Today we remove an existing heat pump package unit and install a new 14 SEER RunTru by Trane heat pump package unit with a new custom made unit flashing. This is my first time installing this brand of package unit. All in all, I'm happy with it and think it's a great budget hvac unit for anyone.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I czcams.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Nice install. Sounds very quiet. Years ago they would install a t or even a cross fitting to install 1 or 2 clean out spots for drain line but do not see it much anymore. Worked at a very cheap company that never would spend a dime to save a hundred dollars in maintenance. Drilled holes in at least 15 roof top unit drain lines to blow them out when the PVC line got blocked. Great ideal placing trap inside of unit. Trane makes nice stuff. They were owned by American Standard back in the 80's. Thanks for the great vid.
One thing I love what you said is " Lets read that manual"....
yes finally a new install update sophomore in high school always excited to see a new video from you love the content my guy
I always admire your attention to detail. Always top quality work 💪
Nice clean install, great job. Keep making awesome videos
Your installs are always neat and thought out
Great looking install, y'all guys make it look easy. Wish they were all this straight forward. I have installed Runtru split systems. I really do like them .
I remember ole Zach back when he was just a weed hopper. Great video brother glad to see you’re doing well
Awesome job Zac! You're an amazing hvac guy bro. Hope all is well.
Again Zac a very neat and tidy job, well done, your customer would have been very pleased with the system change over work.....
i usually just kinda like skim through his videos and this dude is always talking tape....cracks me up, you are for surely a tape expert you know your tapes lol you should and need to be sponsored by them unless you already are. like the vids!
Idk if he's fully sponsored but he has done a couple sponsored videos for Shurtape 😂 definitely knows his tape
@@miniman9198 butyl tape does look much cleaner than Mastic as long as it is installed correctly it will work the same. Why make a brand new unit all messy if you don’t have to right. I’m all for peel and seal
@@miniman9198 that stuff will fall off in outside temperatures. Should use 3m cold weather tape..
He never use cheap tapes; only top brands; kudos!
By far my favorite HVAC channel
Nice clean install I like ur knowledge on different tapes a lot of people use same tape
She's a Beaut!! That ace ventura reference was great.
Like a glove!!! 😂
Neat & clean work bud 🙌🏽
Happy to hear you say that you're going to read the manual. 90% of my factory warranty calls are in proper installation because they never read the IOM
I have an old split unit, and there is no way to get a new unit under the house because they built a garage over the crawl space and added 4 inches of concrete. This looks like a good unit to install. Great video!
Great work guys!
Beautiful install. 👍🏾
Great channel, great editing, great content.
I work hvac in hawaii. First time seeing a package unit in a residential application pretty cool
Excellent work bro. Good eye for detail.
You guys did a great job thanks for sharing 😊
Way cool that you guys covered up the flex.
Another quality hvac install!
Nice work 👍
Very clean 👌
That is a very nice unit! Nice install. Thanks for the video. Do you ever come across a package unit that had metal vents all the way to the outside unit? Seems like every video I see on package units it is the type of vents (non metal) like the one in your video.
Nice job sir ! Very impressed.
Absolutely clean job......Looks fabulous
You don't have much experience, do you
Would like to see you put cork pads under the units so they don't rust the bottoms out.
A contractor license question: a pad which at least 3 inches over the ground
No kidding. He never does. I've been in this business since the 1980s
I'm thinking the same thing. He drag the unit a bit, that would scratch the thin paint and start rusting.
@@Bryan-Hensley yeah and I’m sure he could still out do you arm chair hvac super tech
By the time it rusts what time is it again? But, I would use them for sound/vibration isolation.
Great job with materials explanation
Nice shield man.
Like the hat also!
Those package unit are a piece of cake. Nice
Yelp Ameristar, proudly made in china. They let american standard assemble them in the USA to get around import taxes.. Those are made by Ingersoll Rand in china.
Really good job
Nice and clean 👌 👍
Nice work!
Beautiful!!!!
That sheet metal looks good 👍
I like to use splicing collars and pan do its. Over time tape comes lose and can cause a leak.
It may have not been no DC-181 I can tell you that.
I gotta say I do like servicing the modern Trane units.
Love package units.no crawling on your hands and knees and no steps.
Great work.
glad to see your using professional installers and not trying do all yourself. work smart not to hard
Love the way you’re rain hood is done. Easy to open and get underneath, then put back together.
In south Texas we call them duct covers
Sharp looking job.
Hello from Ontario Canada guys, I was always interested in how you do these package units!
Pretty cool, nice looking unit and great job!
Hopefully the ants don't get in LOL that's a lot of ants!
Awesome video! Glad you didn’t add any of that music! I much rather hear the tools and you working, than some techno music playing!
Nice video I’m curious how quit this unit is I wish we could of heard it start up
Question, did you put a coupling on that flex or just taped it.
Looks REAL good. I like how picky you are.
Nice job and video
I like what you doing talking about tape . just messing with you. great job and nice unit
Good one brother 👍
Good job !! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice neat job guys! 👦 👍 👏 👌
Your Duct work is great
I have repaired so many leaks on evap coils for those units, hoping you don't have any issues with them.
FASSON FOR LIFE 😂
Great vids sir!
