- Phoenix Arizona is synonymous with sports failure. The Cardinals, the Coyotes, and the Suns have yet to win a championship. The Diamondbacks won one, 20+ years ago.

The Suns and Bucks came into the league the same year, 1968. A coin toss was held for the first overall pick. The Bucks won, and drafted some UCLA center who changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Wonder how he turned out.
only the recently dethroned individual scoring king
@@thedude3065James still not the GOAT as Kareem once
Ah Kareem Abdul Jabbar...a name synonymous with Milwaukee
I thought his name was Roger Murdoch
Technically, they drafted Lew Alcindor.
at least the Diamondbacks have the 2001 World Series
And that's about it.
And we all remember it fondly. No one cares what Luis took if it means the Yankees losing.
Minnesota has never won anything.
@@BKIslandersfan Two Twins World Series and 5 or 6 Lakers titles. Well beyond a few pro sports towns.
I remember that even 9/11 couldn't make me root for the Yankees.
Fun fact, my father actually played with one of the Arizona Diamondbacks players that was on that World Series team. His name was Ernest Lee "Junior" Spivey Jr.
I remember him. He was on the first nationals team too
Junior Spivey was an OOTP (text-based baseball simulator) legend back in the early 2000s. A name I’ll always remember.
Fun fact: His name still is Junior Spivey
No, in 2021 he changed his name to Senior Spivey@@christopherlapp4553
Junior Spivey was so talented it was nuts. He had Size, speed, power etc. His first few years he was awesome but I don’t know what happened to him after he left AZ.
Phoenix can't be the most cursed sports city when there are sports cities with no championships
Yeah, Twin Cities has PHX beat.
@@kevinmaghran6933 You forgot the Twins I think.
Phoenix can't be the most cursed sports city because the Seattle Mariners exist.
Enters......SALT LAKE CITY
Bro we literally have only 4 championships combined. The Dbacks WS win and the Mercury 3 championships( Antonio Holmes, Harrison, prime Newton, MJ, Luka, Jokic, Giannis, García, Seager, Rockies 2007, Kingsbury collapses, Dbacks 2018 September collapse, 42 points meme…. Do I need to add more?)
need to make one of San Diego. 3 pro teams left already and the Padres have been irrelevant for pretty much their whole existence
There was that one week in 1997... lol Phoenix has nothing on SD when it comes to curses..
@@fredb3400dbacks says hi
My Padres? My former Chargers? My former Clippers? My former Rockets? My zero championships?
"But you have great weather!"
_"We want a championship parade!!!"_
I worked for the Padres from 04-06. Fun years. New stadium, Jake Peavy dealing, Hoffman closing.
After that, pppppbbbbbttttthhhhhh.
As a Padres and Chargers fan, I would be open to this
Wait, the Padres STILL exist? Really??
Trust me Five, I live in Arizona and I know all about the sports ineptitude here
I got a few stories about a small sport town named San Diego.
Arizona last championship 2001, Minneapolis/St. Paul 1991. Since 1992, Suns 2 NBA finals appearances, Diamondbacks 2 World Series appearances, Cardinals 1 Super Bowl appearance, Coyotes 0 NHL Finals. Timberwolves 0 NBA Finals, Twins 0 World Series, Vikings 0 Super Bowl, North Stars left for Dallas, won NHL title, Wild 0 NHL Finals. I don't think it close; MSP is more cursed. We can't even get to the big game or series.
@@mikesimonson-bf5kg Twins have two WS titles... also, the NHL "finals" is STANLEY CUP
@@mikesimonson-bf5kgit’s definitely close between Arizona & Minnesota when it comes to being cursed
Not to mention 1/3 of Arizonas population is from Buffalo seemingly, so they are already cursed to start.
cherish that 2001 diamondbacks title
otherwise good lord there is so much failure and away fans in this city
Buffalo has been cursed since the McKinley assassination
I can’t believe someone made a video about the most cursed sports town and the video wasn’t about Buffalo. I’m gonna assume 5 Point meant besides Buffalo…obviously.
@@axe2grind244 yeah
Fun fact: Buffalo is the only city with multiple big four sports teams that has never won a championship.
