That all being said.. Shanahan is the big one and we all know this is his team, you can put all the talking heads you want between him and this team but the truth is, he made this group and he chose what to do with it. If I was Treliving when I first showed up here, everyone of the coaching staff would have been gone and I would have done something shocking with the big four, literally whatever was available. In the regular season you can win a lot of games with a small group of highly skilled forwards. In the playoffs however that goes out the window. You win in the playoffs based upon things like your second and third D-men pairings and your second unit penalty kill. Requires a deep team with talent spread throughout. This isn't rocket science. Its a psychological issue in leafs town. This has been happening for years! Never fully rebuilding, outlandishly HIGH contracts, and, like most Leafs fans, self induced blindness to the situation. There is a reason good players have left that team, more importantly, that town. It sucks to go thru a real rebuild. But having a team thag gives you false playoff hopes by having an "ok" season regularly, with "much better" seasons sprinkled in, is just unrealistic in reaching the cup. They should have rebuilt for real before mathews got there, and they would be in a real position to make at least ECF. It sucks, but maybe the fans need to not boo their home team in a pre-season game, because the redwings are whipping them without any starting stars playing. Players want to leave because of the pressure of unrealistic expectations from fans on players who are playing on a team whose management wont go all in on having a well rounded team. As i understand it, the Leafs have very little in regards to draft picks coming in the next 5 yrs.(they r1 of lowest rated teams for draft picks coming up in their system) they have paid cup winning money to players (not mathews) who are literally not cup winners. And unfortunately, they wont be while in tor for yrs to come.

(When Leafs have had a good goalie, they have lacked in other positions enough that having a good net minder isn't enough) #2 they have no draft pool of 1st line players itching to get the opportunity; if they did, they would've called them up. #3....I will let others add to the list, so I'm not the only kid in class answering every question!

    I'm not defending the Leafs, all that is said is true, but here are some other factors to consider. It's not injuries that plague the Leafs currently, it's illness, whether flu or stomach bugs, I don't know, but one can't play when they are ill. Willy was out not due to injury, but migranes. Notice his tinted visor? Sammy is a terrible high pressure goalie. What is he doing 3 feet out of the blue paint during that Boston PP? What was he doing on JVR's goal. That shit would never have gotten in on Swayman or Ullmark. Both plays are not his fault, but his goaltending is. Let's not forget what happened to the Boston president trophy winners of last year in the first round. You don't think they have something to prove? Credit to them for doing so. Tavares has one year left? Marner also with a NTC, which I hope he will exercise in terms of allowing the organization to get something for him, instead of him just walking to free agency. I would not sign him. Matthews is actually playing well this series, despite being sick most if not all of it. He's clearly dealing with a respiratory illness. How do I know? Because the lack of common curtesy camera crew zoomed in on his nostrils in game 3 and you could see it all flared up, peeling, red, from excessive nose blowing. Good luck next year Leafs. Sincerely, your die hard fan since 92-93.

  • @ianbethune9235
    @ianbethune9235 Před 13 dny

    The Leafs are done because their coach won't demand his team to fix their lack of defence. They bunch up, all going for the puck in one spot and get in each other's way, while the opposing team remains spread out so they can pass it to each other, and not collide with each other. Also, when the Leafs are on the defensive and boxed in, they will just stand still and watch the other team pass it to each other, instead of skating towards the opposing player with the puck and forcing him to shoot the puck too early to be of any use. This has been going on for years. First step for improvement is to fire their entire coaching staff.

We could have had a better GM than Dubas. Dubas made one dumb move after another and Shanahan just let Dubas walk all over him. Keefe should have been fired after that collapse against Montreal and Shanahan and Dubas should have been as well. He does fire Dubas but then what does he do? He hires the first GM available and does not look around or do any research. Treliving is NO better than Dubas if not worse. The ENTIRE coaching staff NEEDS to be replaced including that lunatic Sheldon Keefe. This has gone on for FAR too long. We need change and we need it NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • @roberthanks1636
    @roberthanks1636 Před 13 dny

    The classic hockey formula for success is a couple of star forwards, a star d-man, a kick-ass goalie, and a solid supporting cast. But Shanahan and Dubas thought that they were smarter than everyone else, and they decided to over-invest cap money in four star forwards. And with Tavares getting older and slower, they have four star contracts, but really only three star players. And of those, Marner has consistently shown that he is not a strong playoff performer. Now we have a situation where all four are either injured or old. The Leafs would have been better off if they had kept Freddie Anderson in net, and traded one of their marquee forwards for a great d-man and a bunch of draft picks or supporting players.

    Not sure why this is such a shock honestly. The Bruins have owned Toronto in the playoffs for quite awhile now and they swept all 4 games in the regular season. It was strange to me when Bruin fans were upset we dropped our last 3 games and ended up second instead of first. I was happy because it meant Toronto in the first round and not Tampa, a team we have had issues with. Some teams just match up against other teams much better than they would others. Could boil down to systems etc. Throw in lack of confidence due to past results and this is what happens.
    What Toronto needs is to deal some of that salary cap weight they carry in 4 players and get a few Bertuzzii types and a good young goalie along with a few good draft picks. They will not win a cup with this crew. I see Edmonton as very similar. Certainly right now Skinner is very confident and playing well, but if he went down or lost that confidence, good bye Edmonton. Due to a much easier conference and division, Edmonton will win a round or 2 but no cup either. Not deep enough !!!!!!!! IMO
