Davy was so adorable and funny. He will be greatly missed but so glad we have his performances on film. Micky's love for Davy is evident in this interview.
Disagree. Peter Tork's relationship w/the Monkees was complicated. He paid a fortune to break his contract & walk away. But he also found increasing joy in the reunions and worked with them again many times. He did not diss Davy Jones; he admitted that he liked & loved & admired the others in varying measures. Like a brother. Appropriate for Dolenz was not the same as appropriate for Tork.
Sunday, January 20, 2019--5:57 pm CST Davy Jones has been gone for 7 years now. Mike, Micky, and Peter miss Davy very much. Peter is my favorite Monkee, but I also miss Davy very much. Terry Marvin (Dallas, Texas)
That's the way to do a tribute interview with one of Davy's friends...not the terrible phony one Rachel Maddow did with Peter, where it wound up being a chipper chit chat session about them, with Peter clearly there not to pay tribute to Davy, who he didn't seem to even be that chummy with. Anyway, enjoyed this interview and glad to hear Micky & Davy had remained such good friends. They were always my favorites.
Yes that Richard Madcow interview turned to politics. I really didn't want Peter to do there. Peter walked out on more than one tour because... according to him... let me see how I can soften this... basically, during the reunions, Davey was the director and apparently he micromanaged. I met Davey once after a performance of Oliver! in the '90s at that time playing the old man (can't remember the character's name - Davey was brilliant; absolutely nailed the part better than anyone else). I thought he was curt. But it could be because of the excitement after a show. Who knows? I don't hold that against him. Anyone who loves horses is okay in my book.
Mike Nesbitt said that Davy was the core and leader of that group and "the rest of us were his side-kicks". It's too bad Piers didn't shut his pie-hole and let Micky speak more from his heart. Good God, you twit, this man just lost a life long friend and you cut him off and want to change the subject and talk about the genesis of the Monkees (twit).
Piers is a knob. I would have to disagree with MIke's assessment but then again, I wasn't there. I think that comes across in the revivals. Mike was definitely Alpha during the original run.
I saw them on the reunion tour was a great thing to see them together (without Mike Nesmith). Oh well I can say I saw Davy anyhow. It was great to find all these videos here.

MorbidManMusic The record companies controlled how recordings were made back then. Studio musicians were used on most of the well known artists recordings even though the artists themselves could play their own instruments. It is not true that the Minkees could not play instruments. Peter Tork played 9 different instruments . He played banjo on a song recorded by George Harrison. Mike Nesmith was already a singer/song writer. Micky learned to play a Spanish guitar from his father. He did have to learn drums though. Davy Jones did know drums but they preferred to have him out front because he was “cute” but not tall. He sometimes was shown playing drums and played them in concerts shortly before his death. The producers of the tv show wanted session musicians to play the music while the Monkees sang because after all they were aput together group who had never played together before. They did the unexpected thing and decided to become a real band. No one ever thought they would become a real group but strange things happen in this world. They sounded great together. They deserve more credit than the Rock Hall want to give them. They have made a lasting impression . Their legacy will live on. Blame Mike Nesmith for telling everyone that they didn’t play on their early recordings. The public at first took it to mean they couldn’t play ; when in fact they simply were not permitted to do so. The Wrecking Crew was used all the time on the west coast and on the east coast they had studio musicians in the “Brill Building. Artists today have a lot more freedom today but studio musicians are still routinely used. That’s why most touring bands don’t sound like their records, although some well off bands actually bring or hire an orchestra to tour with them so it sounds like their recordings. I say put the Monkees in the Rock and Roll Hall if Fame!
Davy Jones dies and Micky, his long-time collaborater appears on the show to pay homage to him and this guy asks him the same old shit like how was the band formed??? Give me a fucking break. I hate these shit kicker tv hosts who apparently know nothing or have to be the lowest common denominator for the masses. I'm used to hardcore stuff.
All of the pain Micky must be in losing all his band mates watched him in an interview when he stated he had a hard time watching the videos with the other 3 he has to turn away we all feel your pain and lost Micky I was 10 when I started watching The Monkees which made it the early 70s
Micky was holding back his tears at the end of this video over the loss of a man he considered his brother. Bless his heart
I grew up with the Monkees !!
Davy was so adorable and funny. He will be greatly missed but so glad we have his performances on film. Micky's love for Davy is evident in this interview.
I will always love the Monkees ❤
RIP Davey 💙🙏
I met Davy twice while on tour. So when I heard I cried for a good long time. Miss him so much!
Wonderful tribute. Way more appropriate than what peter Tork said on the Maddox show. You did right by your friend Mickey Dolenz!
What did he say?
I thought Davy and Peter were best friends I have a hard time believing he would say Antioch bad. Unless I am confusing the blond headed guy.
Unfortunately maybe what peter said was true. I loved davy jones also but davy was not perfect.
Agreed, Del. Added a link to that Dolenz interview in my earlier comment.

Micky is still with us and still funny being alive today!

The Monkees brought a lot of joy to people. Davy was a huge part of that. RIP.
My childhood. The Monkees. Now in my late 50s and sad each time a childhood memory hero passes.
Inevitable but oh the memories. xxxx
R.I.P DAVY AND PETER
And now Mike. May all of them be surrounded by True Love True Peace and True Happiness.
Rest in peace, Davey. You'll be missed.
However, CNN is not missed. First time I've watched anything from them in more than a decade.
Ha, same here with CNN. What a crock.
Fox is the worst , they don't call it the bullshit factory for nothing .
Every time he wears that hat, I think of Truman Capote in Murder by Death.

Pretty much the best of Piers Morgan during his time on CNN too. Great interview - handled so well.
Love you guys all my heart ❤️ 💜♥️💕
Mickey's a sweetheart ❤
I will Davy Jones forever..he will always be close to my heart
Davy Jones is not a verb! (Just teasing) 😉

Theres so many that die at age 66. I have 2 grandparents and my dad all died at 66. Weird that
A very sad day Davey Jones died

Conrad Gallardo And how do you know he didn’t use any of these? Genetics likely contributed. His parents died young. RIP Davy. We love you!
Ludicrous. What's your medical degree in? Charlatanism?
*What would you do if one day you found yourself 'being someone else?'*
*And what if that 'being someone else' lasted all your life?*
haha:2:54 the photos
I hate to say but I didn't know he had died.
It seems Mickey was right and it was genetic.
a garage band?...... They were brilliant composers! Randy scouce git! Writing wrongs, etc, yeah right! The Monkees were exceptional pop musicians!
Yes, exceptional and unique.

I generally agree with your comment but it’s possible that he may have included that for younger viewers who may not have been aware of the history.
