15:29 Lucy wouldn't have taken it so hard if she knew that NCR was originally started by vault dwellers from Vault 15.
Maximus is like a child, he and the other squires were "shielded" from the world (and the truth) so he will make many mistakes like a growing kid will do, he is still in development and hanging out with Lucy is actually his best case scenario to becoming a good person.
Maximus was also assumedly not a good candidate for being a Squire. He had the worst jobs at the base, didn't seem to study the material for classes, and was beat up by everyone except the one guy that got a promotion. He probably shouldn't have been in the situation with Knight Titus to begin with, and someone like Dane or Thaddeus would have likely sacrificed themselves to save Titus.
Which is funny, because the Knights that are around the BOS are probably Squires that let their Knights die, otherwise they'd have died before their Knight.

Shady Sands first appears in the first fallout game, which becomes the NCR (New California Republic) in fallout 2. The show writers actually did a good job at picking things from all the games of the franchise. Cant wait to see how they model a deathclaw.

Exactly! They are so genuine and kind, intelligent and natural. Like some good time with good friends. And I found and meet this wonderful channel when they watched my beloved "Das Boot" movie, back then nobody never ever reacted to that piece of art and they was the first of all. That movie is so versatile and legendary tragic (at drama and realism).. and their reaction (for that movie) described this couple at most precisely way. And i subsrcibed to this channel since then. uwu!

Shady Sands was a little shanty town in the very first FallOut game ~100 years before the show was set, it became a trading hub and kept growing, in Fallout 2 it was closer to a small city and was getting to the point that they started to print their own money to replace bottlecaps and started spreading outwards to places like New Vegas.
In 2 they call it the NCR and you learn that it started as shady sands. I don't remember any NCR currency in 2
@@vincegamer In Fallout 2 it was just called "Money", little golden coins. But the lore explained that it was the NCR that made them to replace the bottlecap.
The paper notes came in later, around the time FO3/NV were set, because of the NCR running out of gold to mint the coins.
@@jimmybonez7528 They were running out of gold because the Brotherhood started and then lost a war with the NCR, and nuked their gold reserves. The NCR then tried to switch to paper bills backed by water, but they were severely devalued, being worth half their face value in caps.

If you were a cannibal then I nice juicy vault dweller would be like Grade A Sirloin of the wasteland. Good food, no radiation, sheltered low stress life, medical care. When the fiend saw the pipboy it was over. She was looking a Lucy like how a hungry person would look at a juicy burger.

Maximus couldn’t keep his identity secret any longer. They had the head, so they were going back to the Brotherhood. Obviously, when they got there, he was going to have to take the suit off. He couldn’t just live the rest of his life in that power armor. That’s why he told Thaddeus they had to get their stories straight. If he came back in that armor and Thaddeus didn’t know, Max would be killed for sure. He couldn’t wait any longer. He also just had a bad experience being betrayed by someone when he revealed his identity, which is why he gave Lucy the name Titus. He just couldn’t reveal that twice in a row after how it went with Thaddeus.
Did you notice, when they walk up to the medical center, you can see a vault in the background.
I was actually kind of mixed on this show at first. It was this episode the made me really start liking the show.

I think you guys are forgetting that maximum is likely as naive as lucy is. he's been with the brotherhood since childhood, and they're not... great. but thaddeus was like "yeah we never had a problem with maximum, we just beat the shit out of him because it's the thing to do", he doesn't assume the brotherhood are bad because he's been indoctrinated by them.

I take umbrage at TBR's repeating homage! 😂 Have fun, guys! Hopping into reacts I haven't sat down to watch along just yet.
If you've played Fallout 4, you'll know about the merchants, vendors that travel the Wasteland, wit a couple of guards and a brahmin carrying a huge pack of goods for sale. Weapons, ammo drugs, etc. Well one of them is named Crickett, and the fiend couple that Maximus and Lucy encounter, the female is a dead ringer for Crickett.
When they called them Fiends I was expecting Vegas Fiends, those are HARDCORE raiders

Yes so what we know so far the nuclear explosion destroying Shady Sands happened only 15 years ago or so when Maximus was a boy. This was confusing for Lucy too, thinking the last explosion was 219 years ago during the apocalypse.
Notice Vault 32 was cleaned up, but they smashed the computer that had the data that Rose MacLean Norm's mom's Pipboy opened the vault.
Also Betty might have told the truth she burried Rose: remember episode 1? they carried all the fallen's bodies to a Compost room.... Burried means... surface funeral.
Yet while Betty and Beth keeps their secrets they clearly not hostile. Only got their own little secrets....
YOu mention the comments of THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY which makes even more sense when you consider the order in which the characters here are introduced. THE GOOD (Lucy), THE BAD (Maximus!) and THE UGLY (Ghoul) which would makes Maximus the overall villain/antagonist of the show going forward
I think Betty had something to do with what happened to gate 32 and the invasion on gate 33

