loving your style of clothing..
Happy Spring Festivals 🌷 Amanda
Hearing You Out Is Amazing ...
Thank you Refinery 29
I love her confidence!
Is anyone else really happy to see all the positivity in the comments??? Finally a supportive and optimistic comment thread! 🙌🏼
?????? Where would the negatively come from ?
Well good thing she does not want to take it out🙈
Take it from a Former Ballroom dancer...this will take her forever to get out. Especially brushing out the eyelash glue....I found bits of it for weeks in my hair after competitions. And the yellow hairspray we call spray glue as it literally glues your hair in place if you use it woth a blow dryer^^
Gurl, you are SO festival ready! Go kick BUTT out there with your gorgeous self!!
Thank you 🤗✨
Omg this looks so amazing
YES I SEE YOU! I love it!
Happy Easter everyone
The top of that braid looks really sketch and like she didn’t feed it in right.
She has such great hair,so jelly!also love love love the pink braids🤸♀️
One thing though,I have a big forehead myself so I don’t get why they had to pull allllll of her hair BACK but at least she’s happy!
Iconic.
Gorgeous!!!
I wonder if the rhinestones hurt to sleep on. Otherwise, this is super cool and a great idea for a festival. I also wonder how much it cost.
Very pretty 🌸🌸
Wow! I'm jealous!
i love it😍🤩🤩🤩so gorgoes babe
Holy headache. I could wear that for a few hours then GET IT OFF 💀
Love!
Interestingggggggggggg!
Beautiful
I love how everyone is saying I love this look…though black ladies have been doing this since foreva
And I know a lot of cultures have braiding within their cultures but it’s more of the colors and the eccentric look that people often try to emulate of black culture
Every group of people has records of braiding their hair in a specific way.
Yes, like was it necessary to lay her edges down? You can’t possibly tell me that white people have been laying their edges down for centuries 🙄.
I completely understand your point of knowing how different people and cultures have influenced on others. However not once In this video did anyone pretend they invented anything new and infact it was mentioned the influences behind the look she wanted to achieve.
@@smax333 why is it when someone gives recognition for something that has been largely promoted or a part of black culture someone like you pops up with some kind if correction? Let it babe. She is giving props where it belongs.
She’s giving credit where credit is due, why bring ppl down now? Don’t we all want equality And acceptance?? In méxico braids have been a thing for centuries And some of our Mexican fellas are still getting criticize for wearing braids when it’s been part of our culture for centuries 🤦🏻♂️
Bomb
How beautiful
Beautiful nice👍
*This is a plait, not a braid. Plaits have been worn by women and girls in many cultures, as well as dreadlocks and thick braids. This particular style looks more like Indian hairstyles, specifically the Punjabi Paranda, and the South Indian Jada Billa.*
How long will that braid last?
The video said 3-7 days
@@ballroommuzicka1037 I totally missed that. Thanks.
Wow, people are getting upset with people getting hair done for Coachella, which not a lot of people can afford. In Memphis, we only worry about stray bullets or triggering the wrong person. Hell I haven't seen a protest over the Beale Street shooting
Cant stop thinking about how much that’s going to hurt when she takes it out. Gorgeous tho
It actually didn’t hurt AT ALL. Super painless. It did hurt to have in though…. That ponytail was TIGHT.
@@AmandaLaurena wait your the girl in the video 😮
It looks so cool but my hair hurts looking at how tight the pony is! ❤️
Doesnt this reduce your hairline?
It can, if proper procedure of protection isn't used ..
Or long use of braids
this is so euphoria
It’s the mentioning of cultural appropriation then acting on it for me… its the not mentioning of any cultural inspiration / appreciation from her or the stylist. And for the people who say “Vikings wore their hair in braids too” well she didn’t mention Vikings either so still a lack cultural appreciation 🤨
Who gives a shit? You just WANT to be upset about it. You can't fault someone for being uncultured. Just silently pity them and move on.
@@GrplrZrn I give a shit🙃 this is not all the girls fault… @refinery29 is at fault too for missing the mark with this video… any acknowledgment of any culture or inspiration would have made this video better . So instead of acting like there isn’t an issue we should teach the “uncultured” as you put it. 😬😬😬😬
Isn’t it just a colourful plait? As far as I’m aware, Vikings aren’t around anymore but their descendants are and I’m not sure if they care about one braid that’s done in loads of places.