@@mightypotato we know, our only successful sports team is the Bandits
Born and raised here in Buffalo we truly are cursed
Speaking of cursed sports cities, you gotta look into San Diego next, whom I argue is more cursed than Phoenix. Only championship came in 1963 in the AFL, which has the longest drought regarding all North American cities with at least one major league team. And despite the nice weather, due to its proximity to LA/OC, is more toxic to major league teams and players setting up shop there than Oakland.
- Padres: Only team to go 0-2 or more in the World Series (the Rangers also had this distinction until last year). Took until 2017-2018 to hit for the cycle and 2021 to pitch a no-hitter. Being the bottom b---h to both the Dodgers and Giants most decades. Even the D-Backs got a more recent ring than the Padres. We got Tatis and Machado now, but we had to trade Soto (after Peter Seidler died (RIP) and Bally Sports blew up) and the Dodgers easily countered this offseason with Ohtani and Yamamoto.
- Chargers: Abandoned the San Diego market (obligatory F-you Spanos) after wasting the Fouts/Winslow, Seau, and LT/Rivers eras, wasting Herbert’s career in LA, and will likely block San Diego from getting a replacement NFL team unless Spanos sells and the team moves back.
- The NBA gave San Diego a worse chance at cultivating a fanbase than the NHL did to Atlanta, with how badly the Rockets and especially the Clippers (Thanks Donald Sterling) were run. And who knows if San Diego will ever get another NBA and/or an NHL team, although there are plans in the works to build a new arena.
At least San Diego got an MLS team now, though it took over 20 years.
Bolts were already cursed since its existence before moved to SD
Aren't the Rays also 0-2 in the WS?
@@ThatMediaGuy150yeah
Don’t forget the SDSU Aztecs went to the March Madness Championship!
Arizona State, the Phoenix Valley's main university, is cursed too. No football titles, 1 Elite 8 appearance in basketball, and their baseball team hasn't won a title since 1981.
As an Arizona Wildcats fan, I agree lol although aSTDu did have a pretty mean baseball program once 🤷♂️
Minnesota Golden Gophers, last "claimed" football title was 1960. One Final Four appearance in 1997 was taken away because the "student-athletes" didn't write their own papers. The baseball team last championship was 1964 and haven't been back to the College World Series since 1974. Oh and since Minnesota is supposed to be the state of hockey, the Gophers hockey team haven't won a title since 2003
All the best high school baseball talent goes Southeast instead of West nowadays.
True. They've come close to the football title a couple of times in the past. The 1975 team was the top undefeated team in the country that year but finished 2nd in the rankings to a 1 loss Oklahoma team. And at the 1997 Rose Bowl, they were 1:19 seconds from a national championship. Have had some great teams in the past, but none recently.
@@mikesimonson-bf5kg Second, Wisconsin has one unclaimed football national title from 1942, a basketball championship last won in 1941 and only one college world series appearance in 1950 despite later dropping the sport 41 years later. Also haven't won a "men's" ice hockey title since 2006 despite bordering said rival.
I believe San Diego is more cursed than Phoenix. They have no championship in the 4 major sports and the Padres are the only remaining franchise in the city. Though Phoenix hasn't seen much success in sports, other than the 01 Diamondbacks, they still have all 4 major sports.
And always being shadowed by big cities like LA and SF
Eh you still sure about that?
Buffalo, NY has a major bone to pick with you, Mr. FivePoints.
San Diego is also wondering what more must be necessary, seeing as they have ZERO titles in 3(yep, 3. NBA, too) sports, lost THREE franchises, and their teams _constantly_ cock tease like no others.
Buffalo invented the sports curse. That place makes Minneapolis look like title town.
"Hold my cursed beer" - San Diego
San Diego or Buffalo. If the Dbacks didn't win the title in 2001 then Phoenix would be up there.
San Diego for the win. Can't even blame the weather when the clips and bolts drove away
Buffalo is so cursed Satan himself won’t step foot in WNY.
@@fredb3400blame the owners.
I mean I guess they both at least snagged AFL titles right before the Super Bowl era. Still not a great way to cope with it, especially when those titles were 60 years ago, but at least you don't have no football titles in any league regardless of era.
No, these totally aren't the words of a Bengals fan. What could possibly make you think that?
