Last chance to pick up these lenses at a discount: sirui-night-walker-t12-s35.kckb.st/91e5446a. I wanted to share this real world project because I'm still happy with their performance, my first impressions video in my description is still accurate! When working with budget affordable lenses there will be some trade-offs, but these lenses managed to mitigate the flaws in a very manageable way. Did you pick up the lenses yet!? What are your thoughts?
You have absolutely nailed it and I'd say this is the perfect showcase for what the XH2-S is capable of with Cine lenses. Also, the care and attention payed towards composition is really fantastic. Brilliant work, John!
thank you much!! I appreciate the kind words!!
I just came here to see the lenses in action, but this video was incredibly captivating. Great storytelling !
Hopefully it was helpful to see a real project! Thank you for the kind words!
Lovely cinematography and beautiful final image. Makes me so excited to put these lenses to use! I appreciate your fair and thorough review of them
thank you so much!! they've re-ignited a creative spark for me to be sure!
Absolutely fabulous. A pleasure to watch. Great job! Would be interesting to see more footage like the end of this video - low light, natural fire, LED lights, etc.
thank you so much, I think I've seen some other videos with test footage like what you're looking for.
I purchased the XH2S earlier last week and shot my first wedding with it... I wanted to thank you for all the videos you've made about it as it helped me make an informed decision. My usual go to for video work is an XT3 or XT4(borrowed). I'm absolutely in love with this new body and can't wait to use it more for freelance and personal projects! It's been quite a massive upgrade in all aspects.
Currently on the fence about these Sirui lenses...incredible quality and this video isn't helping haha! My wallet is currently hurting from this latest purchase so I may have to stick to my OG canon L lenses for now.
Love your work John, greetings from Canada.
Cheers.
Hello!! Thanks so much for sharing, that's very encouraging to hear you say "an informed decision", because that's all I'm looking to do on my channel - no "selling" I hope. These lenses won't go up too much in price and you just made a big change/investment with the body upgrade so I would say waiting it out is probably wise. Thank you again for this great encouragement, it genuinely means a lot.
I will be investing in a pair of Xh2s later on as well ... with the Night Walkers
@@sydneychuka4304 sounds like a great setup!
Came here because I'm considering the lenses. This was by far the best demonstration that I've found. Obviously it's also a demo of the camera and very much an example of what YOU can do with the gear, but it really was absolutely beautiful - both aesthetically and narratively. Wonderful work here, thank you so much for sharing!
This means more than you know. thank you sincerely for the kind words.
Looks great! Feel like fun and happiness.
It was a lot of fun and happiness!
This was amaaaazing. You are truly a master
awh thank you so much!
Love this and all the advice you give. Thank you
Thank you so much!
great work!
Love how this look
thanks dude! I leaned into a specific styling for the vibe here and came out pleased.
@@johnstamw you definitely nailed, love how different yet amazing your weddings are. Make me want to get into more elopement’s
Bro! Crazy beautifull footage🔥🔥🔥
thank you cooper!
When I get the goosebumps… it’s a winner! An amazing job! The lenses seem really good too… I actually might consider with my GH6 eventually. Blessings!
Wow thanks Scott, that’s cool to hear!! They’re a good value for sure!
Beautiful colors brother!
thank you so much! I leaned into a heavier style than I normally do for weddings on this one and it was fun!
Too good 👌
You’re always here to be kind!
Eautiful work John. Love the music selection. Could you share what the track is?
thank you so much! comatose i believe is the song, but i forget rn haha
It’s amaaaaazing! Love your content. Did you mainly use your PNW luts or BIG SUR for this one? I want to buy your luts but I can’t choose.
thank you so much!! I used my PNW for this one!
John! Thank you so much for sharing! Got inspired by fuji through your videos and now I am into film making too. However, I am an absolute beginner when it comes to editing. I was wondering what kind of effect you did use in min. 18 and 27 -28 :) Thank you so much. You are an inspiration to me
thanks so much! that's a 'mirror' effect in davinci, played around with until I liked it! and then just an 'overlay' composition mode with opacity adjustments on the second one!
Thank you SO much for sharing! well appreciated :) & can´t wait to see more!!!! @@johnstamw
Beautiful amd emotional. Thank you for sharing. Curious, do you pull focus by hand on the lens, or follow focus?
Thank you Simon, I personally have hands on the lens! Rarely rig up my camera.
