The other big ship is the USS Laffey, the last of the Allen M. Sumner-class destroyers. Besides WWII and the Vietnam War, the USS Yorktown also helped recover the Apollo 8 mission (first crewed to leave Earth's low orbit and reach the Moon) in 1968 as well. The USS Laffey also served in WWII, helping conduct airstrikes in the Philippines and do landings on Leyte and Mindoro. It was badly damaged by a kamikaze assault (six crashed into it) that killed 32 and wounded 71. After WWII, the Laffey served during the Korean War and the Suez crisis.

Those tours are very worthwhile. I thoroughly enjoyed them. However, be aware there is LOTS of walking and LOTS of stair climbing. The stairs are not like at home either. These are naval warship stairs. They are very steep. So be sure you are able bodied and in reasonable shape before doing these tours. If not you will not enjoy them and you will probably prevent the people with you from enjoying them.
Just a little heads up. I thoroughly enjoyed them in my 30’s, but I now, in my mid 50’s, I have some physical limitations and would not even consider doing the tours today. It’s not the years though, it’s the mileage.

The bridge you went over at 20:05 is the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The third-longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere, though not one of the longest in the world as China dominates the top five. Arthur Ravenel Jr. was a politician who specifically ran for the South Carolina Senate just to get funding for the bridge. The bridge is home to the annual USA Track & Field 10K meters/6.2 miles Cooper River Bridge Run on the first weekend of April. This event attracts up to 50K people. The route starts in Mount Pleasant and finishes in downtown Charleston at Marion Square.

On the rolling, lights always at 100% and then find the shutter speed that matches. 1/60 or 1/50 is typical on 120V/240V leds. The DC leds are usually lower. Around 1/42 or even 1/30th if they are half wave. There is usually a monitor sync function or a fine scan adjustment on some of the higher end Sony cams. Adjust it up or down to find that frequency where the rolling stops. Its a pain in the rear as you know. But once you find it, save it as a preset and adjust exposure with iso and f stop. And, you’re going to have it on your new boat unless you make sure they use very high quality, high resolution PWM dimmers.

I like this boat. And to make that speed beating into crap, that’s pretty darn good. The motion looked less jerky that a cat. When I first saw the owners cabin I said whaaaat! But after a few minutes that really makes sense. You make some very good points there. Really great when underway or at anchor. You are very aware of your surrounding and being able to see the glass panel, even right from the bed. Great. With the single engine you loose maneuverability but gain half of the maintenance. And That’s huge. I have sailed most of the world with just one engine. And over 30 yrs old at that with very little problems. Hey, it’s all a trade off. Thanks for the tour.

Oh, by the way, we also have the exact same washing machine. Even though it's supposed to be a 3.5kg, it's quite small. However, it's a really well built, sophisticated inverter driven machine. Regular washing load is 29min using 30L of water. Usually we just do multiple washings of our clothes and bed linens. Large towels, etc., we take to a laundromat.

Tip: Wrap bottles of toxic, flammable or messy liquids in an old towel before placing them in a plastic basket. Constant plastic on plastic or anything semi-hard to hard causes friction which can indeed rub a hole or groove in plastic containers, releasing their contents when it's least desirable. It's far easier to readjust or replace the old towel if it wears away than it is to clean up the mess, or worse, deal with toxic fumes.

I had a forty-two foot trimaran, in a cross wind, they are hard to manoeuvre--but I used reverse in tough conditions of cross wind and tide and you need someone with a push-off pole. We never had a bow thruster--but it would have helped a lot to have had one. The two amas together were the size of a 35 foor t Wharram catamaran, and all we stored in them was extra bosun's stores, extra water, spare ropes and synthetic carpeted racks securing extra containers of diesel fuel.

Enjoy your "new" temporary home and sail. Glad you are keeping busy. It is always annoying to wait for something to happen, (your new boat build).
Their are a few more things in the Charleston area that are worth seeing. Some old forts like on Sullivan's Island, (one of the barrier islands in the area). I'm up river in Columbia, but have not had much chance to play tourist because of the various lock downs after I moved here. (Columbia used to be accessible by river with barges and boats, but probably now only by small boats.)
One odd thing, that you likely won't use, is that you can motor along the inland waterways with the barrier islands on the ocean side. Great for moving smaller motor boats when the weather is less than ideal. Plus, a smaller motor boat can use it as part of America's Great Loop.