Buffalo doesnt have a MLB or NBA team though
As an AZ sports fan, this one hurt. It's so true 😭
Minneapolis: yay we have been let off!!!!
No you haven't. 5 already made a video about you.
Thank you for showcasing the curse of Arizona sports. We do have many championships with the Rattlers, Mercury and the one Diamondbacks win. The Suns have the best hope and I still think the 2007 matchup with the Spurs was rigged. Cardinals will always be doomed to fail until Bidwill sells the team.
There is also Phoenix Rising soccer team who won the USL title last year.
Yep you’re right. I forgot about the Rising winning.
Ehhh This years Suns team is iffy.
@@chrisguardiano6143 I did not know that. As an ex-Zonie this was good 2 know. For the most part though, the Valley has fallen short when it comes to playoff success. He didn't even mention our involvement in the other defunct leagues like the WHA, USFL, MISL & NLL where we had success but couldn't make it to the big 1.
The fact that the championships you cherish MOSTLY come from the IFL and the WNBA is a testament to how fucked Arizona is, mostly because the IFL is “let’s play football with training wheels” and practically NOBODY gives a shit about the WNBA, so to cherish the championships that their WNBA TEAM have won is a damning sign of a cursed city. Godspeed, and hopefully you guys get a championship from the cardinals, diamondbacks or the coyotes soon, because if not? That’s a fate I can’t even attempt imagining.
The residents of Tempe selecting a toxic landfill over the Coyotes should tell you everything you need to know about that organization.
And as someone who is a local there, we made the right choice, especially with the massive losing streak the Coyotes are having right now.
Not to mention the Coyotes lost $115,200,000 dollars between 2013 and 2022 (making it the single biggest loss of money in the NHL over that period)
And out of the Big Four major leagues...the Arizona Coyotes are ranked 124th out of 124 teams in terms of Team Valuations
@@JorgeGarcia-lr3vkOF course you did.
But tell me, who is gonna pay for the cleaning up of the landfill now?
Because that has to be done in a couple of years. And the yotes wanted to pay for that.
So now you have to pay for that.
Hope that makes you feel better.
And also. The team started the season great. Its in a rebuild so this has to be expected.
And the loosing streak go ended last friday. And today the team won in dominating fashion against the Caps.

cleveland has them beat
Correction, the vikings are cursed. The twins have two world championships, in the last 40 years, more than most teams
Buffalo would like a word
Na Phoenix doesn't win anything. Twins at least won something.
Our Lynx had a dynasty for a bit but no one cared.
Pain man. Being an Arizona sports fan is tough. I just wanna see one of my teams win a championship here from the big four sports in my lifetime.
Granted this is USL Championship (D2 major soccer) but the league is growing with more eyes on it. Their team, Phoenix Rising, won last year in the Championship. Honestly a really impressive showing given all the top talent that was in the playoffs last October for the USL
4:16 - The Suns made the NBA Finals in 1976, not 1975. The Warriors actually won the title in 1975.
Hello everyone, I am a Arizona Diamondbacks fan and I was born on the day that they won the World series in 2001. I started watching the team at around 2006 and 2007 was basically the first time I'd ever seen them be a really good team, but don't ask me about Yorvit Torrealba or Matt Holiday. I remember the heartbreaking Game 5 lost to Milwaukee; so, don't mention Nyjer Morgan 5 times to my face. I remember the mediocre playoff droughts, getting pants on by the Dodgers on multiple occasions, and the nightmare of the 2021 season..... But this team in 2023, I will never forget this run and the chaos that we created all the way to the World Series. I hope I can experience those memories again, but we go all the way this time. #EmbraceTheChaos
Brandon Webb 😢
The chargers left, the clippers left, the padres are...well... but you picked a city that won a championship? I want a refund, Adam!!😂
P.S.: remember the 2010 bolts?
People always talk about the likes of Lions and Browns when it comes to poverty franchises in the NFL, but the Cardinals are the real poverty franchise in the league and one of their championships has some shady sides, too..
The curse of the Pottsville Maroons.
If they returned the 1925 NFL title, the Cardinals would likely have won more titles.
