I would have put double glazed wood windows in that match the originals. Every modern addition takes away from the character of the home. Wonder why this chateau isn't graded for protection?
Wood is a waste and requires too much upkeep and they would be right back where they are now in no time due to the weather etc…no one is going to mind they are not wood framed windows. They look gorgeous and serve a larger purpose.
@@laurahosler1771 I was not saying the windows were not beautiful, nor that other choices than the original material was wrong (in any restoration, original material is just a better choice, but sometimes it is just too costly) 🙂 That is why I rather pointed that wood windows are extremely expensive (not only the purchase but also the maintenance), especially when there are so many windows to fix 😉
On the sign, I can read only a few words, the fancy font is too hard to read, but the date 1877 is repeated a few times. The memorial at the bottom - the date of death is December 16, 1729.

You have the Salamander stove to go with the fireplace in your locked room! WOW - it's gorgeous! You have to get it repaired, someone who works with cast iron (I presume?). Even if it's never lit again, it will look magnificent 😊❤ The cart is beautiful, as are all the other stoves, including the green art noveau one. Bit of detective work to find out where all the little stoves went, although I'm guessing the servants' quarters and cottages. The wallpaper is gorgeous, reminds me a little of a dark toned Monet.

Those Cast iron wood stoves are worth a bit hard to find now . I love the character of them , the locked room has some treasures thats for sure . @@brettthomas6020 It will take me some time to work it out. There are abbreviations which I don't know offhand and the lettering is also tricky to understand in places. I taught classical Latin, but this is more Medieval Latin.
What a beautiful building/house. Who wouldn't want to go exploring in it. Also, the history of it is fascinating. Who lived there, what were they like, etc. all so interesting!
Why would you plaster up that wonderful stone work in this cellar? It would look so much more authentic if you only would repair where repair is necessary, it was also never plastered ever before!😢

The cave is so much work and I can’t wait to see it finished. The wallpaper is stunning!!! It is sad to see the old windows go, but they served their purpose for many, many years. You copied them as best you could which is great. The new windows are so much better and are beautiful. ❤

That looks like so much fun. I loved restoring the farm house I had. I would do it again. I’ve done ceiling repair, my place was so old it had horse hair mixed in with the plaster. No idea where they got enough horse hair to do all the walls.
Harry should wear at LEAST N-95 Particulate mask while cutting stone, slate, tiles, etc. The fine clay & stone silica particulates are known carcinogens. We want Harry to have a long, happy life. ❤️🙏
Your version of "pointing" in that cellar was incredibly painful to watch. That stonework was great and with proper pointing would would be stunning. Especially covering the doorway stones. 😢 Those are a feature not a problem.

That looks like so much fun. I loved restoring the farm house I had. I would do it again. I’ve done ceiling repair, my place was so old it had horse hair mixed in with the plaster. No idea where they got enough horse hair to do all the walls.

Your version of "pointing" in that cellar was incredibly painful to watch. That stonework was great and with proper pointing would would be stunning. Especially covering the doorway stones. 😢 Those are a feature not a problem.

Oh those old horse stalls! How many horses lived there, that were used for pulling carriages for the residents.
on the other side of the outbuildings are more stables. But couldn’t tell you how many really would have been here. But love all the old barns ☺️
