    1. Lift heavy things (resistance training) | 2. You need to make sure you get enough sleep! | 3. Eating enough calories (reverse dieting + resistance training helps with metabolic rate), eat enough protein - thermic effect, eat enough B vitamins (especially critical).

    • @MissFitAndNerdy

      One key mistake: eating protein is NOT for the thermic effect. That’s a common “hack” that really doesn’t make a difference

    I went low cal, lifts started suffering. I was losing weight and BF but i looked sick. Increased cal. Performance went up. Put on more muscle and weight - better overall body comp and eventually got rid of the extra BF. It doesn't have to be rocket science just listen to your body, our bodies are intelligent. The info in these vids is spot on! Gym performance is the number 1 priority for me. If that thrives then everything else usually falls into place

    So many people just looking for specific actions to do to boost metabolism without the willing to understand science behind it that she explains to us. This is exactly why there are so many people struggling with their weight and eventually ED (me included 1 year ago). If all fitness youtubers had a scientific approach like her, i think there would be less people struggling with eating related mental issues.
    Anyway, your videos are easy to understand, with a lot of explanation based on science, they need definitely more views.

    I have been struggling with anorexia for the last 7 years. Went from 38kg up to 49kg. But I still struggle with calories. I workout 5 times a week and eat healthy and try my best to eat enough calories but it seems like my stomach holds all the fat and doesn't want to lose it. If I under eat it stays flat but as soon as I go on 0 calories in vs out or try to add calories to build more muscles it looks bigger and bigger. I'm so afraid to add even more calories as it triggers my anorexia and I start under eating again. =(

      I can relate to this on some level, but if you want advice just don't worry about the fat, it's just where your body stores it and It could just be boating which is totally normal and goes away, after you start to Boost your metabolism I'm sure that fat will burn off!🔥 remember it gets worse before it gets better :) I hope you get the results and healthy lifestyle you desire xx❤❤

    How do you know if you actually have a slow metabolism or if you are just, eating too much I guess? Coming from a ketogenic diet I am unsure how to eat to fuel my body and to lose weight. I feel like ‘traditional’ (read: carbs) ways of eating never ever have left me with weight loss, but ketogenic is hard for me to maintain consistently. I am wondering if the ketogenic diet slowed my metabolism? Sorry my questions are all over the place!!

    • @veronicafensel926
      @veronicafensel926 Před 4 lety +2

      I think eating keto for a while has it so you are more efficient with glucose, meaning you need less. So going back to eating the same amount of carbs as before could potentially have you store it easier. Getting enough protein seems to be key for success. I think if you reduce the frequency of meals (no snacking, try fasting 14 hrs each day) and eat until you're totally satisfied each time with the focus on protein then it becomes pretty easy and you don't have to be so strict with macros.

    • @MissFitAndNerdy
      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +4

      Theoretically keto should not slow down your metabolism because your body can take all of the extra calories it needs from stored fat. There’s no concrete definition of a slow metabolism, but personally I would say that if what you are eating to maintain weight makes you sad and miserable then you definitely need to speed up your metabolism. Or, if the calories you need to eat to lose weight are unhealthfully low, then you also need to speed up your metabolism.

    This video kinda discouraged me. I actually like to run and it's my main form of exercise right now. I usually run for 40 minutes and then do 20 minutes stretching and 20-30 minutes of arms, back or abs if my muscles aren't sore. Now I am feeling like I am doing this all wrong, but this is really working for me mentally so I honestly don't think I could or want to spend 60 minutes lifting weights. I am so confused on what to do. I have lost 13 pounds in 6 weeks doing this but I am scared my metabolism is ruined now so I will just gain it back.

      There is NOTHING wrong with cardio if you love it! If you want to continue to do it, then you have nothing to worry about. The only problem with it is that if you suddenly stop then you'll have to majorly decrease your calorie intake to account for the decreased movement. Whereas with resistance training, you have much more of a buffer and don't have to decrease intake as much. So keep doing what you love!

    I absolutely love this advice. For a long time I was losing a lot of weight but my problem was that I had to keep eating lower and lower calories to maintain it. And since quarantine I have gained 20 pounds back but instead of going on keto or keto vegan or Rob vegan or a short term diet I am working very hard to build muscle. Because I noticed thatI already eat over my calories because I have gained weight back so now I am using those extra calories to build muscle I’m literally trying to even out my metabolism so I have more muscle that will eat away the fat. I do not allow myself to do cardio I focus solely on weightlifting.

    bodybuilders manipulate their calories to gain or lose weight they barley do any cardio and are shredded.