My guess Maximus not too genius plan is to return with the reward, then tell them his Knight died but he completed the most important mission of this decade.
They will give him title and show him as an example about not giving up, resilience, etc.
But his execution is as worth as it gets. Answering the radio, wrong timing with Thadius, etc.
Note he gave the gun back to Lucy, clearly not evil, simply had his idealistic ideas and tries his best.
New California Republic (NCR) is one of the biggest and most important factions in Fallout. You meet them in Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas. In 1 they're just a small village, but they become a huge faction in the other games. Keep an eye on them on future episodes.
Maximus makes very bad decisions when he actually tries to make decisions, but he is dead on when he acts by instinct.
I can't be mad at him, though. He is basically a child soldier. He was taken in by the Brotherhood when he was maybe six years old, and he grew up entirely in that environment. He has no moral compass to speak of. He is growing up very quickly in front of our eyes. I like the character.
When All three characters met in episode 2. Maximus identified himself as Knight Titus. So when Lucy asked Maximus if he was the Knight she met in Filly, he had no choice but to continue the lie, because he had no idea if she remembered what all he said.
The bridge crossing scene is a textbook charisma check in Fallout 4

The New California Republic NCR was from Fallout 1 (referenced only) and 2 and then again in Fallout New Vegas. Shady Sands was in the first 2 games. Fallout 3 and 4 were set around Washington D.C. and Boston, respectively, and so references to the NCR are very limited (easter eggs basically)
About the Lore and such things, at this point in the series there are lore inconsistencies but they will be elaborated or explained before the end of the season.
Since Fiends eat people, seeing a Pip-Boy meant the wearer is a Vault Dweller and their meat is untainted by the surface radiation. It’s like wagyu quality beef to them.
Did you recognize the name of the Research and Development facility that Lucy and Max went into? Remember the opening scene of episode 4?
I think the fiend was eyeing Lucy and her pip-boy as someone freshly out of her vault, so to a fiend.. that’d be like having a nice veal steak versus the usual ground beef. 😬
Not always the smartest moves they make on the show. Still very much enjoyed it. Especially Our handsome ghoul. I loved his char so much that I decided to make a song about him ^^
If you do decide to play Fallout again I strongly recommend Fallout: New Vegas. It will help to fill in the lore since it's based in the SW. But Fallout 3 is Washington DC area and 4 is up in Boston.
Maximus is a low intelligence, high strength character. He doesn't make the best decisions.

Maximus has a very low speech skill and has a hard time explaining himself but he does have a very high small guns skill when outside the power armor as seen by him getting 2 crits on the Yao Guai and killing those fiends. Some people think he also has a low Intelligence stat but I'm not so sure on that, he definitely has a high Endurance stat.
The key Thaddeus used is to remove the fusion core.
Lucy read the manual.

Brotherhood didn't drop the bomb. It would be such holy relic, they wouldn't use it I think. Its impossible for them to reproduce it, unlike ammunition. So in my mind Brotherhood wouldn't use a nuke to destroy Shady Shands. Just my two cents.. Brotherhood sent patrol to investigate site and most likely to see if there was some tech that could be salvaged.
12:50 In case you don't know, the Fiends are a gang in Fallout: New Vegas. They're basically the most evil group in the game, consisting of cannibals, rapists, and killers. They even killed everyone in the peaceful Vault 3 to take it as their home base, so good move on Maximus's part!
If you want to play new vegas, not sure if the console versions are fixed, but the best experience would be on PC. And I would strongly advise watching a tutorial on how to get a basic setup for the game with a few essential mods to get it running stable and without issues. Perfect game 👌 once you do
New Vegas runs perfectly on XBox One. Even on XBox 360, it's slow to load and has occasional crashes as expected, but is still good.
On PC, especially Windows 10 or 11, mods for stability and bug fixes are mandatory to be able to play.
Finished the last two episodes last night. Ended pretty solid I thought and could lead into some pretty good story arcs if they end doing what I think they may do. I also enjoyed a lot of the little things they slipped in from the games. Hope they can bring season 2 fairly quickly. There is so much material to work with from these games: the factions, the companions you meet, missions and side quests they could pull from for story arcs, and the brutal violence. There is a lot of lore for sure. Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of it!
The word homage is French and pronounced (o-maj) rappers started pronouncing it (hom-midge) in the 90’s and somehow it stuck to the general populace 😂
It's a bit more complicated than that. Homage is originally pronounced hommidge. The "owe-maj" comes from the doublet word hommage (the original French spelling) and it is this that has influenced homage (one m, English spelling) to have the owe-maj pronunciation. The hommidge pronunciation is also found in the UK for instance. So, it's complicated but it's not an innovation from rappers from the 90s. :)

