Catscratch was one heck of a fun show that didn't last too long on Nickelodeon, but deserved more attention on it. Who knows, maybe Catscratch could have had a season 2. But today let's look into Catscratch, what it's about, what happened to it and some information behind the production.

As a kid I always found weird how all of these different cats were meant to be brothers of a same litter (or that Waffles is a cat at all), but some years ago I learned that female cats can indeed get pregnant _with multiple fathers_

Cat genetics are also just really weird. I once had a cat that only had one father of her kittens and somehow none of them looked like each other and only one looked like each of the parents. The other five were the most odd assortment of colors and patterns.

As a kid, I remember being really confused and uncomfortable with why a cat would be in love with a human child. (Especially since he sounds like an adult). I remember thinking, "okay, that's kinda weird."
Let's not forget they did introduce a female cat into the series

I never thought it was weird. They were never really treated like humans that look like cats like say, Bojack Horseman. They were clearly cats. And I don’t think he wanted to do weird things to her. Lol
This is absolutely on one of the few Nicktoons shows i remember. Probably because of the combination of the character designs, the character voices, and that absolute bop earworm of a theme song.
But, honestly kinda loved the theme not gonna lie man...

Catscratch absolutely deserved better. This was a big throwback for me as I always thought this show was underrated
Sad to say, most Nicktoons since the mid 2000's have a life span of 2 seasons.
Man, I remember back then a lotta Nicktoons were hardly promoted or were big hits like back in the 90's, and early 00's they were literally killed off the channel.
Teenage Robot got 3 and Danny Phantom got 3. Blame Spongebob one of the best cartoons ever.

waffles design is so genuinely perfect- i love the proportions and the extra folds around his legs he has such character
I used to have a crush on him. There is something wrong with me.
The cats not having noses always bothered me, even as a kiddo.
That is what happens when you become a stranger to animated cartoons on television and other likes of the media.

It's so weird that Nick decided to have a McDonald's happy meal tie in for a show that last 1 season.

It's always interesting to see kids shows originate from morbid comic books or illustrations (Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy comes to mind.) This series came out around the time I stopped watching Nick shows, so watching this video was interesting. I had no idea the show got as zany as it did and appreciate you showing all of us!

I use to love this show. But It was sometimes pretty disturbing. Like the slug scene. But I guess all shows are disturbing.

I can only imagine that they where trying to justify it as oh cats can be very loving animals towards humans.

I remember one thing about Catscratch (okay, make that five bar the theme song): the butler, the character design, the Giant Charlotte root beer gag (actually, their obsession with root beer in general too), the sleepover episode, and the zombie episode.

Catscratch actually was the first Nicktoon I was obsessed with as a kid. I remember recording ALL the new episodes on VHS, watching new episodes, getting the McDonalds toys, and the DVDs. I feel like without Catscratch, I wouldn't have gotten into animation and eventually went to college to study Animation.

Absolutely adored this show when I was younger. Even now as a grownup I sometimes randomly sing the theme song opening.
Even though I watched a lot of Catscratch when it was on, I only remember the 2005 run, but none of the episodes from 2006, or the series finale from 2007.
If the show ever got a second season, I could totally see Katilda being a mainstay character, maybe a special where Kimberly gets older and grows out of unicorns, etc.

I remember this series’ premiere. I was coming home from a vacation and after the plane ride home, it was on. I liked it from the theme song alone. It’s a creative concept and deserved more love! (Even if the creator himself isn’t exactly the nicest person)

@@Usermaynot He’s racist, homophobic and transphobic. Also has a tendency of lashing out at criticism regarding him or his projects. Just look up his name with the word “controversy” and you’re sure to get a few hits on him.

The joke about Kimberly’s 3 friends Caitlin, Kaitlin, and CHARLOTTE is for some reason engrained in my subconscious and will come out at random times to completely consume my productivity.

Catscratch was one of the very few things my dad and I bonded over, we both thought it was great at the time and still quote some of the more memorable lines to each other. It's got such a weird, warm place in my heart.
Oh my god, I completely forgot about CatScratch, that show was my jab, until it was wiped from T.V and then i forgot about it.
watching catscratch at my great grandma's house in 2005 is literally one of my earliest memories. i was 5. super nostalgic.
I was 9. Watching on that flat Panasonic flat screen tv from 2004 on YTV. Damn time flies.
It's a travesty that this show isn't on Paramount+ yet.
Once you mentioned Nick magazine I had a flood of flashbacks to summers reading them and doing all the activities on them. Maybe a video about them would be nice
I actually had the honor of having Doug Tennapel for a couple of college classes for one semester. He was a professor for a short time and was awesome to meet in person he had so many great stories and it was great working alongside with him each time in class

This show was a crucial part of my childhood and I'm glad to see other people miss it.
I loved catscratch. The flash games were lit, the theme song a banger
I remember this show being very good and that's a lot to be said since Avatar, Danny Phantom and My Life As A Teenage Robot were all in play at this time too.
I would love these cats in the upcoming Nick All Star Brawl :) even if they end up having to be DLC.

Also fun fact in The DS version of Nicktoons Attack of the toy bots Mr Blink is playable so at least it got to be part of one of those crossover games.

Katilda was Ronnie Anne before It was cool despite being underrated and have a soft spot for her back then and the writers clearly couldn't decided to make her a love Interest for Blake or just neighbor girl who just there yo tease him from time to time but was harmless.

