  • Just recently I have noticed the Multi Media Interface screen in the dashboard of my 2008 Audi A4 has got darker and is at the highest brightness setting.
    It would seem that the back light bulb is failing so it time to swap the unit.
    I sourced the new screen for only £25 and as you will see its a fairly straightforward job to swap them.
    Enjoy the video and hopefully it will give you the information to swap yours if it has become faulty.
    Remember to check out my other videos for more how to's and it would be great if you could click Like and Subscribe.
    Take care,

      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 2 lety +1

      Its surprisingly straight forward, just make sure you dont turn on the ignition when the hazard warning button is disconnected as that will log an airbag fault that needs cleared with a scanner.

    Is it also possible to replace the mono-chrom screen of an old audi a4 (2008) with a color screen or are there different configurations ?

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm afraid I wouldn't know. I suppose it would all be down to the software running the screen.

      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, I did open mine and I was able to remove the failed back light but I found that there were no spares available and in the end it was less than £30 to replace the full unit so easier just to do that. I'm sure if you look long enough you will find a screen that could be made to fit.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 2 lety

      I'm sure it will be exactly the same process on all A4 B8's. The only difference may be in the screen functions but I'm sure that would be controlled by the head unit. The thing you MUST remember is DO NOT turn on the ignition with the hazard switch and airbag light disconnected or you will need vcds to clear the airbag fault code.

    Hey - recently got a bad jump from a buddy and looks like the MMI display and the radio controls took the hit (no power to radio and display is black). I ordered a replacement display but is there anything else that needs replacement? I really don't want to take it to a dealership and get whacked :(

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 3 lety

      Have you checked through all your fuses? No power to the stereo would suggest the fuse blew. Has anything else stopped working? Check through the fuses at the end of the dash and the fuses in the boot. I had a non functioning 12v socket on my centre console and it was a fuse in the boot panel.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 3 lety

      It would be a good place to start. Perhaps try removing the screen and checking that the plug is connected properly and not showing any sign of damage/corrosion. If that dosnt fix it then try a new screen unit but remember not to try it with the airbag light and hazard warning button disconnected.

    • @AstonishingGlasgow
      @AstonishingGlasgow  Před 3 lety

      My radio came with bluetooth and I think it is because it has a hands free phone set up. Behind the dash panel above my right knee I found a non factory black box wired in while I was fitting a dash cam via the fuse box. I assume this is whats giving me bluetooth.

      I would need to double check but I'm sure the the unit in my car is the Symphony stereo. Sound is great and it takes a 2gb SD card so loads of my tunes are available.
