What type of connector did you use at the end of the main shaft to connect to the rod that goes to the bird body?

BCdesign Thanks! Actually, I started this whirligig on a whim in early July. In searching youtube for flying bird design ideas, I ran across Laney's W G Wars announcement. Serendipity, and the rest is history.

Great job would love to do one with a hummingbird for the Mrs. If I'm seeing it correctly the blades turn an off center arm attached to the body of the woodpecker? The wings are done with little eye hooks and a ridgid anchor?

Pat M Thanks for your interest. You a pretty much correct. I looked for plans of some sort, but could not find any, so I had to engineer it myself which proved to be a bit of a headache. There are about ten pivot points each creating some friction. I put a drop of oil on each one, and it works fairly well in a breeze. Those two vertical rods that look stationary are not...they each must rotate a small amount in their sockets on both ends. Close accurate work is essential. If you have additional specific questions, please ask.

where did you find your pattern for the bird, or did you freehand it?

    • @MrGryglabigla

Wayne Hinton Freehand. I referred to bird field guides and made the woodpecker as close to actual size as I could. Thanks for your interest.

There are no plans as it just came out of my head. Unfortunately, I cannot take dimensions because I sold it. Thanks for your interest though.
