Just wanted to let you know, I saw this video and decided to go for it on my 2014 Lancer GT. I picked up 7443ST bulbs that were blue, had to knock out the little tabs just like you said, but I didn't have to bend any of the leads around. Best part is, if it ever burns out, because the ST bulb is double filamented, I should be able to flip the bulb over in the socket and keep going. Thanks for the info, I would have never known about this otherwise.
In the US turn signals must be either amber or pure white in the front. Amber or red can be used in the rear. Anything else is illegal. The bulbs in this video are too blue. Blue is reserved for police. purple and green are for sanitation and other service vehicles. Bottom line is to not do this to your car unless you want to have trouble with the cops.
I added amber leds from ebay, still get the amber turn signal with out the amber look when it's off. of course without a resistor it hyper flashes, but I like that.
Sorry to rain your parade. But 7440 bulbs are offered in clear. If your painting the bulb anyway you may want to explore that route so you don't have to break the clip in the bulb receptacle. Also as another user mentioned, if you break the clip you won't have to bend the extra contacts on the bulb. 7440 and 7443 are the same shape, 7443 is a dual filament bulb.... The curse of working in a parts store.
