- You track me down to the Wade Centre in Wheaton where they have, amongst other treasures, the Wardrobe!
If you'd like to encourage me with coffee and cake you can do so here. thanks! www.buymeacoffee.com/malcolmg... - Hudba
I just love Malcolm’s energy and obvious love for literature. These videos fill me with that same infectious love. God bless! 🙏
Glad you enjoy it!
The man’s an absolute treasure. He’s got me reading The Wind in the Willows as 49 years old 😊
Malcolm is the walking advertisement of why would one want to visit Great Britain 😊
"The temptation is almost overwhelming" ! Lol . That was outstanding... Mr Malcolm is a living legend!
Malcolm is like the real-life Dumbledore or some similar character 🪄
Somebody put this man in the movies!
Someday, my grandchildren will go to Wheaton and sit at the desk of Malcolm Guite, marvel at all of the books in the memorial library.
I had a similar thought. Here’s a modern Lewis or Tolkien, let’s not take him for granted.
Marvelous! It would have been hard not to step inside that wardrobe!❤
This was so amazing, Malcolm. I enjoyed every second of this. I’ll be watching this many times over as I begin to relax with my pipe. Thank you!
Your evident pleasure in being at the Wade Centre brought a smile to my face, too. Thank you, Malcolm, what a tonic!
I recognize some friends I made while doing research there! Hello!
Oh Malcolm, you dear man. You just made my 10 year old son's week (& mine) giving us this special tour! And thank you so much for writing The Word in the Wilderness. We are treasuring it every morning. With blessings from Tx.
Like a kid in a candy store! Wow and even a fireplace to read by. Joy.
America is blessed to have Malcolm Guite...
I've only just "discovered Malcolm", like some wonderful new continent! I feel there's so much more to wander through.
This reminded me that I need to finish the Silmarillion and buy some more Capstan.
Stunning museum. Tolkien and Lewis are Wizards just like yourself 🧙🏼♂️
Such a lovely video! I would love to hear you talk about Spenser’s Faerie Queene. CS Lewis had some wonderful commentary on it. Breaks my heart that it’s rarely taught (even at universities) anymore.
Yeats said of it - "so visionary, so full of ghostly midnight animation, that one is persuaded tht they had some strange purpose and did truly appear in just that way."
Well, I for one did teach the Faerie Queene -- anyway Book I -- when I was a college teacher. Now here's the thing: how to introduce undergrads to it? I thought the chief thing was that they should (begin to) love the Faerie Queene; it was really not necessary to lay out all the topical references to persons and events of the time, nor, certainly, did I desire to bore or fuddle them with trendy Theory. We used the Canon Press paperback, Fierce Wars and Faithful Loves ... and the book was a success, semester after semester. I do recommend this reader-friendly -- almost too friendly in a few of the notes -- edition. It's Spenser but in a modernized text (i.e. "knight" not "knyght," etc.), not a paraphrase. You are right about Lewis's nearly lifelong love of the Faerie Queene. There are good essays (to get someone started) in the Medieval and Renaissance Literature volume, and good thoughts in his English Literature of the 16th Century volume, and of course Spnser's Images of Life for the person who's ready to delve into the whole poem in some depth. May I recommend Graham Hough's Preface to the Faerie Queene?
Yes I'll definitely do something on the Faerie Queene
You made me smile with your enthusiasm from the first second to the last. Felt like I'd opened a found box, and found treasures
Wonderful words in verse from Tolkien. So wise and inspired.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Such a treat. Thank you for a glimpse of the Wardrobe.
Wonderful, Malcolm. Further up and further in...
What a wonderful library and museum. I could not help but think how if you could smoke your pipe there it would be a foretaste of paradise. (Not that Lewis or Tolkien, and no doubt Williams, would have minded!)
indeed!
Thank for sharing this moment of sheer joy and delight. Brilliant.
THE wardrobe! 😊
Such an amazing place. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful, encouraging words and such a beautiful place!
What a treat, it was amazing to see Tolkien's desk. Thank you Malcolm and company.
So good to see you out and about, Malcolm! I so appreciate your priceless Vlog. Gods blessings!
Loved this, Mr. Guite! Thank you! 😍♥️
It IS wonderful, truly wonderful.📚❤🙏
What a magical place.
Thanks for sharing, Malcolm, I do hope to finally visit the Wade this year!
