    BEST MAPACHO TALK/INFO EVAHHHH!!!! (Or one of the best I've been able to find!) Thank you, thank you, thank you! Lots of new info, answered so many questions. Deeply grateful!
    Javi and Veela, Indigenous First Nations are not just Lakota! Check out the traditions of other tribes, for instance there are plenty in Canada that have a long history of using tobacco, though here as well there is also the use of kinnick kinnick, which is a mixture of local herbs with various beneficial, protective energetic properties that may or may not contain tobacco. In fact, the first allieship discussions with Europeans involved beginning each discussion with the sharing of a peace pipe in the lodges to align and centre the energies, and speak the truth - it was considered essential to any civilised discussion, esp about important matters, because of it's centering, grounding qualities, and facilitation of connection to spirit. Tobacco is originally a North/South American plant (along with the other nightshades), so the Europeans, who typically had no tradition of smoking (things like mugwort would mostly have gone the way of the witches), first encountering it in those lodges coughed of course, to the great amusement of their hosts - this is written about in various explorer accounts. So this might imply that it used to be inhaled. To my knowledge, this is actually how tobacco got introduced to the courts of Europe, by said explorers, leading to the desire to cultivate and eventually commercialise the product.
    Typically in modern times these traditions will specify no inhalation when making prayers with the peace pipe, for the same reasons as shared here - prayers are to be given out, not taken in. There is no North American (nicotina tabacum) tradition I know of which uses the inhaled tobacco internally in quite the same way for healing - I don't know if this is perhaps a modern convention because of the industrial cigarettes rep (it's a big no no in most peace pipe ceremonies nowadays), or because there is little widespread use of hallucinogenic medicines (for which it is so useful in helping to navigate) in N. Am. (apart from peyote use in some areas - it would indeed be interesting to check into those tribe's relationship to tobacco. But even in places where hallucinogenic mushrooms are common such as the Northwest, their use is currently frowned upon).
    There is no tradition of drinking tobacco in N. Am, and I don't think they making the paste either, but perhaps a snuff, tho to my knowledge it has never been mixed with ash as is with rapé. I'm certain it being a different subspecies with different energetic, and likely, medicinal qualities to Rustica must greatly impact how it has been used traditionally.
    Def incomplete with my knowledge, but hope this can be a start!

    I shed a few tears throughout this beautiful presentation. I share a similar history with tobacco and Mapacho is healing that for me slowly. I have been served Rapeh once but it wasn't a healing experience. I look forward to trying again as I think I was perhaps given too much as I'm very sensitive to Tobacco. I love your work Kat, love your book and look forward to working with you in the future. So appreciate you! x

    awesome message! Thank you so much for sharing, this is the exact answer to my question. I feel the call from the plant so strongly, he's offering his friendship and I am willing to allow this relationship to grow. What are your thoughts on going on a Dieta with this powerful plant? Is that even possible alone at home or do I need guidance? Appreciate you honesty :))))

      Mapacho is one of the most powerful plants we diet, and as such, he must be worked with by a very experienced guide in a personal setting. He's not one we would diet socially :)

    How safe is doing a tobacco "tea" purge? There a few stories of people who died from it and I wonder why this might be in your opinion?

    • @PlantMedicinePeople
      @PlantMedicinePeople  Před rokem +1

      Great question. It's safe under the guidance of someone experienced with this medicine. There is a science to it. We know the percentage of nicotine in mapacho, and the half life, as well as the amount the body absorbs. So we can dose people accordingly for a wonderful purge, without the risk of toxicity. But it's not safe to do so without someone who knows all of these factors.
