Her "just put your lips together and blow" was her signature quote throughout her career but "it's even better when you help" is the line that melts me every time. Best movie ever and it's 99% Bacall if you ask me.

Lauren was a regular in a Malibu English pub, the bartender told me. I almost died when she walked in and took her regular spot. Gobsmacked, I couldn’t and didn’t speak. I think she asked me for a match but I couldn’t move. She laughed. I smiled. Brain no work good no. I’d seen this a dozen times at least.

Truth. She was still very pretty. When she wiggles in the movie? She was a beauty. Bogie recognized. I was doubtful until she walked in. The English pub in Malibu. There’s two. The hugest most popular one. Truly British. Walls covered with celebrity photos signed. It was early in the day. Basically no Americans at all except me. My friend is a Geordie. The English punk band G.B.H. were watching tv because Birmingham were on playing football. The game was live at 1pm. 8pm In England. Lauren came in after the game. I was stunned. Too much makeup but real men don’t mind. She sat at the end of the bar. Her spot. Just as the bartender told me.

Angie Dickinson in Rio Bravo was definitely inspired by Lauren Bacall's performance here. The manner & inflection in which they both talk is uncanny. The whole, "It's even better when you help" scene is in Rio Bravo as well. If it's not word for word it's damn close. This blows my mind. I grew up loving Rio Bravo, watched it many, many times. Never heard of this movie until today but it came out like 10 years prior so it's clear who inspired who. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, now I'm curious to watch this & see what else could have been adopted. Must have been pretty iconic for its time.

Originally Moran was to have a more significant presence but Howard Hawks
(Of Indiana) fell for Bacall before and during the filming so he beefed up the focus on her

Pellicola molto bella, nulla di eccezionale e c'è qualche lentezza ma comunque guardabile, ci sono degli errori come il fatto che mentre è sulla barca, e subito dopo lo scontro a fuoco, Enrico dice a Edoardo, che è al timone, di guidare la barca a "unosessanta". Un capitano di barca pronuncerebbe questo "uno-sei-zero" per evitare confusione con "uno sedici" (pronunciato "uno-uno-sei"), quindi molto bella e molto bella per me come valutazione è 7,5.

This doesn't sound like the book at all!
Many, many differences between the book and the movie. For one, there was no Vichy France when the book was written (published 1937) and the book took place in Key West, Florida, not Martinique. Many other differences.
Lauren would be beautiful in 2024, of course minus the heavy lipstick. Girls went crazy with that stuff in the 40s and everyone looked like the joker.

I just bought this movie thinking it was To Be or Not to Be… XD It pays to read the label carefully.
To Be or Not to Be was Jack Benny … I would a have guessed the obvious two films in which they - Bogart & Betty Bacall were most noted. On the other hand, you may have had Casablanca on your mind.