It's a great place for food, and while they have good food downtown some of the best food in the area is in hole-in-the-wall restaurants from downtown on out to the towns nearby. Which is pretty common for cities in the southeast.

I've never been a fan of tris, but the practical and clean application of this design is a game changer I would personally own. The only change I would make is to shift the Fusion and other electronic panels closer to the aft salon entrance so that it doesn't congest the kitchen and or nav station activities.

.... have always thought that when the day comes that I have my own boat there will be a large as possible screen whose main purpose would be to mirror the instruments so with a turn of the head you could see what is going on. Another techy thing would be a remote camera on the mast. Sorta like having a drone view while say docking, negotiating lochs, and security so you can see what is going on on deck without being visible ... what a great boat, the storage is fantastic and not only for the general sailing things but for bulky toys so they don't clutter the deck ... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....

    Nice boat.... in the marina.
Everything that can move has to be restrained one way or another in any waves at all.
All those nice sliding storage tubs will be piled up on the floor, all those open storage areas will dump everything out, and everything that is confined will get all thrown together.
8 years sailing a performance Tri taught me that.
And there are too many sharp corners to smash into when the boat is jumping waves fighting upwind. Sailing in calm water and downwind is smooth sailing, But in rough water and especially going upwind in waves a tri moves around violently. A cat moves much less in the same conditions.
    Have a fun trip!

If it were me I would have a dish drain board that's dropped down below the counter top to the right of sink. Counter top would be hinged to lift up. There would be a dish, cup, glasses, plates rack for dishes to dry with heating element.
.....for a couple my everyday dishes would live there with counter top closed.....forget the dish washer....use that space for something else.

Nice boat. I helped a guy build a 40 foot trimaran in Alaska back in the 70's using the West epoxy saturation method. It took him 5 years to finish it and I helped him as much as I could as I was interested in boats and sailing also. He finally got it in the water at the Port of Anchorage and "motored" it the 2500 miles to Seattle to have a mast, rigging and sails installed. He had never been sailing or crossed big water in his life and by the time he got to Seattle he hated it so much he sold the boat and went to work building and upgrading boats in the Seattle area. At least I learned a lot about building and maintaining boats from the experience of helping him build it, tho I never got a chance to sail on it. I had just joined the Fire Dept and couldn't break away for the trip. Thanks for the video! I will be interested in your take on the difference between a Catamaran and a Trimaran. How many months till your new boat is ready?

Charleston, also Savannah, Ga, are awesome places. Both city’s are on the coast and very similar to each other. If you are a history buff, go visit each place!

If you’re having rolling issues adjust your shutter angle. Traditionally with film cameras a 144° shutter worked well but you would lose stop with the reduced angle from a 180° shutter, but with digital cameras you can shoot at 288° gaining stop. Not sure if your DSLR can do it natively, but there should be an equation to factor the angle to fractional second and achieve the same result.

@@karenpolansky9097 Our oldest son lives in Charlotte, NC and yet Charleston, SC is one of our favorite places to visit. We go almost every year for our anniversary so... you can imagine how many times I have either said North instead of South Carolina or Charlotte instead of Charleston. 😂🤣

What a beautiful boat, love the openness of it. Wow those ships are massive!! I mean I knew they were big but you captured the massiveness of them so well in that one shot! Charleston is really a cute town, I was just there in August house/cat sitting for a friend. Stay Blessed Beautiful Hearts and Happy Sailing! 🙏🏼💜

Hello. I missed you last night as I fell asleep earlier than expected. What a great vessel you are underway with. The first word that came to mind during your trimaran description was "Luxury." The second word, "convenience." Ultimately and remarkably. What a treat to be able to experience this cruising vessel. You have me just about ready to quit work and go and live my dream!! Great sail.

A neighbor, while attending the Citadel, was nearing the completion of his private pilot license. That big boat, The Yorktown, was pretty empty and too much temptation for him and he landed his little Cessna 150 on it, quickly turned into the wind and took off. Unfortunately, not quick enough as someone got his N number and reported it to the FAA. The FAA called him in and decided as punishment, they would keep his log books and told him to "start over" ( that is a few thousand dollars ). An added stroke of good luck was his father let him live.