So so beautiful footage. Amazing. Could I ask what frame rate(s) you were using for this footage? Such a professional movie-like look.
hey sorry for my delay. I did 24p and 60p slowed 40% to 24p.
Beautiful cinematography! Amazing storytelling!
Did you use the IBIS or monopod ? 😊
thank you kindly! only ibis with some post stabilizer here!
@@johnstamw thank you for answering. BTW I watched every one of your videos! I am also Fuji user for photography and film making and they help a lot!
Keep going! 👍🏼😄
@@artkevygallery that really means a lot to me, thank you so much for the encouragement!!
Hey man, this was an amazing film. Your cinematography and storytelling is really inspiring. I have a quick question for you, how much of this film was shot on the 24mm vs the other two Nightwalker lenses? Would you say the 24mm was the primary lens you shot with?
hey dude, sorry i'm so late I didn't see this! I shot this actually with the 35 a lot and secondarily the 24. but it's a pretty good mix.
@@johnstamw No worries, I appreciate the response and that’s good to know! I ask because I bought the 24mm a few months ago as it seemed like the most versatile of the 3, since it’s about a 35mm equivalent on full frame, and was curious if you’d used it much on this film. 👍
Unbelievable nice shoots … Are the shoots with internal IS on without a gimbal? I ask, because my ronin 3 is much to heavy for shot and run, holiday and outdoors . What tripod are you using ? thx for answer ! With best regards Jan.
I do not use gimbal ever, only handheld and some stabilization in post if necessary! I don't often use a tripod currently.
❤
First of all….. beautiful footage bro. How did you like shooting a wedding using only manual focus?
thank you always! and maannn I love it haha at least, with the right lens(es). I had so much fun with the few weddings I used these on so far, unsure how frequently I'll do it, but genuinely felt more creative and inspired.
@@johnstamw That’s awesome to hear. I have a small wedding next month I think I may use them on almost entirely.
Incredible video.. What fps used for slow mo shots?
thanks! i'm usually only ever shooting 24 or 60fps, rarely though I will play with 30
what do you think of these over the Sirui anamorphic? I like them but the lack of focus lever gears on the lens makes it less useful for a video rig
I’m less often in situations where using anamorphic makes more sense so I would prefer these! Sorta apples and oranges.
Man the image is dope🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
thanks!! I'm loving the lenses!
Hey ! Did you film in 20:9 or you used the anamorphic adaptator x1.25 ?? thanks
this was filmed on the nightwalkers in 6k 3:2 and 4k 16:9, then cropped 2:1 for the edit!
Hii is this video footage shot on flog?
This is my cinematic chrome profile you can see on my channel!
the penny and sparrow tho!😭
alwwayyyssss good 🥹
Do you just use the H2 LCD? I see lots of missed focus shots.
hey Doug, what you're seeing is likely my creative decision-making, which helps form a style and feel to the work.
@@johnstamw ok. When I would tell my instructors like Jim McCrary at Art Center College of Design it was "my creative decision making", they'd say "ah no, you missed the focus".
@@dougmacmillan1712 Ha! Well, Jim McCrary would earn a chuckle with that quip, but then I would simply say "ah yes, missing focus was my creative decision making, but "those who cannot do, teach". Right?" or perhaps I would quote Roosevelt's "not the critic who counts"? I'm sure me and ole Jim would enjoy one another's company.
@@johnstamw do you know who Jim McCrary is? He was the director of photography for A&M records and took numerous iconic album covers, including the one for Carole King's "Tapestry" album. Google him.
Almost all of our instructors were adjunct faculty, full time pros in Los Angeles. They were no nonsense and held us to a high standard.
@@dougmacmillan1712 he sounds wonderful, and witty too. I’m glad it sounds like you had such a positive experience with that education.
What happened at 3:23?
just a hand made transition overlay-opacity-flash-clip thing haha
it will be better if you improved the sound quality a bit.
any tips for me?
Not really, haha. Since you are a pro already. It might not have enough time as well. For me, I think I'll recommend trying a better wireless mic maybe? Rode wireless go II with the lav. The best option is still to record on a professional recorder separately I think. But it's just not very doable with just one man band. Especially for weddings, since it's a tight schedule
@@ankaicai ooohhh you mean the officiant at the beginning? I put a compressor on that audio because I wanted that crackly radio sound, that audio is very clean, I just muddied it up on purpose for the "vibes" ya know?;) haha!
@@johnstamw I see 🙈
