I wouldn't have said this a few years ago, but I think a good set of dumbbells and an adjustable bench are probably the best investments, overall. Enjoyable to use, versatile, doesn't take up a lot of space, easy to move, not a huge investment, etc. (The ironmaster bench is probably my favorite design, overall).
A dedicated leg press is probably the worst investment, though. Expensive, big, not versatile, takes up a huge amount of space, not easy to move, etc.

@@SkylerKing I have similar thoughts whenever I’m using my dumbbells, especially when I’m considering things like shoulder exercises. A comparative review of products like Sperax, Innodigym P1,P1 Plus and P1 Lite, Maxpro, Squatz Pluto, Unitree pump and Posono (formerly U-trainer) (and probably some I have overlooked) would be of interest.

I recommend buying a medicine ball rebounder and a 20 lb slam ball, which is a lot of fun to use. There are a host of exercises that can be done with a medicine ball rebounder. However, I recommend using it outside in your backyard because it can send a 20 lb slam ball flying 16 feet away. Yet, it is still a lot of fun to use while you can develop muscular endurance, size, and strength. Besides, both Vladimir Zatsirosky, who trained 100's of Olympic gold medal winners, and the late Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell, which sets more world powerlifting records than any other gym in the world, recommended rotating new exercises to avoid muscular accommodation, which can result in decreased performance.

I actually was thinking how I have to get back into them. great comment.

Love the tour, you've got a sweet setup!
I will say, I personally love the all-in-one functional trainer + rack + smith machine combo units. Not a huge fan of ones without the smith though because I think the smith adds a ton of versatility (vertical leg press, calf raises, back extension, stabilized presses/rows, etc...).
I got a budget-oriented Mikolo M4 for myself and it really surprised me how great it is. My garage gym is primarily built around 2 bells of steel cable towers which double as a rack and the ironmasters superbench pro v2 (with leg attachment). I have other pieces like the ironmasters cable tower and rogue scout hyper, but with a set of adjustable dumbbells and a rougue power bar, i have a clean, efficient, and versitile setup. Everything is either small (bells cable tower) or moveable (ironmasters cable tower, scout hyper).
I threw in a foldable walkingpad and a bowflex max trainer and everything fits cleanly in 1.5 garage spaces.
I would consider a powertec multipress with the leg press, however, as it is a safer option to barbell pressing exercises.

If I ever go home gym only, my plan is Total Gym and single pulley (BoS) as a way to avoid getting a functional trainer to save space and I like separate stations so use the rack as a rack only. @hybridresistance  Před 2 měsíci +1

I tried to answer this, but really stumps me with a few variables. Let me think about this one, but this could be video in of itself. But if we're including bands+DBs, we're basically talking about what are my top 5 items. What makes me pause is some things assume you'll buy other things as well. So I couldn't just say a rack, because I'd buy a bar, weights, bench, added accessories. Just by throwing in DBs into the mix, you have to throw in a bench. If you see where I'm going. But this could be a separate video for sure. I did however make a "top 5" video interview with my friend Skyler, but I think my picks may have changed.

I never felt the need nor utility of a functionnal trainer.
I usually feel like it's a very expansive and big pieces for people that swear by chest flies, wich is for me one of the most useless chest exercise that i was not even doing in commercial gym.
Imo all the best pulley exercise like pull downs, pull-overs, low row, triceps and biceps isolations or even lateral raises are covered by a small and much cheaper dedicated high/low pulley so there is no point of spending thousands on a FT unless you are a chest fly addict then by all means if it is what makes you want to exercise then it is worth the money.
As for the HackSquat+LegPress vs Squat Max, i think both are awesome but since you are already doing regular and lever arm squats, Squat max makes more sense since it has the major advantage of not loading the spine at all.