Maximus is a low int build who put all his points in pistol skill. Recall he head shot the bear too. Lucy is a high int high charisma (not maxed in either case she still fails hard checks).
Since I'm not sure how far out you plan your videos, I am placing 2 recommendations for Spooky October. I am a 50+-Year horror film fanatic. Hands down the scariest film I have ever seen is "Babadook." The acting is superior, and suspense is relentless. Second, we need to show some love for my favorite director, Dario Argento. Most times "Susperia" is the recommendation and rightly so as it is a classic. But I want to turn to his Giallo films. Argento redefined the Giallo with his "Cat-O-Nine Tails." A flurry of Italian Giallo with animals' names would follow. While it is not his first foray into the genre, his masterpiece of Giallo is "Deep Red." Preferable to watch with subtitles.
The raider or "Fiend" saw the Pipboy on Lucy's arm knowing that she was a vault dweller. Prime meat there that is contaminated with radiation. 😉 Betty and Norm at the end. She knows he knows things that he shouldn't. When she looked him in the eye and told him what happened with his mother, and gave him a long stare before she left, I take that she is subtly threatening him to stop pushing it if he knows what's good for him.
Others have mentioned it, Maximus DEFINITELY has the Idiot Savant perk.
Last 3 episodes are great, and such a well done finale.

What? You wanted Lucy to not try to negotiate passage on the bridge? You can't just shoot everyone on sight. Especially if you're Lucy.
This episodes was weird.
Lucy running into Maximus again made the world feel so small, completely contradicting the feel of the fallout games. The 3 main characters are permanently bumping into each other like they are neighbours. And when she is tracking the head..why is she running to Maximus?
She has a device that shows the precise location of the head, so following the track step by step (barely able to move because of radiation poisoning) isn't really efficient. And the head was gone for hours when she arrived under the bridge, she should've taken a totally different path to follow the head.
And Maximus? I totally understand why the character frustrates you so much.
We have liars in the real world. We know how they operate and manipulate. Maximus doesn't fit any patterns.
Each new scene with Maximus feels like he is written completely different.
He KNOWS that the Brotherhood doesn't forgive easily, he almost got executed already.
And still he has the naive thought that bringing the head will make everything fine, while he lied to 3 Brotherhood members, killed one and tried to kill another already.
At the same time, you normally would expect a well crafted story from a pathological liar, or even just a manipulator, but he never wasted a thought to make something up.
He seems to just randomly lie without thinking about it(he has no benefit from lying to Lucy, it would even be better to tell the truth, she could be his fresh start in the world).
So half the time he gests depicted as a child (that deeply loves the Brotherhood) and the other half he is a ruthless and calctulated killer(who uses every chance he gets to betray the brotherhood).
These two are polar opposites.
They aren't opposites. Max is just stupid. That's the common denominator. He does what his childish mind thinks a badass would do, or he just goes with the first dumb thought he has.
i couldn't stand maximus' character, until like the last 2 episodes. he kinda starts to redeem himself.

As for Fallout lore I recommend skipping F3 and Tactics - literally NOTHING of importance happens there. F1 and F2 is good to see old days and NV has a ton of info on where we are now - even though the show doesn't make it clear how the story continued after the game.

I thought Thaddeus and Maximus were both drunk when Maximus sloppily revealed who he was. Then I saw you guys didn't comment on that at all, so I watched the scene again and realized neither was drinking. Maximus just looked and sounded drunk to me(plus how would he even drink without removing the face mask?). I guess that's just how Aaron Moten acts.

Why lie to Lucy? 🤔 Maybe because if they run into someone, even if he hides in his armor, Lucy could naively blurt out "HI! I'm Lucy, and THIS is Knight Maximus!! Let's be friends! 😇 " and he'd be as good as dead?

Yes, Maximus freaked out about Thaddeus but he appears to have been right to. Thaddeus could have hung around and talked some sense into Maximus after he shut his suit down .. He could have helped him calm down and asked more about what had happened instead of telling him he SHOULD have killed him when he had the chance because now he's taking the head for himself. Then off he goes to tattle to the Brotherhood about Maximus being alive, Titus being dead and getting some glory for himself by handing over the head. It sucks that they've both been brainwashed to act like this. It's just not clear in this world what is right and what is wrong and any choice can get you killed.. truth or deception. I know Maximus can't keep this up forever. I just think he wants to help people, please his "parental figures" and be part of something good... he just doesn't know how to get there and he's making stupid spur of the moment decisions without thinking it through. I don't think he's bad. He's just bad at reading a room. So is Lucy. I still like them both.

Bruh, why is everyone in this show sooo stupi- oh, wait, that's right, the showrunner is quoted, "why dont we just make everyone dumb ____ instead?" ..Max tells his Squire, Lucy doesnt trust Max (the only dude who saved her from the Ghoul, or anything) ..but how does Lucy come across Max in the first place? And where did Max's stims go he just saved Lucy with after he was wounded? ..then immediately walk into a trap after almost just dying to a trap? ..the show feels like they werent taking it seriously because the people who made it, havent even played a fallout, let alone video games as a medium, which most their age have bias against, especially now that games crush every other entertainment medium combined these days..
Lucy finds Max because she was going to where the head was. And Max didn't use stims on her, he used Rad-Away, which his armor had an emergency stash of inside. What are you talking about "walking into a trap after almost just dying to a trap?" You're the only one here that shouldn't be taken seriously.