Good work
Looks good
Sir it's will be nice if you add in the video all the pressure reading for the final instructions thank you for the video 🤟🤟
That tape is fire
Where I'm from in NC we splice flex with sicing collars
Good job.
looks cleeeaann
Nice clean looking job have to ask did you give the customer their aunt farm back
Very clean install, looks great! The only thing I would have done differently is put a clean out T before the trap
Why?
Unit won't drain if you do that
Where did the thermostat line, under the whip, snake through? Is it traveling through the flashing (dog house) into the house?
You hook up trailer everyday or just for installs? How’s your trailer set up? Good videos I currently do American standard and ameristar.
How quiet is the furnace when it's running? Can you easily hear it start up or is it whisper quiet? Which units are whisper quiet?
What is a heat pump ? In my house I got the inside evap coil , fan , and electric heater coils and outside is the main compressor unit.
that is a damn fine unit, Zach. fantastic job! any time i need to put tape on a dirty surface where the tape wont stick very well, i always spray it down with some spray adhesive. works every time
Great Work! Alot of people nit picking nonsense... but this guy does Amazing work! This guy is an awesome, honest hard working dude. Takes his time to teach others and takes pride in his work and it shows! Keep up the awesome work bro!
Nice heat pumps I like runtru
When are you getting more leather patch hats in? I just tried to order and they are sold out!
Long time watcher and subscriber from down here in Australia, just wondering if you sell your own QUALITY HVAC/R merch and ship to Australia.
Love the content!
Hi where did you buy the dolly to carry the package unit never seen it before
hard to beat duct ties for sealing that ductwork to collar :P
Why did you leave the old disconnect box on there ?
You didn't show the thermostat wiring hook up?
I would have removed as much flex as i could. Then install square to round boots on the unit and use hard duct to go into the under portion of the house.
But overall you did a nice job
The coil on the old unit looked like it played the part of penata at a child's birthday party.
I luv it
I don’t know how you always know what size flex it is and you always bring the right materials. I think that unit should’ve been installed on some pads at least 2 inches high. I don’t trust those preformed P traps and you might end up with some condensate leak on that unit. I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve been doing this for 36 of them, I’ve had to cut those preformed P traps out because they are not deep enough. I never use them on any of my installs are use elbows to get a good trap. In the future if you want to use these you should raise that unit a few inches with some pads
I have one of those P traps on my split system. It was added when I had a new system installed. The builder didn't put one on the original system because it drains to the bathroom sink, but there was always the sound of air in the sink drain, so I liked having a trap. BUT... the coil manual (yep, I'm the weird person that likes to read a/c manuals) says to have a much deeper trap, and now I see why because my trap gets blown out all-the-time! If I fill up the bathroom sink and then drain it, the trap gets sucked out and it gurgles loud. If the heat has been on a few days, the trap starts to dry out and the loud gurgle is back again. Funny thing -- when the installers added the trap, they had also shortened the drain line and the trap was in a 45 degree run and keeping up all kind of gurgling noise! Had them re-do the plumbing and put it back down the way it was... should have asked for a deeper trap, but there was all kinds of things they had to be called back for.
Tennessee must be great because California, and Nevada makes us tape and pookie after on flex duct, residential. You guys man I love it 🙌🏿
What type of Cart was that you were using to move the pallet?
Bro any tips on how to get the bloody rock wool insulation rubbish off your gloves , clothes and arms? I hate installs just because of that one thing . Cheers mate 👍
You don't really. You just become used to it. Washing it off with really cold water helps a tiny bit.
That was one hell of a fine install major quality right here!
Other than splicing in the flex wrong, not using a proper square to round for the return, and whatever else off camera.
Looks good although not a fan of the seal tight on the floor.
what hand truck is that? i have been searching forever for one like that with air tires
Nice.
Looks pretty clean. Question; does the unit sit right on the ground or is it elevated up by some type of feet to keep the metal from corroding?
The acid in the concrete will kill the sheet metal in just a few years. I don't know why he's not listening to people who have decades of more experience. I'll be honest, if he deletes anymore of my comments I might have to send those home owners a letter. They should know about this..
@@Bryan-Hensley what a karen you are dude, mind your business.
great professional work
Muy bueno 🇦🇷 saludos
Seems like your in package unit heaven!😄
🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺
Stay safe.
Retired keyboard super tech.
Wear your safety glasses.
Do one where supply and return are crossed what a nightmare. Care on shield don't screw into evaporator coil another nightmare. Good job!
Wondering why you did not extend at least with hard pipe and reconnect under the house? Hope you at least put a piece of pipe to splice the flex. Also would have been less to buy the start collars 14 each vs your hard cost labor divided by how long to make that collar. Also duct sealant is less expensive and quicker than the tape. You do great metal work.
Are package units more common in Tennessee? Mainly the only time I see them in north Louisiana is commercial applications or on trailers..
They are fairly common in East Tennessee.
There everywhere in North Carolina
I live in East Tennessee I see them all the time.
Pretty common in tn and other southern states.
Do you guage up on it after start up check ?
soooooooooooo does TN NOT require 3ft metal run off from the unit? NC requires 3ft of metal on the feed side, no metal on this install flex hooked right too the unit. Also you enclosed the system completely , no break for inspection? Not permitted? We have to have an inspection before the hood enclosure is installed. Then a final after its installed here in NC
