Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah is a senior at Carleton College, studying sociology and anthropology. She works as a researcher for an educational consulting firm. Her future aspirations include attending law school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3 years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
I LOVE when kids are brought up not thinking twice about people with disabilities. It's just so normal to them. I'm disabled and my nephew loves hanging out with me and has never made me feel like he thinks any different of me than others.
I was thinking the exact same thing! It's like: This is just Shane. She was so sweet.
Same for my nephew and niece. They just rib me about other stuff, like my age and choice of phone. 🤦

They make me feel worse I just watch and listen to him he's what we should all try to be like. I just fucking bitch everyday about work and people's shitty driving and birds shitting on my vehicles. I find every reason to be irritated and angry everyday and he's dealing with alot of things always trying to keep a positive attitude. It just makes me realize I need to chill out and be thankful for things

I bought one of your books, from your nonprofit. It was an early wedding present to myself. My husband to be and I are in an inter abled relationship and loved when we found your channel. I've been obsessed for quite a few months now. But it's nice to see all the stuff you are able to go and do and gives us much better ideas when we go to try the same. Just watched "a day in the life" video and subsequently this one. I sincerely cannot begin to express how inspiring and wonderful you both are. I was once in a major car accident and was in a wheelchair for about 6 months. Nothing compared to what you go through daily Shane however it was enough for me to learn that unless you have gone through it yourself it's hard to fully understand the challenges one faces. Having said this it just seems to me that love that is so authentic and thoughtful is unfortunately so rare in this day in age. Shane you said it yourself that the day to day challenges you both willingly accept brings you both closer together and strengthens your relationship. We can all take a lesson in that. It is so delightful to see such a resourceful and beautiful couple. Horrendous that there is anyone in this world that could ever say something negative about either one of you or your relationship. Thank you for having the courage of sharing your lives with the world, so incredible.

Two summers ago, I got a Geographical Information System internship in a county for the state of GA. My job was to assess every. single. sidewalk and crosswalk. We had to take measurements, and check for cracks and rubble and input data into our system of what areas in the county needed to be repaired. It honestly broke my heart when I found out there was a disabled community group in that county that actually had to raise so much hell to get that operation going. The sidewalks were HORRIBLE. I have so much respect for those who have to face those challenges daily. This man told me he was wanting to travel to the grocery store down his street, but his wheelchair couldn't get through the cracked and rubbled sidewalk. I felt ashamed that the county took so long to see it as a problem. Love your videos! ❤

Shane is correct about the pig nipples. In fact, some breeds of pig, like the desert tortoise, live well in excess of 100 years. The oldest ladypig on record was a Kansas sow named Mrs. Plumpington, who had 129 nipples. She died in 1994 and her funeral was attended by over 130,000 farm animals from around the world, including chickens, cows, horses, and sheep, most of which had nursed from her at some point. Even old Farmer Jenson, who had suckled on Mrs. Plumpington briefly during the lean years of the Great Depression, was there to give the eulogy. It was a touching but messy gathering, as over 4 tons of solid waste was left behind inside the barnyard where the service was held.
