- Knowing how to test for a complete circuit is extremely useful when it comes to automobile wiring, fuse testing, and fault finding. As cars have progressed through the years, so have the complexity of the electrical systems in them, & whether you're a fan of this or not, there's no escaping the spaghetti junction of wiring that hides under the bonnet and behind the dash of newer cars. Should you need to check or make changes to this system, how can you be sure you're working on the correct wires?? The answer is pretty simple if you get yourself a cheap multimeter and use the correct settings. Here's how.
The car in this video is my 2001 Mazda MX5 - the latest Fast Rust project car. Fun & reliable daily driver is my goal for this iconic sports car. If you want to follow along with my 'Miata Journey’, check out this playlist: • Mazda MX5 / MIATA - ...

Finally, a video about multi meter basics that is actually clear and simple.
thanks
Bro camera is door cam 😂😂
yeah 😂😂
I liked this video just for the Borg reference! The simple, concise and easy explanation was a colossal bonus. Now to fix my dryer!! LOL
Excellent!
Thank you so much for staying on point. I am sure you will get that MX5 sorted out just as quick.
Thanks William 👍🏻
Thank you!!! for this great video. Straight forward to follow on the basics of how to use a Multimeter Voltage Tester. Your information is free and invaluable BIG THANK YOU.
I'm a complete novis with car electrics and cars. However, I built up confidence to install 2 Filters ( Cabin and Air) myself thanks you amazing people on CZcams like your good self.
Having car AirCon problems so plan on testing AirCon components (Fuse, Relay, Resistor, Blower Motor Fan) for Voltage.
Thanks a lot for a perfect tutorial.
It's easy to understand, straight to the point, I instantly managed to solve my problem, every tutorials should be like this one
This was so easy to follow! Absolutely fantastic tutorial! Damn right I am going to subscribe
Just got a 2005 sti and I’ve rebuilt the engine harness essentially.
This video helped me out thank you!
Good, simple explanation. Just want i needed. Thank you!
Fast Rust, much appreciation for your video on this test, earlier today I did the same thing adding to male ends on two ends of about 8ft of wire just so I could verify the correct wire to my vw ignition switch, and wanted to be sure I was using the correct setting on my multimeter for this task, I did the job and verified I had the correct wire, but other video's were using the Ohm's setting...so when I saw your video, ah jackpot...thanks again, and keep them coming.
Thankyou! Easy when you know how 👍🏻
I just want you to know, I was booing that joke at the start of the video.
😂😂😂😂 I was like I’m going to like the video cause he said that 😂
A most excellent demonstration of a conFUSING procedure. Thanks.
Ha ha ha. I see what you did there! Cheers 👍🏻
The information helped me figure out cherry switches and how to check if their working or not so I do appreciate the help.
Very helpful information, cheers all the way from Perth Australia
you was very CLEAR very understanding
THANKS
Hey… First time viewer here. ‘Resistance is futile.’ That’s worth a sub. right there! 👍
BEST EXPLANATION SO FAR THANK YOU
Wow, I went through 4 other videos just find a simple explanation of continuity like this. 👍
Thankyou, if you haven't already please give the video a 👍🏻. Will help it get further up in the search.
Me too.
Perfect explanation. Plus it helped that he has the same multimeter that I bought!
"Resistance is futile" 🤦🤦🤦
Well, Picard and 7of9 resisted!
Thanks for the video, simple to follow and it solved my problem!
Great teacher made it simple and easy
Nice video man, thanks for posting
Best and easiest video to understand, thank you
Thank you... I've recently started getting my feet wet with Arduino and electronics.
Salvaged stuff from old electronics and wasn't quite sure how to check for continuity on a couple of switches (with 4 wires) that I want to use on a project. This was helpful.
Excellent presentation! A lot of painstaking work went into this production! I sincerely appreciate it! I learned...now if I could just REMEMBER! Ha! Ha!
Thankyou for appreciating the effort that goes into these videos 👍🏻 Glad it helped you out (if you remembered)
Fantastic video mate very helpfull thanks a lot 👍👍👍
Lovely little mx5!
very clear tutorial. helped me a lot. thankyou 👍
Thanks pal glad to hear it
Excellent- clear, easy to follow. Thank you.
Thank you. Superb. My GE multimeter has a manual, with only a few pages of useless instructions. It doesn't even mention the word continuity.
You are right, you can’t put it off forever, I’ve been putting it of for 25 years now I have to do it! Thanx for the vid and tips
Ha ha! Happens to us all eventually! No problem thankyou 👍🏻
Thanks James for the video! I needed this to test my ABS sensor wiring. Electricty is a bit of a black art which can scare people off. Love the Trek joke.
Thank you for talking to us in an easy to understand manner without treating us like morons
👍🏻 Everyone's got to start somewhere
just what I was looking for, thanks I now subscribe
Thanks for the sub 👍
Good video mate, thanks!
Very useful. Thank you.
Very helpful, thanks.
