    ---------------------------
    I feel the shadows now upon me
    And the angels beckon to me
    Before I go dear sisters and brothers
    Won't you come and sing for me
    Sing those hymns we sang together
    In that plain little church with the benches all worn
    How dear to my heart how precious the moments
    We stood shaking hands and singing the songs
    My burden is heavy my way has grown weary
    I have traveled a road that is long
    And it would warm this old heart my dear brother
    If you'd come and sing me one song
    In my home beyond the dark river
    Your sweet faces no more I will see
    Until we meet where there'll be no sad parting
    Won't you come and sing for me

    Hazel Dickens RIP. Great job on one of the great American composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

    And the fun part is, as pretty and easy on the ears this is, it's amazingly easy to do

    Keep coming back to this one, I agree with Andrew Myers if something should take me from this world this rendition would be the arrangement to send me on my way.

    They are actually playing a simple 3-chord progression, with the shapes D, G, and A. Because it's capoed at the 2nd fret, the chords are actually rendered as E, A and B major. (I IV, V.) She's only a child, but has the voice of an angel!

      G shape at capo 3 is Bb

      Right, which begs the question, Why didn't they pick it out of C at fret 4 where the picking is much easier and very common. These two don't need things made easy and it sounds great, no doubt they could dispense with the capo all together.

  • @yonderthemountaintop1993

    What's the chord progression here, anyone?

    • @gwynnevans1282
      @gwynnevans1282 Před 7 lety

      It's in the key of A with the capo on, played in G. The G is an intro chord and the first chord is D.
      Verse: D-C-G; D-C-G; D-C-G; D-C-G; The chorus is C-G; D-C-G; C-G; D-C-G. At least that's what I've come up with so far. Good luck. It's a great song by the lady from West Virginia!

    • @gwynnevans1282
      @gwynnevans1282 Před 7 lety +1

      Sorry - typo - it's in the key of G not A.

    • @gwynnevans1282

      Whoops, it is in the key of A, played in G as stated originally. I haven't had any coffee today!

      actually they're playing in E (D shape w/ capo 2), it's just that the verse starts on the V and the chorus starts on the IV