@@thegreatattilaThe NFL doesn’t want to do anything unfortunately so unless there’s maybe some future NFL player that’s born in Pottsville that makes an impact on the team, maybe then do they win a Super Bowl
The thing is it’s a recent crowd you’re trying to convince. The cardinals may not have a Super Bowl but since that year they went there, they’ve consistently produced teams that compete and make good playoff runs. Then they see the lions and browns in the same span and it’s a no brainer
If it weren't for that WS ring the Braves won in 2021, Atlanta would easily be on that short list of the most snakebitten sports cities. 28-3, anyone?
Also there would’ve been that blown 3-1 lead in the NLCS by the Braves in 2020 but they won it all the following year.
Seattle has one Super Bowl that no one remembers because of what happened the following year, the only MLB team that's never appeared in a World Series, an infant hockey team, and had its NBA team hijacked away to a flyover state.
I'm sure 43-8 is still remembered for being Peyton's worse performance since getting destroyed by the Jets in the 2002 WC
@@Venom3254 I mean....I remember it.....best fucking sports day of my life!
And a soccer team that won two MLS Cups
We have a soccer team? 🤣
At least their old pro hockey team was the first US-based team to ever win the Stanley Cup!
I mean at least they got to the championships! It’s funny how in sports, people often believe losing the championship game is worse than not even getting there.
As an Arizona native, this state will always fall short until we get competent ownership who want to win.
I'd say Buffalo is the most cursed city. At least Phoenix has a championship from one of its teams. The Bills seem to find new ways to choke all the time. Wide Right, Thurman forgetting his helmet, Music City Miracle, 13 seconds, and Wide Right 2. And outside of all that, they had OJ Simpson for the entire 70s and completely wasted him the whole time. Then there's that time Tom Brady showed up in the division and owned them for two decades.
The Sabres had Dominik Hasek, the greatest goalie of all time, playing for them for a decade and they could only reach 1 cup final (and Brett Hull scored the infamous "no goal"). Then they had another great goaltender in Ryan Miller for a long time and wasted him on that team. And now they're in the Pegula era and they're somehow making everything worse.
So yeah, Buffalo owns this title.
As a Buffalonian, I agree.
At least we have some lacrosse championships.
Buffalo doesn’t have four professional sports teams. Not even close.
The game 7 in Carolina that was the de-facto cup final where almost our entire starting defensemen (and multiple other starters) were out injured, up a goal headed into the 3rd and lose on the Soupy Campbell over the glass DOG penalty that is among the most stupid rules in hockey history.
And they had an NBA team for 8 years in the 1970’’s (the Braves, who never got past th second round of the playoffs despite having the underrated Bob McAdoo in his prime.
Wide Rights

Arizona?!?!?!? I'm laughing in San Diego. Zero titles in all sports. Two major franchises have moved to L.A.
Damn, that Big Ben shade caught me off guard 😂
There are actually 2 other teams in Phoenix that have won titles more recently than the D-Backs, the Mercury of the WNBA who won titles in 2007, 2009 & 2014 & Phoenix Rising FC who won the USL Championship last season (USL is the league below MLS in the US soccer pyramid) & are likely going to be "promoted" to MLS soon. Speaking of the Rising FC, Didier Drogba (of Chelsea fame) played for them for 2 seasons (2017-2018) & is a co-owner of the team.
Yeah well as long as Soccer United Management USSF kisses Donnie’s ass it’s not likely to happen
I clicked on this expecting you to somehow take shots at the city of Atlanta..... thanks for making my day.
Thank you from a lifelong Arizona sports fan. I feel seen.
I live here and call this place, Arizona: Land of Pro Sports Confusion.
Sorry, but there are other cities like San Diego or Seattle that have dealt with losing beloved franchises to never even winning a World Series (Mariner’s never even been to a WS.)
The 2001 Diamondbacks weren’t some young gritty team team that made a fluke run to the postseason; it was stacked with veterans and future hall of famers.
Philadelphia, won their 1st ever Super Bowl 6 years ago. The Phillies won their ever World Series in 2008, their 1st in 1980 (est. 1883.) Sixers won the Finals in 1983. Flyers was in the 1970’s, I think. I only experienced 2 championships in my lifetime.
Minneapolis hasn't won a championship in a major North American sport since the 90s, and three of their teams never have
San Diego laughs in curse.