Saw MX5, instantly subscribed
Thanks Darcy. There's plenty more mx5 stuff to check out 👍🏻
Resistance was futile . Absolute golden words to be remembered for ever
THANK YOU, you're a lifesaver
👍🏻
Cheers for the information
good instructor.
Super easy thanks ..
Nice1..Fast & thank u
Thank you brother! 🙏
I instantly liked your video after the Trek joke!
I really appreciate this
Thankyou 👍🏻
excellent thank you .
Thank you!!!
Thank you!
Great!Thanks!
Ha, love the borg joke! Lol
Good Video Bro
Thanks dude
Very useful, better than the instructions that came with my multi meter
Good to hear! Cheers.
Thanks this helped alot. I'm a plumber, not an electrician
I have a 1988 Nissan Sentra with a 1.6 L engine and it has the same type of grey connector that you were holding in your test. Do you know what it’s called and do you know how to release the terminal from the connector?
I’ve been watching a lot of videos for techniques on releasing terminals and none of them cover this type of connector.
If you don’t know could you direct me to a video or a site that might have information on this type of connector and terminal?
I have a wire that needs replacing and I love this car. It’s a Time Machine with a single speaker a.m. radio. I don’t wanna change a thing. I just want to keep it running for as long as I can.
Thank you so much for a great video that not only showed me how to use the same multi- meter that I have but by some miracle the same type of connector that I’m working with.
Thank you so much again for a great video and for your time!
Thank you friend, from Texas.
PS, you are a laugh riot.
I subscribed when I heard your ‘joke’. Great vid!
Glad to hear someone enjoyed it 😅 Thanks for the sub!!
@@FastRust A fish in a reservoir ran into a wall - Dam! He said. I’ll stop now.
👍🏻👍🏻 Finally! Someone on my level 🤣
The intro joke just got you a 👍
Electrical circuit I’m gonna buy one
What would happen if you're looking for the break would you have to do all of them to prove they have no break?
Thanks!!
No problemo thanks 👍🏻
great pun!
Perfect
You made yourself sound like a right current with that resistence joke.. sorry couldn't help myself 😂
Behave!! 🤣
Will.i.get different results by using the continuity symbol instead of ohms
Like 👍your video....
Can you help please, in my dellorto 40 dhla my fuel don't enter in engine it comes back
subbed for "resistance is futile"
Ha ha ha. Wonders never cease!
Mine has 16 is it fine like when I touch the negative and positive
Tussen Tak
Why do you have to disconnect when checking resistance or ohms
That first joke was shocking
Great. I need to fix a broken laptop and have to check if the charger wires are ok and other circuits/ components. No car for me :D
No car, no problem. Glad it helped
LOL I'm looking for electronic trouble shooting help and I started here because he showed my favorite Harbor freight DMM $3.99. I got a fluke too but i have the harbor freight ones because when you go swimming in the toilet or fall in the solvent tank its only 4 bucks and I give them away to friends that are sure that smoke from wires is the soul of the wire or part getting away
I got it.
Liked the joke at the beginning, however, I would have said: "Resistance is fusile" =D
👍
What if you get a reading of 009
What does the number mean otherwise? Like if I get 500.
00:25
Ohm my gosh!
Thanks
Very good
Except for the fingernails on a chalkboard background music,
Excellent
:25 resistance is futile rings in my head because it’s right
are you talking to your home security camera? 😂
No christ, my equipment's not that modern
0:25, definitely a dad joke 😉
Mine just says OL (overload) switching it to that. Thats without even touching anything.
I liked the joke and thank you for the video
What if instead of an L it just said 0.00? It's that ok?
0L means open loop, or non continuous, something is broken.
Thank you. Thank you. I’m a materials engineer and I’m ashamed I either forgot or never cared to understand principles of electricity. Seriously. Thank you
You're talking to the guy that sometimes has to re watch hus own videos to remember how to do stuff 🤣 Thanks!
@@FastRust would you happen to know something about alternators on cars? (I'm pretty sure you do lol) Because I have a really quick question and nobody can give me a sensible question. Heck I would pay you for your time to answer and explain it to me lol
Go for it
Super helpful video thank you so much finally involve me your bid tutorial that I can understand and actually worked with by the way i paused you at 6:22 and you look faded as f***😅
yooo! this guy is using a door camera for this video 😅😅🤣
Resistance is not futile as long as Miatas exist.
I have two multimeters and both show 1 no matter what I test them on, even touching each other.. what's wrong here?? Its driving me mad...
is this guy using a ring outdoor camera
What about if I get only 0.00?
Armageddon
@@FastRust the world will end. I understood. Russia will take all the world
0.00 means you have continuity.. this is either very good or very bad!
Resistence was futile?! Psssshhh! Unreal!
I came with more questions then answers. Fml
That's usually how this works..
Hahaha resistance is futile 😂🤪❤️
Ha ha ha. Always!
Madara Uchiha say resistance is futile
No bip mode with that cheap multimeter??? That's how I test the continuity with ...
Nope not on this unit sadly