    I am doing so much because It has reduced my anxiety and really made me happy. Also, I do not have a lot of resistance training equipment at home so I have been using water bottles and gallons to build up. And I don’t generally go to gyms so cardio feels more in my comfort zone.

    I feel like a recomposition is my next step. I'm only 148cm and 44kg but I'm what you might call "skinny fat". I'm eating between 1,100 and 1,300 calories a day. I've been lifting weight for years. I'm lucky to have access to dumbbells and a barbell whilst in lockdown and now I have plenty of time for resting and recovery too!

    • @MissFitAndNerdy
      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +4

      Try a reverse diet. Eating 1100-1300 calories per day is pretty low even for someone your height if you're actively lifting. Try to get up to 1500-1600. Slowly increase while lifting. This will function as a reverse diet AND help you build muscle. Skinny fat people usually don't need recomp because that would imply you need to lose fat too. But when you build muscle, your body fat % decreases so you look leaner without losing fat

    • @MissFitAndNerdy

      Ah yeah they’re different! With the reverse diet the goal is to eat more to speed up the metabolism. Whether or not you gain or lose weight or your body composition changes is irrelevant to the process. A recomp means you’re trying to build muscle and lose fat roughly at the same time but maintain your current weight.

Freshman year of college lost I think at least 20 more began weights and got curves. I had a question about reverse dieting:
    Say you plan to add 50 calories per week to daily intake, can that be done as a daily thing? I.e monday 1200 calories, tuesday 1210, Wednesday 1220 etc.. and just be as effective? If not better 💁‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
    Thanks! 😁

I want to lose weight. Between 50 to 70 pounds. Is my new exercise routine going to mess up my metabolism? I'm tracking my exercise and calories now to find my maintenance calories. @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +3

      From a physical standpoint, yes. That would be a good idea. However, when it comes to recovering from an eating disorder you should work with a professional to find a strategy that is going to work best for you to help you shift your mindset as well. If having to track your calories while reverse dieting causes you to feel obsessive and/or restrictive, then it might not be the best course of action

      Without knowing more about your background, exercise history, current nutrition, etc. it’s impossible for me to know where are you might be going wrong. However, gaining 2 kg does not mean that something IS going wrong. Well reverse dieting, some people gain weight, some people lose weight, and some people maintain weight. None of these is an indicator that it is going wrong or right. Just trust the process

    Of course all those points in trying to get more metabolism and losing fat are critical and complex. It’s not like a linear function. I definitely feel more energized after lifting. Cardio is definitely good if you haven’t exercised in a long time but for adding muscle it is not good. Lately there have been workouts that I have done which are mostly fat burning since the Fitbit app you can add workouts on there and it tells you what most of your workout is in which zone.

    8:21 sounds almost exactly like what I did when I started lifting again. I think the problem was that I significantly changed my diet and probably (I wasn't calculating calories beforehand) put myself in a 1000-1500 calorie deficit. When I lost weight, I ended up losing a lot more muscle mass than body fat. I was so disappointed that I'd lost 10 pounds and my bf% went up.

I want to start strength training and reverse diet to 2,500 calories. If I stop cardio, would my reverse diet have to start at 1500 calories (since I eat 2000 burn 500) or can I start the reverse diet at 2000 calories? • @MissFitAndNerdy
      @MissFitAndNerdy  Před 4 lety +1

      I agree with Collin. Start your reverse diet by slowly decreasing cardio while keeping calories the same. Decrease by 30-60 total minutes per week until you're doing the minimum cardio that you can (ideally none for now). THEN slowly increase calories while resistance training

    @MissFitandNerdy please please please see this, I know this video is old. I'm on a journey to lose 100 lbs to start with and then see how I feel from there since what was my ideal weight 10 years ago may change for me (especially assuming some of that is likely going to be muscle mass). I am doing the mini cut cycle and as such I do function at a calorie deficit except for during maintenance weeks/months. I've just started incorporating more activity, I'm largely focused on intense workouts rather than long forms of cardio. Does having so much body weight count as an effective form of resistance training right now? Also I know I burn calories in my workouts. A huge question I'm struggling with right now is if I should eat to replace all extra calories burned or should I just go with what I've been doing which is just listening to when my body tells me it's hungry now that I've been counting calories for long enough that I feel like when I want to eat it is likely for a reason.. (I do make sure to eat some calories extra that are protein focused after the workout just to make sure I'm giving it the fuel it needs to build the muscle and that I don't care if those calories go over my deficit alotment).