Don't forget the two teams that left Minnesota won championships in their leagues. And the Twins were threatened with contraction... Yeah, definitely cursed.

Is it that I’m a bills and panthers fan tho
@csnide6702 The Hurricanes are based in Raleigh, not Charlotte, but regardless, other than that Stanley Cup in 2006, North Carolina as a whole is a cursed sports state.
I’ve lived in AZ all my life and this shit hurt me man
The coyotes were even in a division with the red wings and maple leafs in the late 1990s.
Buffalo says otherwise, last time the Bills won a championship was in the old AFL, and the Sabres are mediocrity defined. The closest they got to getting MLB was Toronto playing there during the COVID BS. Add in losing an NBA team...frustration
I’d argue San Diego or Buffalo are more cursed
It's odd that the D-Backs are the youngest team in this list and had more success than their older Arizona based teams from the other leagues. Would not be surprised if they get an MLS team and win it earlier.
Wonder what Phoenix resident, JG9 thinks of this.
No mention of the Mercury I see. Winners of three titles and two of the greatest players in basketball history. How‘bout some love for the ladies fellas!
Lol nobody knows the Mercury even exist without criminal Griner
Thank God I'm a Boston sports fan. Also I recommend doing Charolette next. Especially with how things are as of late I feel like they should be considered a cursed city.
Cleveland & Minnesota are hard to beat in this category
Sorry for your loss, man, your dad was amazing
Among cities that do not have a team in all of the Big Four sports, Buffalo is surely the most cursed. The Bills went 0-4 in early-90's Super Bowls, and the Sabres lost two Stanley Cup finals to Philadelphia and Dallas. They once had an NBA team (Braves) that won only a single play-off round in eight seasons before departing for the sunnier shores of San Diego.
Minnesota would like a word with you LMAO
Gila River Arena didn't open until 2003. The Coyotes spent thier first several seasons playing with the Suns at what is now Footprint Center. However the arena was designed for basketball so there were thousands of seats with obstructed views in hockey configuration. Very similar to when the Islanders played at Barclays Center.
I was there when we lost game 4 of the World Series I have never been so sad and proud of a team in my life let’s go boys prove everyone wrong again
My family grew up in AZ, my dad being from here and my mom from San Diego. Suffice to say, there hasn’t been a whole lot of sporting success that I’ve gotten to see in my life.
Oof... hit it where it HURTS !!
Thx for the (painful) vid
The people of Tempe literally chose a landfill over the Coyotes...
As a resident of Arizona. I appreciate the recognition of our pain.
Cleveland is always gonna be the first thing coming to mind when I think of cursed cities lol
Even tho they’re the dodger rivals, those early 2000s diamond back uniforms were nice 👌🏼 also those sleeveless Rockies jersey
Minneapolis-St. Paul: Am I a joke to you?
I thought you were gonna say Boston, we haven't won
a championship in 5 years
I still think Seattle has it worse we lost 2 teams and keep getting disappointed by being terrible or falling short in the biggest opportunities. Yes we have championships but it’s bittersweet
Not sure what arena has more agonizing defeats recently in a game 7 at home, the Suns in 2 straight blowout losses in a game 7 at the Footprint or my Bruins at the TD Garden (not just 2019 2023 but dating back to getting reverse swept against the Flyers in 2010)
I was having a good day til I saw this in my feed. Now I’m depressed.
We must always be grateful to the Diamondbacks for preventing a Yankee 4-peat
Not Cleveland or Detroit? Wow
Edit: as someone also on Hinge, I empathize with and laugh at that joke
Detroit are too good at hockey to be here.
Detroit has 18 combined titles
Minnesota has got to a different kind of curse. 4 Super Bowl losses in 10 years. Losing the NFC championship to the Eagles then seeing them win in their own stadium. Losing the Lakers to Los Angeles and the Stars to Dallas especially being known as the “State of Hockey”
Arizona. Doesn’t matter the sport we can’t win. It’s actually depressing. I don’t think i will ever see us winning any championship while I’m alive. I am 23 and the Cardinals give me zero hope.
