- Theory is a relatively new brand in the audio industry, but they're quickly making a name for themselves with their innovative products and high-quality sound. At CEDIA 2023, Theory caused a buzz with their new line of surface mount soundbars and Pro Audio Solutions.
In this video, we take a closer look at the Theory Demo and what they have to offer. Theory founder Paul Hales had quite the pedigree in the industry, so this video will help you learn more about him, the company's vision, and what's in store for the future.
After watching the video, I think you'll know why they were the talk of the town at CEDIA 2023!
BTW...props to / krutikovmusic for the awesome remix of "Intergalactic" in both the intro and outro.

0:00 Intro
9:26 Start of Music Demos - Zábava
I vividly remember the Hales speakers in the 1980's. Paul began at a young age! This presentation is almost unreal - awesome!
Props for the intro! It's clear some effort went into that 💪
That intro, demo and soundquality was next level all together. Really enjoyed the vid, thanks!
Much appreciated!
I Own a pair of Hales Transcendence 5's from the Early period he spoke of. End Game speaker and haven't found anything (B&W, KEF, Focal Utopia, etc..) better since. Going to have to hear these now. Paul your amazing sir. Thank you from an old fan.
I recommend you watch the demo with a decent pair of headphones. The sound quality is good enough to get a feel for their sound. Serious auditions are best done by visiting a dealer or their Experience Center in Orange County.
I've been hearing a lot of this brand from a rep I know from a previous job.. She is always telling me about the cool stuff going on.
Nice to see a demo and more insights.. Great stuff.
If you guys have comments on the new intro, feel free to let me know your feedback. I did it myself 😬
Likely will make it shorter, but this is a trial balloon.
The inro has a preponderance of excitement. Initially I thought I clicked on an ad or some other channel on my feed.
I was just gonna ask if that is your new intro. I liked it!
Perfect background for highend home theater. Nice to meet your products!
unreal dynamics in person. great demo
Much like webinars and live presentations and going to Voutone presentations I’ve attended for the past 10 years In the AV industry.
Wow this guy has rehearsed his presentation at least 100 times and used the word right? in the form of a question at least 30 times! Very professional presentation. His market is more for pro audio/ Custom commercial, and residential’s installer industry. With a systems approach! about the aluminum design and not plastic in the drivers. Also mentioned on numerous occasions, the value proposition like the guy is really speaking to CIOs/CFO’s of companies.
The demo was home theater and whole house audio application, in that case it was very life like, ingaging great for the above mentioned prospects
New intro & outro are top level :D
Thanks 😅
the old Hales T8 where/are amazing !
In the somewhat frantic opening credits there is a picture of Theoretical Applied Physics where "Dave Reviews Bacch SP"- around 4 seconds in - does anyone know what speakers these are? Thanks
VMPS...I have videos with Dave and he walks through his rig via zoom interviews... You should be able to find them in the archive if you want more information.
@@AudiophileJunkie Super stuff - I used to own a pair of Infinity IRS V's back in the day - whilst I don't miss them I reckon I could live with these now the children have grown up - hard to find I should imagine
They may be harder to find than you think...in good condition... But best of luck... You may just have to be patient.
Very impressive..and watching on an iPad….
Thanks for the coverage. Nice for home theater and commercial sound system. Hv a feeling though this doesn’t compete with the MBL, Avant-garde and Magico even from CZcams you kind of hear that. Thinking the LS50 sounds better than these speakers when we’ll amped then again that’s much more expensive likely.
You're talking about vastly different price points.
@@AudiophileJunkie Yes I think I am but these are not cheap. When you hv celebrity clients even Oligarchs price may not be an issue but maybe people don’t appreciate paying more for an MBL home theater compared to this meaning it’s good enough paying more even if better not deemed necessary. It does sound very clear likely much better than the atmos theater in our area.
To be DCI listed and part of the Bel Air circuit, you need to choose brands that are certified and credentialed for certain performance standards. Many audiophile brands that may sound better, don't have those credentials yet, so these rich people go with the best certified options. It's more important to then to get instant access to movies at their home versus the theater and have the credentials to get that privilege... Versus the difference in sound quality.
In some cases like MBL, they would have a harder time with multi channel certifications from Dolby because as you may have heard in the demo, the speakers have to be directive and drivers even angled to certain specs in a HT.
@@AudiophileJunkie Thanks for the info. Didn’t know you need a certified system to hv early access. Just mentioned MBL because their demo of the extreme multi channel was just outrageous can’t compare that to everything else I’ve heard including a certified top of the line JBlL home theater in a dedicated certified custom theater. Just don’t see a usd 15k system ++ as affordable that’s why I reference the quality to an ls50 or even the r3 meta looks to sound better on music which is actually cheaper.
Is the CC something new for the channel? Thanks for the show coverage!
Yes it is! Do you like it? I know many people can't listen when watching, so I'm adding this to most of my videos
Yes it does help.Thanks.
Was Hales the company whose speakers' front baffles were famously made from concrete?
Yes, the Concept was designed like that. However the Revelation and Transcendence had a 4" thick MDF baffle.
I still have the Revelation 3, so I'm somewhat familiar with Paul's products.
NICE
I have the theory setup got it recently.
1 X sb85
6 X sb25
2 X sb15
acl-3306.
its pretty expensive , but very high end.
Nice!
Am listening through the phone and the quality is amazing through phone speakers!
great job Jason, please edit 🤑

I’m sure it sounds decent there, but it sounds horrific on the video. A lot of phase anomalous effects, heavy handed sounding dimensional matrix effects, with a lot of phase and aliasing issues. Of course you hear the room interaction issues, but I assume that’s just setup and limited options. Not sure what mics are used to record this, but that could[ be contributing. Sounds like it might be useful for home theater use, but other than wiz-bang effects demo purposes, it does not sound like a audiophile based implementation. Maybe you need to record from a sweet spot or something has to be tweaked…?
Your intro was great though.
You think people pay top dollar for mediocre performance? What do you think when its built in in a dedicated room with professional acoustic treatment where the technicians finetune the whole system?
Audiophile Junkie, If what I am hearing on my system right now truly representative of what you heard in the that room you have an awesome recording rig and Theory Audio is now my endgame audio desire. I'll never be able to afford them, but a guy has got to have a dream. Right?
That’s amazing. I’m listening with some really decent headphones, and while the dynamics are evocative, the amount of aliasing, diffraction and other sources of harmonic and timbral distortion makes it hard to listen to. Of course there is also room and modal issues that weigh heavily, but that’s not at the core of what at least I hear. Could be a combination of whatever mic you used and compounding of room-system interaction issues. Maybe there’s a sweet spot where these issues are reduced. Sounds like it would be nice for home theater use though, but it’s really hard to know whether it’s critical listening use capable.
these inwall speakers sounded a lot better than I was expecting...32 min ps I had no idea that Terminators aged...
Next Terminator movie will be on a senior citizens cruise ship
