This is so sad to watch. I've always been an H5O fan and it was primarily because of Jack Lord and the character he played. I've been to Hawaii 4 times because of this show and became a student of Hawaiian history and culture and I owe it all to Jack Lord. It was quite an experience to visit all the places seen on the series. RIP Jack Lord. You will live on forever in our hearts and for some really great TV. I have some episodes on tape and watch it every night in reruns. My Mom and Dad were also fans of this great show, especially my Mom.

I now own the complete series on DVD and I even have my own group on Facebook on Jack Lord. Jack always will be to me something special and I'm sure he already knows that now. I did like Magnum PI but it'll always be Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett that will always do it for me

It was his own hair. His hair stylist, Cherie Huffman, wrote a book called Fondling Follicles, where she talks about the many celebrities she worked on. She mentions Jack and said his hair was real. His hairstyle changed a few times over the show’s run. He would have to have worn many wigs if he did wear one.

Typical of these shallow tv "news" magazine not to do any in depth research into Jack Lord whose real name was John Joseph Patrick Ryan and he served his country in WW2 (including survived on a lifeboat after his ship was torpedoed by a U-boot), and was an accomplished painter at 20 with 2 works purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art while he was attending NYU on a football scholarship. He liked to recite poetry, was offered the part of Captain Kirk for Star Trek TOS, was the first Felix Leiter in the first Bond film Dr. No, and sang country music in rodeos

I truly agree with a previous comment made on this video comment page and that is that the new Five O series is terrible and a tremendous insult to the great cast of the original. Jack Lord was the top of the line, head of the class in every respect. The original was a classic that could never be topped. It would have been better left alone. Even though Jack Lord was a prince of a gentlemen he would have plenty to say about this insult to there series if he could and roll over in his grave.

What his wife didn't say to the cameras was Jack Lord has Alzheimer's Disease which pretty much had taken his memory from him. I'm not sure it was because he was shy, but from what I have read over the years he had started to develop signs of the disease as early as his final year of Hawaii Five-O. Marie (his wife) wanted to protect him from all of the attention. And I am sure Jack wanted to keep his health issues quiet until his death in 1998. RIP McGarrett! Aloha!

As for the reboot version, that was a total disgrace to Jack Lord as he portrayed the role of Steve McGarrett very well.

The new Hawaii Five-0 started off good but has become just your ordinary procedure cop show. What made Jack Lord's Five-0 so good was the writing. The "V for Vashon" three-part story is, I think, the highlight of the show. But there are so many other great plots that have cool twists. And as for Jack Lord being tough to work with; so was William Shatner and so is Harrison Ford. That is because it is their name at the top of any production they do. So if it were to fail,, they, the stars of the show, would be pointed at and blamed. I have no problem with Jack being the perfectionist he was; perhaps that was why FIVE-0, for the most part, was a great show (though to be honest, seasons 11-12 are hard to watch because the writing had slipped so much)

Jack Lord was asking a lot from CBS and you know how everything gets down to money. He promised me an amount for each show and told me not to get an agent to negotiate that he would be fair with me and keep the agents out. I was between agents at the time and Ted Bissel (That Girl)also wanted me for a pilot and was giving me a certain amount and Jack told me that he would match it and well, I turned down Ted because of Jack. And on every show I had done with Jack he was great to me and I trusted him. I did however see how cruelly he treated others but I stuck my head in the sand. I learned my lesson because he really stiffed me. I was paid half of what I had been making money wise. Not even that, Jack got me where it hurt. I was a single mom with a kid who was dying to live in Hawaii and keeping a guy that was ripping me off. I was a victim, an ignorant woman who believed the best of everyone. I still slip into that role.

Sharon Farrell and Steven Wilson .... I find you guys stories a bit surprising (and I don't surprise particularly easy), Especially Ms. Sharon's story !...That sounds like "Cut-Throat" at its best as it relates to the term "Well, That's show business"! Certainly would not have expected that kind of dishonesty out of Jack Lord especially given his personna and the "Run" Hawaii five-o had as a television series, But the nearly the same was said about Jackie Gleason too !!! These and a couple of other stories I've come across appear to be in TOTAL contrast to what all else I've heard and read about Jack Lord ! I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed being I was (and still am) a "Steve McGarrett" Fan ! ....I'm now thinking that maybe....This is the actual reason why Jack went into seclusion afterwards...Water under the "BURNT" bridge !!!

One thing I have to give Jack credit for is his conviction in the role. He absolutely inhabited that character. Sometimes I wonder if he was really acting or just playing himself. Nobody could dress down a hood like Jack. The guy is lesson in self confidence. That cock sure gun slinger stance and pointed finger he loved to use. That's right bruddah!! Gentlemen? (Out the door!!) Next to Clint Eastwood I would have to Jack is up there with the coolest. What I loved about the original 5-0 is the brand. The music had an "Identity" the station breaks were always memorable. A "moment" that made you hang on. Shows today don't know how to do that.

Sharon Farrell I see you’ve read the playgirl article. I’m afraid that story is 1% truth and 99.8 % lies. Jack was never cruel. He did not have a huge ego. He was merely protective of his public image, as are most stars of his fame and caliber. The image must always be protected. That is show business. If he was a cruel man he wouldn’t have been so kind and loving to his fans, always making time for them, particularly the children; nor would he have the reverence and love of the Hawaiian people, which he does even to this day! He also wouldn’t have donated 40 million dollars to Hawaii upon his death were he cruel. Don’t believe everything you read, and especially don’t believe print articles about Jack. He disliked the press for a reason. They always lied about him.
