- Australia has decided it's had enough of the British monarchy - at least on its dollar bills. As Ian Lee reports, the country will replace the last of its bank notes featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II not with her son's image, but with something much closer to home.

Well that’s a start in the right direction.
Next, they'll take speech lessons.
good for the Aussie's congrats
Hopefully this is the start for Australia to be independent and stand for their own.
australia is already an independent nation that stands on its own.
@Prophet-thePedophile The monarch, by definition, is not a president. The monarch stands apart from, and above party politics. Australia has compulsory voting, which means that if a presidential system were to be adopted, there would be no possibility of abstaining. So the president would always be the least bad option; the person less disliked than the other one. It builds division into the very fabric of the state.
get steve irwin on there
What this actually means ios that King Charles portrait will not replace that of Queen Elizabeth II on the five dollar note - which was the only note to bear her image. The king' will still appear on the currency, so in fact, much of the "cash" will follow tradition. This is a piece of cheap, gesture politics by the current, and unpopular, Australian Labour government.
Magnificent Australia 🇦🇺 Bravo 👏
Give honor to Original Australian
I dont think identity politics does any good for a society... people have to be one people of Australia to get along. Australia is a nation with one people... the aussies... and some of them happen to be from aboriginal background... and some British and further afield.. it matter not in the 21st century. Any other approach just leads to internal division... NZ is an example of how not to do it...
The same ones they tried to wipe off their land?
Alexander volkanovski /Tim Tzyu
@@joecater894 recognising indigenous culture and history is not Playing identity politics , It is just the matter of perspective ,that is ,how do you see yourself ,as a coloniser a settler or as the part of land , embracing it's original culture and recognising the pain and sufferings caused by invasion of Europeans and destruction of the originals... It is just asking who you are an Australian or a European coloniser
Great!
Famous prisoners in the penal colony?
I like the bars on the notes, idea.
Always been told if you want to communicate, be yourself. Be yourself, Australia. Celebrate your heritage, your nature, your indigenous community, and most of all, celebrate what means most to you!
What do you know?
And the Queen means the least to us. Which is why we removed the royalty from our cash. It would be like America having the queen on the dollar, it just doesn't make sense. We left for a reason.
@@nunyadambusiness3530 your comments make no sense you say like America having the queen on its currency really? Did you ever take history lessons ?
What I know is how to be respectful and positive here. That's what's important!
@@MLVL312 I never said America had royalty on at the dollar, I’m talking about yalls country, quit trying to deflect, you’re just mad because royalty doesn’t own Australia anymore.
America:you guys just do it right now??
The british empire is done.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Absolutely amazing , Australia is too big to not have its own president or head of state and live in the image of british , queen is done , and 🗿Australia's identity must be explored
Why they speak english?
great gb next got go back to hrh
Ummm about time?
LOL!!
Every country must be republic
Why?
treasonable economic behaviour from the prisoners of milbank.
Crown 👑 is now sunset 🤣 slowly
They should put Rolf Harris on their currency
Will Canada do the same thing?
Canada should do the same, I mean is there any reason for commonwealth countries to even have a British monarch figure head on their bills?
Because of history and tradition.
Yes because you belong to us Britain should invade Australia for even considering this
The US has dead forefathers on their bills. Does MTG, Gaetz, tRump and Santos represent them?
Colony slaves
If a commonwealth country has the monarch as its Head of State there is an excellent reason to have his/her portrait on the currency.
I hope they replace her with AC/DC....
Can the uk drop the royal parasites and spread their wealth amongst the poor people who have suffered long enough
Enough with royalty!
Why did you click on it?
Abolish the aristocracy!!!
If you willing to give honour then you all left Australia. 99% are here not Indegenous people
LOL--good. UK should dump the monarchy.
No the uk should invade Australia for even considering this
They bring in ONE billion pounds/year in tourism, alone. Any other ideas, abe?
@TV Dinner and how much do they cost to maintain? Not to mention getting rid of them is also about getting rid of what they stand for.
@@lewstone5430 What you think they stand for, and what they actually stand for and maintain are probably two clean different things.
Britain should make them put a monarchs face on their money and if they say no invade them it’s about time the empire makes a return
Need to do the same in the US
US doesnt have Brit monarch on its money... not since 1700's...
@@joecater894 I understand that, I'm more talking about removing the current people that are place on the US bills entirely to more represent where we are now as a nation. AU has moved forward
US can to as well.
@@brianhall1977 well, i believe US should have the people on their currency who have built their nations democracy into what it is today and have helped build their nation...
@@brianhall1977
well that’s stupid. our bills are just fine. don’t try to fix something that’s not broken
@@cL-bf2ug US bills are not fine I've can talk about all the atrocities and theft each man has done that are listed on the currency , just like the England monarchy.
A step in the right direction. Place Australians on the currency
Name a famous Australian? Not for playing with a ball.
Where do you think Australias come from?
What’s it got to do with you?
@@tvdinner325too easy, Steve Erwin
Good for them get rid of the curse and poison family
*Origin of the British Royal family in Australia*
Australia was *invaded* by the *"British East India Company"* (for the purpose of capturing, kidnapping and enslaving the original inhabitants of that land (the Aboriginal people). Later, it was turned into a prison colony were the British Royal family would send the *"worse of the worse"* criminals from Britain's overcrowded prisons. The contemporary Australian Angelo's are *direct descendents* of those prisoners & prison guards. The original inhabitants, the Aboriginal people, were raped - murdered - burned alive - starved - slaughtered and had their land stolen by the Angelo's. To this day, the Angelo's are profiting from their *terroristic* atrocities. As is SOP for Angelo's, they've never held accountable for any of their actions.
The queen was amazing? Yes she was. She was an amazing racist.
Australia has every right to celebrate its indigenous history. I however, strongly feel that Her Majesty's image could have been kept on the bank note as a loving memory and tribute to her. Australia was very close to her and Queen Mum. This is sad.
Handcuffs, a prisoner ship, stolen goods, so many options.
Succulent Chinese meal
👍
charles should have given way to william.. . way it should have been.... he'll probably lose the commonwealth. Most people have their faults and being popular is not easy... but the person who does it needs to be flawless. William pretty much hasn't put one foot wrong yet...
No because they’re both terrible!
Lol
Me more Queen Emma Miss Mohammed. Bin. Salman Queen's. Emma new
You shouldn’t use indigenous people to give the monarchy the middle finger. Specially, considering what you did to the indigenous people.
Put Harry and Meghan on there
Why would anyone want those psychopaths on their money
