    One of the plants I bought last year was the PW dark knight sweet alyssum. I actually got two of them, and they looked almost dead, but I cut them way down and they turned out absolutely beautiful. The nursery I got them from claimed that they were perennial in my zone 6, but I knew that they were not, just by reading the tag.
    Anyway, I was trying to figure out what to put there this year. Thanks to you, I know sweet phlox would look great in that spot.

    We planted many of these phlox yesterday along a wall we had built enclosing the front half of a big bed. We also planted 3 buckets surrounding 3 sides of some short purple flags that I had copied from your plantings here. I went to look out my slider this morning to see the new planted pholx when I could not find any of them. The deer had eaten every single plant.. so much for deer resistance. I am heart sick. All yesterdays work down the drain...not even lasting one single whole day. Deer got them the first night.

I never cut them back before and wonder if that's going to be a problem as I only see the new ones in full bloom. I was going to search your past videos for any recordings on what that looks like...visual learner here. I say all of that to say, I'm so happy you've planted Phlox so I can see how you cut them back. I live in Zone 7a.

But I have very little color through the summer and fall in this bed and was wondering if I could cut into the phlox to plant flowers. @@denisejobin8219 Hi Denise. It’s perfectly fine to cut into the phlox to plant. As a matter of fact it gives you that next spring bloom with perennials. I just make sure that what ever I plant in them doesn’t disrupt the beauty of the phlox but complement them. I have several helebores planted in them that bloom about the same time. I also have some cone flowers that just start to come up as their blooms are fading. Just use your imagination but you certainly won’t hurt the phlox.

    Beautiful the area it's just gorgeous. I sincerely need some advice from you I was wondering when you put these small tubulars into a small container is that going to be a problem up- potting into a larger pot?

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  Před 3 lety +1

      If handled carefully they should be fine. Always empty the container into your palm by gently squeezing the pot to free the roots.

    What's your secret with Peonies?? Mine are still just pushing out of the ground with their burgundy stalks (I have no idea if that's what they are called) and I live in the same zone as you do. I double checked the date this video was posted to be sure this was current, and it is! You have so many blooms already, it's gorgeous! Peonies are my absolute favorite, so I must know, please!

      Yes, this video was released on Garden Answer's channel last June (2020). Laura was given some of the phlox to plant and work with which was to become available the following Spring (2021). PW is running it again, because the phlox is now available. 😊

      I looked it up.... it is "soapwort" (Saponaria officinalis) It can apparently be used to make soap!!!!

    I see you mulch your Irises. I was always afraid to do that, because I thought they might rot. Also, the Phlox you just planted, when they spread into the Irises, would it rot the Irises. I’d like to mulch mine and let my flower bed look a little bit more natural. Could you reassure me that this is ok to do. I’d hate to loose my Irises. They are the black purple ones from my moms garden.

    Hi Laura, I've been dealing with late frost the past 3 nights. How do you cover your plants when late frost happens? My tulips and daffs and hydrangeas were already in bloom.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  Před 3 lety

      Anna, please know this is Proven Winners' channel, not Garden Answer. The best thing to cover plants with is a light fabric of some type, a sheet, thin towel...plastic if you plan to remove it early the next day.