That’s where they always go wrong not acknowledging their “inspo”. Non black women getting fun festival styles (like adding colorful hair) I don’t think is appropriating. The stylist however is a diff story. I think a lot of the techniques and products used were appropriated. I don’t think she would’ve known to use them had she, or whoever taught her, not seen or been studying the techniques/products black stylists use and how they use them. A lot of women who don’t have course hair don’t need to find and create ways to keep their hair laid down and in these styles to the extent we do . I know black women aren’t the only culture to wear “braids” or wear extensions but the way we wear weave and install it is unique to our hair and is also used as a protective style not just a style for fun. So I think that’s where appropriation comments are coming from. And someone pointing that out doesn’t mean they’re “negative”. Saw someone say they’re glad this is a “positive thread” !! Which I’m guessing meant glad no one is really speaking on what you spoke on lol
@@mandeep3.14 yes it is a colorful plait… but this one plait was inspired by several different cultures, and several different stylist. This video has been uploaded to this platform on a channel that has over 3 million subscribers and has over 20k views. this one plait sparked this conversation and will continue to do so due to the lack of acknowledgment of the inspiration and credit for which she said was important then failed elaborate on.
It’s extremely upsetting to watch both the girl and stylist, act as if this style, this slicked back ponytail with laid edges and colorful braid extension just popped into their heads from thin air.
So it’s not just as simple as a colorful plait. Refinery29 could have done better!!!
🙂
Who's Amanda
No glitter at burning man please. 🙏
This girl is getting a style for Coachella not burning man which is silly because Coachella isn’t that dirty and dusty
@@efolinsky they showed a picture of burning man. 🤷🏼♀️
@@suzyb.4231 exactly! I was like oh oh that will cause moop for sure!
That half assed “acknowledgement” of the inherent cultural appropriation that comes with “festival braids” did nothing for me. You can’t say you have to acknowledge the history of these styles without actually doing that. These styles came from BLACK women, and we wear them every day in many different colors and arrangements to protect our hair and help us feel confident. Yes- these styles are for fun, but they are also to protect our specific hair texture, and many of us have dealt with being made fun of for wearing these same styles. Personally- I don’t think these styles look flattering on those with straight hair- probably because they were never meant for them 😬 but to each their own- just be respectful 🤷🏽♀️
No...she should've worn a more flattering jumpsuit lol but I'm loving the 💕Gas station worker on Saturn💕 vibes
How is she paying for all these festivals???
A lot going on here
I wonder how much she paid at that salon, when could've just weny to someone house
She wouldn't have to cut it off due to dust...hyperbole...
that looks painful\
…mmm
I -
She looks like reponzzal
Looks so painful
She would have been better if she had a beautiful sister to have braided it. it doesn't look as neat it could have been way more tighter it's the way you have to grip the hair and the way. she did it is not the standard better looking way.🤐🤦🏻♀️🤷🏼♀️ to create the big braid but it's okay. 🥴 for her and I'm glad that she's comfortable with it but I've seen way better, the pink is very pretty very soft and fun and that's what counts in the end she liked it great. 🤯🤔🧐🌹🐇🌼💯💯‼️
Not everyone wants it so tight that it looks like littles snakes and so tight its ripping hairs out and causing alopecia
Really unflattering on her.
“I will have to cut me hair off”….. girl bye 🤮
What?
appropriation
it is literally just a colorful three strand braid in a ponytail...not cornrows or box braids or anything...literally just a braided ponytail. "laying her edges" was a stretch but the style is not exclusive to any culture. if you've ever been to a festival you'll know it's dusty and you often can't wash your hair there. the dust can cause tangling and matting pretty quick. nothing wrong with her protecting her hair with a simple braid
Sure is!
😳🙄
@@thesinglemomsummit2618 what??
Oh my goodness, boiling water! As far as I know, hot water is damaging.
I said the same thing🤦🏽♀️
Y’all dont understand
Vikings had braid too. Come on now
Vikings didn’t lay their edges
@@gracew8396 loool definitely not
vikings didn't do their edges, nor did they do feed-in braids. so respectfully, shut up because this isn't for you to speak on if you aren't black.