I think it says it all about Arizona that they were the first area to have teams in all four major leagues play on the same day, with the Cardinals, Coyotes, Suns, and Diamondbacks all playing on November 4, 2001, and there of them lost. Which one won? The Diamondbacks, not only getting Arizona's only win that day, but the city's biggest win ever as that was the day they won Game 7 of the World Series.
A couple of other cities to consider for future videos would be Buffalo, San Diego, Minneapolis, and Atlanta.
Minnesota: Hold my beer, rookie
I honestly had no idea the Coyotes were a team. I'm not a big hockey fan but I would have thought I had at least heard of them.
Always ready for a Cardinal insult. Haha
Their arena football team the Rattlers are one of the best arena teams in history!!
The Cursed City of Almost, print it and ship it!
Sports teams in Arizona:
Football: They just exist
Ice Hockey: Looking for a New Home
Basketball: Efficient in Offense, Always lacking in Defense
Baseball: The only best sports team in Arizona.
While Phoenix can't say they've won a major title, look at the Mercury, Phoenix Rising FC, and Arizona Rattlers...
I thought Buffalo and San Diego were the cursed sports franchises.
As a Suns fan, this hurts. HOWEVER, that 2001 WS Title, against them dam Yankees, was EVERYTHING!
I was across the street at Coopertown and it was bananas. I’ll never forget it.
One thing I think that has to hurt them is that almost nobody who lives in Phoenix has been in Phoenix for more than one generation. Almost everyone moves there, and is already a fan of another team. So local support will always be hamstrung.
I find it crazy how no one talks about how cursed san diego is. The clippers won nothing here and their racist owner moved the team to LA, the chargers didn't win any superbowls and also skeddadled to LA, and the padres are one of the few teams to never win a world series and haven't won a pennant since 98. The only team I've seen come close to success is SDSU last year in March madness. I can't wait for SDFC to destroy my cardiovascular system
Also the Padres have made the playoffs a grand total of 7 times in franchise history.
I was glad to be alive to see my Snaked win it all in 2001, when I was just 5 years old
Last year was a sting on the chest when they came up short against the Rangers in tbe 2023 WS, but I see a bright future with the team
I know Baltimore has seen the O's win 3 World Series, and the Ravens win 2 Super Bowls, but as a native of the city, it's been rough in terms of playoff success recently. Both of those teams crumbled as the #1 seed coming off two memorable seasons, and they laid massive eggs while doing so. Did I mention that the city is a combined 2-9 in the playoffs since the infamous Freddie Gray incident in 2015. (Just like Buffalo being cursed by William McKinley) That city isn't as cursed as bad as Phoenix, Atlanta, Buffalo, San Diego, Detroit, and a few others, but considering that both of the teams in Charm City are masters at blowing leads and crumbling in the playoffs, you have to include us in that conversation. (IN MY OPINION IT SUCKS!)
I'm a big az sports fan. It's tough man.
I know I haven't said this in a while but it's still true...this is a FPV BANGER 😤
You know a city's cursed when their football team has to start Ryan Lindley at QB in the playoffs
I live in Tucson and I'm not pleased that they're trying to make the whole state claim the Coyotes.
As an Arizona sports fan myself, yeah, it is hard
good lord i forgot all about that suns fan getting punched out a few years ago😭
Gila River Arena is now called Desert Diamond Arena
Maybe if the NFL didn't screw over the Pottsville Maroons and start the curse, the Cardinals would be better
Atleast Phoenix won something last year (was in soccer but still)
A championship is still a championship
buffalo would have something to say about this. the dbacks have a WS.
Since he was in those highlights, this feels as good a time as any to remind everyone how amazing Larry Fitzgerald was. For my money, the best WR to ever do it. He'd have smashed so many records were it not for years spent in the Dark Ages of Quarterbacking with the likes of Kevin Kolb and Drew Stanton. When he got a Kurt Warner or Carson Palmer, he set playoff records. Dude defied physics in ways I only thought Barry Sanders was capable of, and I don't say that lightly. If you don't know, do yourself a favour, and look up some Larry Fitzgerald highlights.
What hurts the most? No matter what team it is, they'll give you the most entertaining playoff game in history... Only to come up short in the end
That Dbacks team that beat the Yankees was somethin else, that was a great world series
Looking back at the cardinals, they only made 11 playoffs appearances since 1947
