    ABOUT THE BOOK:
The result of a multi-year excavation of Dolenz’s astonishing personal collection, I’m Told I Had A Good Time is a literal treasure trove of photography, artwork, handwritten lyrics, scripts and assorted ephemera spanning 1945-1978. Lavishly illustrated with more than 1200 images, it includes nearly 500 photos of Micky Dolenz, more than 200 of Davy Jones and over 150 of Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork (respectively). The majority of the book’s contents is previously unpublished, including all-new commentary and captions from Micky Dolenz, compiled from 20 hours of exclusive interviews conducted by Andrew Sandoval from February 2022 through June 2023.
Dolenz was not only an avid chronicler of The Monkees’ activities, but also the intensely creative circle around him. Included are more than two dozen unpublished images of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, photos of The Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones and Ron Wood, and several pages of Micky’s friends, The Buffalo Springfield. During 1967 and 1968, Micky also shot incredible unpublished photos of Otis Redding, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, “Mama” Cass Elliot, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Jack Nicholson and Harry Nilsson. In the 1970s, he captured the likes of Keith Moon, Alice Cooper, Albert Brooks, Ringo Starr and Micky’s group: Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart.
In the book’s introduction, Micky explains his hidden archive: “I honestly don’t know why I started keeping this stuff! I just always kept things since I was a child. My mom did too. But I never had any intention of doing anything with it. I certainly did not keep it with any intent to produce anything. It just became a habit; I would just literally throw stuff into boxes. Maybe in the back of my mind I thought that someday I might stick everything into some sort of scrapbook. As far as the photos and films, I never thought I would do anything with them either, except maybe show them to the grandkids. The editors of this book found stuff at the bottom of boxes that I had no idea still existed. No one has been more surprised than myself with the rediscovery.”

Thank you again for the book, the podcast, the EP, everything! As a younger Monkees fan, I feel so blessed to have new Monkees/Micky content still coming out!
My question isn’t related to the book, but something I’ve been curious about for a while. Micky wrote the song “Alicia”, the B side to his “Love Light” single from 1979. I think it’s some of his finest song-writing. It tells a really compelling story, so I was wondering what or who was the inspiration behind the song?

It's a joke that the Monkees aren't in the hall of fame, they have sold more records than 75% of the current members of the hall

A little backwards....it's the Hall of Fame that's a joke....the Monkees are awesome.
The RARHOF is not an institution....it's a privately run business that is subject to the whims of the people running it.
They pick who they like and ignore who they don't. I couldn't give a rats @$$ who they pick. They are irrelevant.
I know who the real legends are to me.

Any stories and pictures about the group "D, D & T " in "I'm Told I Had A Good Time" book which consisted of Micky Dolenz, Coco Dolenz and Peter Tork? I believe they did a few performances together back in the early 1970s. Not too many fans are aware of them or their existence.

It's awesome to hear you answer fan questions! I've got my copy of the super delluxe ordered and can't wait! Maybe a different question from the others- I remember hearing a couple years ago that you were suing the FBI for records they kept about the Monkees! What can you tell us about why they were investigating, and any progress on getting the materials?

You didn't say my name, but thank you for asking some of my questions Andrew!🙂 Also, thank you very much for so graciously answering them Micky!💙 I figured that History was likely a favorite subject of yours, along with Science! I also wonder if you're a very organized person. Seeing as how you have been able to keep so much history, in your possession for so long! God bless you both! I can not wait for my copy of the book!😊❤💚💙🧡

Hello I have a question for Micky. When the Monkees did the Justus tour in Europe why wasn't one of the concerts not filmed for a Live concert dvd release and a live CD release? From Brian Whelan

Thank you Andrew and Micky for the podcast on the book. Does the book show or write a little bit about Micky’s parents lives or careers? Or when they met? I wasn’t sure if the book started on March 8, 1945.

Micky hair is naturally curly right? Is it true that he hated having to straighten it on season 1 of the Monkees?

When I met him at fanboy in Orlando Fl on September 2nd. I asked him if he was ever annoyed by having to be in hair and makeup longer than the other guys, because of having fluffy curly hair. He said that he didn't remember if it took him the longest in hair in make up, but if it did he didn't mind. He also said that they used a large barrel curling iron to make his hair into that curly fro!

Hey Micky, when are you going to finally ace the hat. We the fans hate to know that you have a some kind of painful self loathing because of your thinning hair. At least that's what you project every time you wear a hat. We love you regardless. we much rather have you open minded, happier, and relieved. please, either get a haircut to compliment what do you do have, seek to have it done medically but just get rid of those hats.
