- Johnson & Johnson knowingly sold baby powder laced with asbestos for 60+ years. Thousands of women with asbestos-related cancers are now suing, and J&J is trying to play a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Rep. Katie Porter urged her colleagues to crack down on such abuse.

The fact that they knew about this the entire time is the worst part of this story. They concealed this knowledge from people and that’s why it is now time to “powder this baby”. It would be completely understandable if no one was aware of the danger. They knew it was dangerous… and that is a horrible way to run a company and injure the people you are providing a product to and making your profits from.

My dear Father was a sheet metal mechanic and worked a lot with insulation workers, and asbestos. His two brothers did ,too. All of them got some meso. My dad had a spot in his lungs, but it never grew, but looked like pneumonia on x rays. I'd have to tell the Dr. what it was. One uncle got meso. badly and suffered. When are big corporations going to pay the real price of their deciet ? send CEOs and company people to prison ! People who do far tamer crimes go to prison.

Mesothelioma from asbestos exposure is well documented. Owen's Corning got into the same problem with their asbestos insulation a few decades ago. Well done exposing Johnson & Johnson. They were formerly a well respected company. Apparently, they aren't now. Let the litigation continue....

I'm glad we switched to a cornstarch baby powder as soon as they became available. My oldest daughter was born in 1990 and I had another in 1993. I am so glad that they were not exposed as much to these toxic baby powders. Representative Katie Porter should be canonized as a perfect example of what a representative should be.
Just be careful with cornstarch. They discovered that it is flammable.

I only learned about cornstarch being flammable when Burt Reynolds tried to put a campfire out on the set of evening shades and the flames grew and caught is hair on fire. I think it was also found in cans of silly string.
Do you know what year they switched from talcum powder to cornstarch? My kids were born between 89 and 95, so they probably didn't get as much exposure, too bad for the generations before that had no clue, because the truth was hidden.

Well, I thought that in the end FDA has to give their approval. Maybe they (the FDA) ought to hire staff that is actually in reality educated to examine and test any material in regard. Isn’t the FDA the last hurdle to take? And if they approve the substance to be of no threat or harm to mankind or animals, The product will be on the market with no warning signs and earn the producers a fortune in sales profit. In my opinion, FDA should also be held accountable for the damages caused. If an ordinary person had an approval score that bad, they would have lost their job in a blink of an eye.
@@monimallen If I understand the story correctly, talc CAN be tainted with asbestos, but it isn't ALL tainted. It's quite possible that the FDA wasn't given tainted samples. After all, if every batch of powder was tainted, you'd have more than 40,000 plaintiffs.
I work at Hanford and honestly the DOE is encouraging this type of Shell Company shed of responsibility for law suits from our exposure. The practice needs to be outlawed. Or just call it what it is, stealing.

My aunt put Johnson’s Baby Powder in her underwear Every Day for Decades. She died in 2016 from cervical cancer. I refuse to buy any of their products now. On behalf of all of us that have trusted them over the years, they need to be held accountable and not be allowed to just claim bankruptcy and get away with murder.

I would love to see you in a full blown orange grove saying “This is just one basket of oranges and it represents the people who will still be able to vote after you pass 90. Far too many people would see what they did and say "oh they were just being smart businesspeople" every time I see that I say NO, they are abusing a system that costs us the tax payers soo much money, I do compare it to an abusive relationship, where the abuser pays the police to look the other way, luckily Congresswoman Katie Porter isn't taking that bribe and she is protecting us the abused partner in this analogy, we just need 60% of the police department to no longer accept bribes by these businesses.