A fabulous reading Malcom, and this place definitely goes on my bucket list!
Thanks Malcolm, very interesting 👍
Absolutely tremendous, it sounds like this is a must visit! Great to see you my friend, hope all is well. Wishing you a wonderful spring and summer from your Canadian friend.
I could listen to Malcolm Guite speak for hours. Great video Malcom! VERY COOL collection here.
Hi Malcom! Your videos are so warm and lovely. Thank you for giving us little bits of peace in the day. ♥
What a lovely place to be!
More awesomeness
The Wardrobe…and…the desks of both CS Lewis and Tolkien….too 😲😲😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😊 I must….visit that place in Illinois one day 😊🇺🇸
Hey, Lester! It's on my bucket list!
Splendid! Enjoy your stay dear Malcom. Kindest regards, S
Thank you for sharing this!
Goodness I wish I could run into this man in a place like this!
I absolutely love your content!! It is so soothing to me. I listen to wind down and thank you for all that you do. To make every video feel like a chance meeting with an old friend. I’m 24 and I’ll watch this over any new show any day
thanks!
I had no idea Tolkien wrote such a poem! Thank you!
What a treat, Malcolm, thank you! This is a gem. I live in Iowa and now that this is brought to my attention I’ll have to take a visit! Would’ve loved to hear you speak-do you have a lecture itinerary in the states? It’s on my bucket list-to hear you speak in person 🙂 You are a blessing!
Thanks. I'm doing some events in Seattle in early june. look up 'faith and the imagination Seattle'
Good to find you, although I miss the pipe!
Just amazing Malcolm. First, that such a collection exists 5 hours from my home in Iowa and second, that you my friend are also, 5 hours from my home in Iowa.
Such a small world it is. Enjoy your time here in the Midwest.
Having a pipe and a nip of whiskey in your honor as I write this.
Be well,
Stephen
Wonderful, thank you so much.😊
You're welcome 😊
Thank you
I want to go into the wardrobe Malcolm just to rediscover that little bit of childhood magic CSLewis wrote so beautifully about
and as for Aslan true love and affection for humanity just shines through him. Where did I put my copy of The Lion the witch
and ...............??
Inspiring!
Malcolm if you are still there, can you take us on a tour of Narnia, as you happen to be in the same location as the wardrobe.
Thank you again Malcolm for this amazing visit to the Wade Collection.
if only!!
I was smiling the whole way though.
That was a wonderful video, Malcolm. Are the desks on loan to the Wade Centre from the families of the writers?
It disappoints me that both Lewis and Tolkiens desks now reside in an American museum.
yes. I have been able to see them there but there are many English readers and lovers of the Inklings who dont get that chance
Sympathise with the sentiment, but given the treasures from all over the world that reside in the British museum...
@@simonsimon325 I'd happily give everything in the British museum back
Some of my literary heroes, Tolkien, Lewis,
Chesterton, Macdonald. But I think I would be afraid to look at the back of the wardrobe.
Absolutely, creative people made by a creator god👍
So many reasons not to go to America.....but you've just given me a very good reason in that library.
Happy Easter, Father! I look forward to your next video. Is it forthcoming soon?
Yes, soon, in fact today, been away travelling and then got Covid
Always a joy
That was wonderful - but did no-one else feel a little sorry for the wardrobe? Placed stiffly in pristine and careful surroundings, always on show and on its best behaviour, when it belongs in lived-in room of a creaking, rambling old house. Still, lovely to see it.
yes, but perhaps its doors open at night and children come to play...
@@MalcolmGuitespell Now that is a good thought. Or not just children. Doorways open in both directions, so who knows who finds themselves in our world? I wonder what they make of it. It might be good to see it through their eyes and wonder.
Will you be making any visits to the DC or Baltimore areas?
This is only a 30 minute drive from me and I had no idea it existed! Wow..
Malcom come through Oak Park, IL this Sunday if you want to come to the Traditional Latin Mass.
💚💚💚✨
Malcolm, are you alright? Miss your videos
have been in the states, then had covid, just back up on my feet
@@MalcolmGuitespell I hope you get patched up. I’ll pray for your continued healing.
I hope you are well. When will your next spell-in-the-library video come out? It has been a month, and we miss you.
sorry for the delay, been in the states and then ill with covid, am posting a new one today!