Good to see that catscratch still lingers in the mind of some people. I enjoyed the show as a kid. Nick really needs to put alot of their hidden gems on dvd instead of putting things like spongebob and other nick classics on there repeatedly.
I get a warm feeling like no other when I think back on this show. Such a great time to grow up under Nickelodeon, just a shame it only got 1 season.
Would love to one day have some sort of online watch party with all of us few that still remember this.

I only got a perspective on the german dub of the show but I have really fond memories of it, mostly because, as you said, all the jokes just land. It never failed to get at least a chuckle out of me. I would also like to note something, I can't believe how much obscure shows you watched and liked that I also watched and liked. I just finished watching like 8 videos of yours because I either forgot about those shows or wanted to get some nostalgia and an opinion on it. Keep 'em coming!

I think if nickelodeon gave it a chance, it would've became a classic like the other nicktoons. The x's was out around the same time as this show & I enjoyed that show. It had potential being an action show & all. Guess we'll just never know.
I agree. I think if the show was successful, it would last for two additional seasons with 20 episodes each. One of the season 2 episodes would be a Christmas special.
On top of that, there would be a few episodes focusing on Kimberly.

Try watching the anime Sgt. Frog. This alien frog wants to take over the earth but fails in every episode. He stuck with this family on earth. There is a mom, an older sister, and a little brother. The mom lets him stick around because she is a manga editor and uses his life as inspiration for her work. He is very lazy. he watches tv and builds Gundam models when he should be plotting to take over the world. Other members of his platoon are stuck on earth too. They meet up in the secret base in the basement. One of the characters Geroro the Angry serious one is in love with Natsumi the sweet responsible older sister who can have a short temper.

When I was a kid, I thought "Yeah, ~8 year old cat likes 8 year old kid. Makes sense." Now that burly Scottish voice interested in that little girl disturbs me!

I loved this show when it came out. Doug's art style and humor have always been a plus for me.
This could’ve been the next SpongeBob, since Nick is always looking for it. Too bad they keep getting rid of all them before they can become SpongeBob’s successor. Those executives are so indecisive.
Agreed, because what pissed me off about TeenNick's NickRewind?? was that they replaced Invader Zim with Danny Phantom on their schedule, I remember growing up with that show along with Wayside and this show as well.

I feel like this show came out during a critical part of my childhood, and imprinted itself into my brain more than a show with that small of a run time should have. Almost feels like it was a fever dream.
The theme song lives rent free in my head and I love it. Waffle’s newts are the reason I got geckos as pets as an adult. My fiancé and I are getting a cat and I’m demanding his/her name be Waffle. Thank you for your video on a loved part of my childhood.

Thank you so much for talking about catscratch 🙂 I truly feel like this show doesn't get enough love, I know for sure I am still a huge fan of it, in fact I actually wrote about waffle *in a mini series I typed called the top 5 characters that saved me from 2020, which is interesting because my favorite when the show first aired was Gordon, but as I got older, waffle took the spot for me, 🙂❤ his simple design and lovable attitude is really relatable, splee!!!!!!!!
Heck I even wrote to Doug tenaple about the show not being available in any media, no dvd or blu ray release, not even on paramount plus 😭 I was really hoping to see the show again, at least thankfully I have a few episodes recorded thanks to DVR on cable.

This is, IMO, one of Nickelodeon’s most underrated shows (if not, THE most).
This does deserve better, it was funny and love the intro. Loved watching it.
Also Catscratch was loosely adapated from Gear (image comics) which is very different and kinda weird.

Jordan I just started watching you but you always pull cartoons out of the back of my brain I forgot I watched when I was a child.
I remembered watching a few episodes of this show as a kid, but I never got to watch the rest of the show until 2019.
It’s a shame about the show being forgotten because Catscratch was the first Nicktoon to came out after Avatar TLA (which was a huge success compared to the subsequent Nicktoons), and then we got a few one season wonders, as well as several CGI animated Nicktoons (in which there’s very little new 2D animated shows around 2008-2012).
As much as I loved this show, the only episode I can remember watching is the one when they were at sea taking on giant squids.
I really loved this show as a kid. I even wanted to have a black cat named Blik because Blik was my most favourite character. I really love black cats thanks to him lol
Their Flash Game, This Means War, is pure nostalgia. Blik was my main and is still my main.

I love Catscratch! 3:10 Mr. Blik is my favorite character, not only he made me laugh with his bad behavior, bad temper, and bad attitude (due to being bossy and snobbish) which is what Wayne Knight will do, but being a black cat reminded me of my own black cat at home. He's one of my favorite fictional black kitties along with Luna from Sailor Moon, Bagheera from Disney's the Jungle Book, and Binx from Hocus Pocus (not sure if I count Sylvester from Steve Cash's Talking kitty cat series on YT). Apart from Blik being a cat version of Eddie from Ed Edd and Eddy, I also love to imagine anyone portrayed Mr. Blik as other grumpy characters from different shows/movies like Grumpy from Disney's Snow White, Kirby the Vaccum Cleaner from "The Brave Little Toaster", Mr. Threehorn (Cera's dad or Daddy Topps) from "The Land Before Time" franchise, Rex from "Babe", Kerchack from "Disney's Tarzan" (though both Tantor and Blik voiced by Wayne Knight himself, but Kerchack is bossier like Mr. Blik), and Makuu the Crocodile from "Disney Junior's the Lion Guard". That's why Mr. Blik's my favorite character!
